  • the hang tab may, in one embodiment work as a squeegee eliminating the need for a separate item in the package which provides a more sustainable design. By working as a squeegee, it meant that may function as a tool to apply a film uniformly on a surface. In such embodiments, the hang tab is used to squeeze the film into place by removing air bubbles while pushing product onto device surface.
  • Such hang tab squeegee application may prevent fingerprints from getting on the film, since the user would not be required to use her hand or fingers to provide application pressure to the film.
  • the lamination force provided by the hang tab when used in such a squeegee function can be influenced by the amount of flex in the hang tab material.
  • the hang tab material should have enough rigidity to provide a spring tension adequate to apply a firm, even pressure to the surface to which the film is to be applied.
  • the particular flex of the material chosen for the hang tab will depend in part on the thickness and type of material selected. For instance, a construction of die cut polystyrene sheet of approximately 1 mm thickness may be appropriate for a hang tab according to the present description. Variations from this performance are myriad, as the combination of materials chosen and thickness vary. For instance, for thinner designs, harder materials may be used and thicker designs might call for more flexible materials.
  • Additional conformability of the hang tab to the surface on which a film is applied may be accomplished by wrapping the hang tab with a cloth or soft rag around the film application surface. This method can also be used to clean the surface to which the film is to be applied, to clean the film, or both.
  • the hang tab is reusable and may work with multiple size films.
  • the hang tab may be designed such that it may be used as an edge guide for trimming a product to size, or may itself be used as a trimming device for trimming a film. That is, in the event that a film does not conform precisely to the surface dimensions to which it is applied, or in the event that the film is not squarely applied, the edge of the hang tab may be used to guide the cutting of the film to fit the precise dimensions of the surface to which it is applied. Such trimming may be by a separate trimming device such as scissors, a knife, a box cutter, or the like. In another embodiment, there may exist a sharp edge of the hang tab itself that is configured to allow a user to trim a film to fit the dimensions of a surface to which the film is applied.
  • the tool can be multi-colored to make aesthetically pleasing, or "cool" looking. Further, the color may be chosen such that a given color corresponds to a given size of adhesive film included in the packaging, thus facilitating the selection of the appropriate package by a customer. Further, a manufacturer of a display surface (such as a mobile device) may be assigned a color for all adhesive films packaged to be used in the manufacturer's products, allowing a customer to easily identify the appropriate film for the customer's desired application.
  • the hang tab can also be imprinted with logos, advertisements, instructions, rebates, or charitable donation information. This item can be made by any of a variety of methods for making such parts including molding, punching, steel rule die, laser cutting, or other method. Such methods may, in some embodiments, lend themselves to inexpensive, high volume manufacturing operations. Such manufacturing methods allow for flexibility for various shapes like curved edges to accommodate unique device shapes.
