It is remembered. Basically, these histogram peaks are important. For images taken by other scanners, conversion of color and brightness so that the histogram peaks are at the same positions as those stored in the table 500. Processing will be added.
- the standard image data shown in FIG. 5 is merely an example, and it is necessary to store information according to a correction method added to a biological image captured by a new scanner (other than the standard scanner). For example, when comparing a biometric image and a standard image, it is possible to use an average value of pixel values of each color element instead of a histogram, or to use an intermediate value. A value or an intermediate value needs to be registered in the table 500 in advance.

- the RAM 304 also includes a biological tissue determination module 402 that determines the type of biological tissue present in the biological image read by the scanner 307 and its image area.
- types of biological tissues present in a biological image include gland ducts (cell nucleus group), stroma (cytoplasm), lymphocytes, blood cells, and other goblet cells (special cells). It is determined by using an image processing technique such as pattern matching where and in what form and size the acquired biological tissue exists in the acquired biological image.
- the tissue determination technique and region extraction technique used here are disclosed in literature such as gland ducts (Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2009-229203), lymphocytes (Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2009-168725, Japanese Patent No. 3649328, Japanese Patent No. 3534009). Therefore, detailed description is omitted here.

Specifically, for example, a pathologist determines which lesion is included by processing such as hematoxylin signal analysis, image normalization, nuclear detection, texture analysis, color analysis, lesion candidate extraction, and lesion identification. To present.
- the RAM 304 further includes a warning module 406.
- the warning module 406 displays that the image correction has been performed by the biological image correction module 403.
- the warning module 406 displays a warning indicating that calibration is necessary when the scanner information acquired from the connected scanner 307 is not registered in the correction information database 325.
- the image comparison module 407 compares a biological image acquired by photographing a sample biological sample with the scanner 307 and a standard image (corresponding to the sample biological sample) prepared in advance in the standard image database 315. To do.
- a correction information generation module 408 stored in the RAM 304 generates correction information according to the comparison result in the image comparison module 407. That is, in order to approximate the acquired biological image to the standard image, it is determined what correction process is applied to reduce the difference derived by the comparison process, and an effective correction process is derived.
- the image comparison module 407 can obtain a difference by comparing the histogram, intermediate value, or average value of HSV color elements, RGB color elements, or CMYK color elements of those images.
- the correction information generation module 408 performs correction to eliminate the difference.
- the image comparison module 407 also normalizes the image by gamma correction, separates the white area and the colored area by the discrimination analysis of saturation and lightness, separates the colored area into the red area and the blue area by the hue discrimination analysis, You may compare the average of RGB about each of a white, red, and blue area
- the image comparison module 407 may compare, for example, the degree of blur between the biological image and the standard image, and the correction information generation module 408 may perform correction to eliminate the difference.
- the image comparison module 407 first performs DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) on the RGB components of the biological image and the standard image, and removes the DC component from the DCT result (sets it to 0).
- DCT Discrete Cosine Transform
- the total power of only the AC component is calculated, and in DCT (AC only), the total power of the low frequency where X and Y are below a certain ratio (eg, 2% or less) is calculated. Calculate the ratio of power to total AC power. This ratio is considered as the amount of blur, and this ratio is derived and compared for each image.
- correction information obtained as described above is stored in the correction information database 325.
- a table 600 shown in FIG. 6 shows an example of correction information 603 stored in association with scanner identification information 601. Similar to the standard image data shown in FIG. 5, the correction information 603 is also registered for each type of biological tissue 602.
- correction information 603 two types of correction information 603, RGB correction value and HSV correction value, are prepared, and a color space that can be easily corrected can be selected according to the type of scanner.
- the correction value a value indicated by a value from ⁇ 1 to +1 is taken in the HSV color space, and a value shown from ⁇ 255 to +255 is taken in the RGB space.
- step S701 identification information of the connected scanner 307 and a biological image read by the scanner 307 are acquired.
- the identification information of the scanner 307 can be extracted from the header of the biological image data read by the scanner 307.
- step S703 it is determined whether or not the extracted identification information is registered in the standard image database 315 or the correction information database 325. If it is not registered in any of these, it can be seen that the connected scanner 307 is not a standard scanner used for generating a standard image, and is not a scanner that has already generated correction information. In this case, the process proceeds to step S705 to display a warning. Specifically, a message indicating that it is necessary to read the sample biological specimen and perform calibration is displayed, and the process proceeds to the correction information generation process.
- step 703 If it is determined in step 703 that the identification information is registered in the database, the process proceeds to step S709, and a biological tissue region is extracted from the acquired biological image.
- step S711 correction information is acquired from the correction information database 325 using the scanner identification information and the extracted biological tissue type.
- the acquired biological image is corrected using the acquired correction information.
- the entire biological image may be corrected by a correction method corresponding to the type of biological tissue.
- image correction may be performed by a different correction method for each image region including each biological tissue. In any case, by performing correction according to the type of biological tissue included in the biological image, it becomes easy to identify and analyze the biological tissue, thereby improving the accuracy of pathological diagnosis.
- step S713 the process proceeds to step S717 to determine whether there is an unprocessed biological tissue. If the living body image that has not been subjected to the correction process is included in the living body image, the process proceeds to steps S711 and S713, and image correction is performed on the next living tissue.
- step S715 the corrected biological image is displayed on the display device 310, and the processing ends.
- FIG. 8 is a flowchart showing detailed contents of the correction information generation process performed after step S705.
- step S705 since it is determined that the connected scanner 307 is not a standard scanner, in FIG. 8, first, in step S801, an image of a sample biological sample is read.
- the sample specimen is prepared in advance for generating correction information, and is preferably the same as the specimen imaged by the standard scanner when the standard image is generated. Different sample samples may be prepared for each type of biological tissue, or a plurality of biological tissues may be included in one sample sample.
- step S803 standard image information corresponding to the sample specimen image is read from the standard image database 315.
- step S805 by executing the image comparison module 407, the read image information and the standard image information are compared with a predetermined index (for example, brightness, saturation, hue, etc.) as described above. Save the difference.
- step S807 it is determined whether the difference obtained by comparing the predetermined indexes of these images matches or is within a certain range. If the difference is within a certain range, the process proceeds to step S813, where it is determined whether or not all the prepared sample samples have been processed. If there is a next sample sample, the process returns to step S801.
- a predetermined index for example, brightness, saturation, hue, etc.
- step S807 if the difference between the biological image generated by imaging the sample specimen and the standard image is not within a certain range, the process proceeds to step S809, and the image information of the biological image is corrected in a direction in which the difference becomes smaller.
- step S811 correction information is temporarily stored. The correction process is repeated until the difference between the corrected image and the standard image falls within a certain range, and if it falls within the certain range, the process proceeds to step S813. For example, when comparing image information expressed in the HSV color space, first, only the brightness V of the image is matched with the standard image, the entire image is compared, and if the correction is not sufficient, the saturation S is standard. Match the image.
- step S805 the biological tissue may be extracted for each correction process, and the extracted images of the region of the biological tissue may be compared.
- step S813 If it is determined in step S813 that the correction information generation processing for all sample specimen images has been completed, the process proceeds to step S815 to store the correction information in the correction information database 325 in association with the type of biological tissue.
- the correction information database 325 is provided in the image processing apparatus.
- the correction information is stored in advance in the scanner 307, and the biological image and the correction information are transmitted to the image processing apparatus 300.
- the scanner 307 includes a storage unit (for example, a ROM) that stores correction information representing correction processing for each type of biological tissue that can be included in a biological image.
- the scanner 307 further includes a transmission unit that transmits a biological image generated by imaging a biological sample and correction information read from the storage unit to the image processing apparatus 300.

- a storage unit that stores a biological image representing a sample biological sample and a transmission unit that transmits the biological image read from the storage unit to the image processing apparatus 300 may be provided.
- FIG. 9 illustrates a method for correcting an image region in which a gland duct is included as a biological tissue.
- the biological image 902 captured by the new scanner is darker and has lower saturation. This is clear if the peak values of the histograms in the HSV color space are compared.
- correction is performed to match them.
- correction information for correcting V brightly by increasing V and correcting brightly by increasing S is generated for the captured ductal image area. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, correction information is registered so that correction is performed so that S is +0.2 and V is +0.3 in the duct image region.
- FIG. 10 illustrates a method for correcting an image region in which lymphocytes are included as a biological tissue.
- the biological image 1002 captured by the new scanner is darker and has lower saturation. This is clear when the peak values of the histograms in the HSV color space are compared.
- the peak values of S and V are different, correction is performed to match them.
- correction information is generated for correcting an imaged lymphocyte image region by increasing V to make it brighter and increasing S by making it brighter. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, in the lymphocyte image region, correction information is registered so that correction is performed so that S is +0.1 and V is +0.1.
- FIG. 11 illustrates a method for correcting an image region that includes stroma as a living tissue.
- the living body image 1102 captured by the new scanner is darker, less saturated, and less bluish. This is clear if the peak values of the histograms in the HSV color space are compared.
