PMセンサ2の電極8、10へのPM堆積量が更に増加し、PMの堆積が飽和状態となると、PMセンサ2はもはやそれ以上の出力変化を示さず、PM量を正しく計測することができない状態となる。従って、制御装置は、電極8、10間に堆積するPMを飽和状態となる前に除去するべく、PMリセットを実行する。具体的に、制御装置は、ヒータ16に所定の直流電流を流し、素子部6を800℃程度に昇温させる。これにより堆積したPMは燃焼し、除去される。
(イ)電極8、10間が少なくとも1箇所もしくは数箇所以上でPMを介して導通された状態となるPMの量
(ロ)PMリセット直後であっても、センサ出力がPM堆積量の変化に応じた変化を示す程度の、最低限のPM量
以下、PMリセットの基準時間の設定手法について説明する。
図5は、この発明の実施の形態1における内燃機関の運転状態と、基準時間との関係を説明するための図である。図5に示されるように、例えば、ガス流量が多い場合、空燃比A/Fが大きい場合、PMセンサ2が設置された排気通路に流通する酸素量も増加する。従って、PMリセット時のPM燃焼は促進させる。従って、ガス流量が多い場合や空燃比A/Fが大きい場合ほど、基準時間は短く設定される。また、ガス温度が高い場合にもPM燃焼は促進される。従って、ガス温度が高い場合ほど、基準時間は短く設定される。
図7は、この発明において制御装置が実行する制御のルーチンについて説明するためのフローチャートである。図7のルーチンは、PM除去処理を実行する指令が出された場合に実行されるルーチンである。
実施の形態1では、PMリセット終了の判断するパラメータとして、運転状態に応じて設定された基準時間Tと、PMセンサ2の出力を用いる場合について説明した。これに対し、実施の形態2では、PMリセット終了の判断をPMセンサ2の発熱量を用いて行う。
実施の形態3のシステムは実施の形態1のシステムと同様の構成を有している。実施の形態3では、PMリセット終了の判断のためセンサ出力のみを用いる。具体的に、実施の形態3のシステムは、PMリセットが開始すると、ヒータ16にパルス電圧が供給される。即ちヒータ16への通電は、ごく短い一定時間ごとにON/OFFに切り替えられる。この短時間の通電ON/OFFの繰り返しにより、電極8、10付近が局所的に加熱される。

Claims (10)
- 間隔を開けて配置された一対の電極を備え、気体中の微粒子量を計測するための微粒子センサと、
前記微粒子センサに付着した微粒子を、燃焼させて除去処理するための除去手段と、
前記微粒子センサに付着した微粒子量が、前記一対の電極を少なくとも1箇所以上において導通させる最低限の微粒子の残留量として設定された基準微粒子量よりも、少なくなったか否かを判別する微粒子量判別手段と、
前記微粒子量が、前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったと判別された場合に、前記除去手段による該微粒子の除去処理を終了する除去処理制御手段と、
を備えることを特徴とする内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子量を前記基準微粒子量にまで減少させ得る前記除去処理の時間を、内燃機関の運転状態に応じて、基準時間として設定する基準時間設定手段を、更に備え、
前記微粒子量判別手段は、前記除去処理が前記基準時間の間、実行されたか否かに基づいて、前記微粒子が前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったか否かを判別することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子センサの出力を検出するセンサ出力検出手段を、更に備え、
前記微粒子量判別手段は、前記微粒子センサの出力が、前記基準微粒子量に対応する微粒センサの出力として設定される基準出力よりも、低くなったか否かに基づいて、前記微粒子が前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったか否かを判別することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子センサの素子部の温度を検出する温度検出手段と、
前記基準出力を、前記温度検出手段により検出された温度に応じて設定する基準出力設定手段と、
を、更に備えることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子センサの温度を検出する温度検出手段と、
前記温度検出手段により検出された温度に応じて、前記微粒子センサの発熱量を算出する発熱量算出手段と、を更に備え、
前記微粒子量判別手段は、
前記発熱量が、基準発熱量より高いか否かに基づいて、前記微粒子が前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったことを判別することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子センサの温度を検出する温度検出手段と、
前記温度検出手段により検出された温度に応じて、前記微粒子センサの発熱量を算出する発熱量算出手段と、
前記除去処理を開始してからの発熱量の積算量を検出する積算発熱量検出手段と、を更に備え、
前記微粒子量判別手段は、
前記積算量が、基準積算発熱量より大きいか否かに基づいて、前記微粒子が前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったことを判別することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記微粒子センサの温度を検出する温度検出手段と、
前記微粒子センサの温度変化を算出する温度変化算出手段と、を更に備え、
前記微粒子量判別手段は、
前記温度変化が、基準温度変化量よりも小さくなったか否かに基づいて、前記微粒子が前記基準微粒子量より少なくなったことを判別することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記温度検出手段は、前記微粒子センサの前記一対の電極近傍に設置された温度センサであることを特徴とする請求項4から7のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。
- 前記除去手段は、前記一対の電極近傍に設置されたヒータであって、
前記除去処理制御手段は、前記ヒータに一定のパルス幅で電力を供給することにより前記一対の電極を加熱して、前記微粒子を燃焼させることを特徴とする請求項1から8のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。 - 前記除去手段は、前記一対の電極近傍に設置されたヒータであって、
前記一対の電極は、電極が他の部分と比較して過密に配置された過密領域を備え、
前記ヒータは、発熱の中心が、前記一対の電極の前記過密領域を加熱するように構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1から9のいずれか1項に記載の内燃機関の制御装置。
