Abstract
燃料噴射を圧縮上死点より早い時期に行い、燃料の予混合化が促進した後に着火燃焼させるようにしたディーゼルエンジン1の排気浄化装置であって、燃料Fを素にプラズマ放電によりH2を含んだ改質ガスを生成し且つ改質ガスを吸気マニホールド6を介してシリンダ7内へ供給するプラズマ燃料改質器17を備えている。
Description
本発明は排気浄化装置に関するものである。
近年、自動車用ディーゼルエンジンでは、通常であれば圧縮上死点近辺で行われるべき燃料噴射を圧縮上死点より早い時期に行い、シリンダ内への燃料の先行投入により燃料の予混合化が促進した後に着火燃焼させて、黒煙の発生を抑制する予混合燃焼の採用が検討されている。
自動車用ディーゼルエンジンに予混合燃焼を採用する場合、早期着火を抑えるために、エンジン排気経路から排気の一部をエンジン吸気経路へ還流させ、その排気でシリンダ内における燃料の燃焼を抑制させてシリンダ内の温度を下げる排気再循環(EGR:Exhaust Gas Recirculation)を併用する必要があるが、シリンダ内への排気投入量が多くなるとO2が不足して燃焼が不安定になり、失火が発生しやすく、未燃のHC及びCOが残る。
特に、燃料噴射量が増えるエンジン中負荷領域や高負荷領域では、着火までの予混合気量が一気に燃焼するため、急激な燃焼が起きやすくなるが、先述のようにシリンダ内への排気投入量(EGR量)を増やすと失火の原因となってしまうので、現時点では、低負荷時だけに予混合燃焼を採用する方向で研究開発が進められている。
そこで、希薄状態でも燃焼性に優れたH2をシリンダ内に供給してO2の不足に起因した失火を防ぎ、未燃のHC及びCOを減らすことが考えられる。また、ディーゼルエンジンの燃料(軽油)を触媒により改質する燃料改質器を用いてH2を含んだ改質ガスを生成し、該改質ガスを吸気管からシリンダ内に供給するものは既に提案されている(例えば、特許文献1参照)。
触媒により燃料を改質してH2を含んだガスを生成する燃料改質器では、触媒の雰囲気温度を600℃程度に保っておかないと反応が起きない。このため、ディーゼルエンジンの燃料の一部を触媒の昇温に流用しており、燃料消費上、不利である。
更に、触媒の雰囲気温度が上記の値に達するまではH2を含んだ改質ガスを得ることができず、エンジン始動後に、直ちに安定した燃焼状態で予混合燃焼を実行できない。
本発明は上述した実情に鑑みてなしたもので、燃料消費率がよく、エンジン始動後に、直ちに安定した状態で予混合燃焼を実行できる排気浄化装置を提供することを目的としている。
上記目的を達成するため、本発明は、少なくとも軽負荷時に燃料噴射を圧縮上死点より早い時期に行い、前記燃料の予混合化が促進した後に着火燃焼させるとともに、エンジン排気経路から排気の一部をエンジン吸気経路へ還流させるようにしたディーゼルエンジンの排気浄化装置であって、エンジン燃料を素にプラズマ放電によりH2を含んだ改質ガスを生成し且つ該改質ガスをエンジン吸気経路へ供給するプラズマ燃料改質器を備えている。
前記エンジン排気経路に組み込んだNOx吸蔵還元触媒と、該NOx吸蔵還元触媒の上流側に設けたノズルとを備え、
前記プラズマ燃料改質器において、エンジン燃料を素にプラズマ放電によりH2、COを含んだ改質ガスを生成し且つ該改質ガスを前記ノズル及びエンジン吸気経路へ供給するよう構成してもよい。

本発明の排気浄化装置によれば、下記のような優れた作用効果を奏し得る。
(1)改質ガスの生成手段としてのプラズマ燃料改質器は、触媒により燃料を改質する燃料改質器のようにエンジン燃料を触媒の昇温に流用しないので、燃料消費率が向上する。
(2)プラズマ放電を生じさせれば、H2を含んだ改質ガスが得られるので、エンジン始動後に、直ちに安定した燃焼状態で予混合燃焼を実行できる。
(3)H2、COを含んだ改質ガスを、ノズルからNOx吸蔵還元触媒の排気流通方向上流側に供給すると前記NOx吸蔵還元触媒からNOxを環元してN2、CO2、H2Oを離脱させることができる。
以下、本発明の実施の形態を図面に基づき説明する。
図1、図2は本発明の排気浄化装置の一例を示すもので、1は、ターボチャージャ2を装備したディーゼルエンジンである。エアクリーナ3から導かれた吸気Aは、吸気管4を経てターボチャージャ2のコンプレッサ2aへと送られる。このコンプレッサ2aで加圧された吸気Aは、インタクーラ5で冷却された後、吸気マニホールド6へと導かれ、ディーゼルエンジン1の各シリンダ7に分配されるようになっている。
ディーゼルエンジン1の各シリンダ7から排出された排気Gは、排気マニホールド8を介しターボチャージャ2のタービン2bへと送られ、該タービン2bを駆動した排気Gは、排気管9及び後処理装置10を経て車外へ排出されるようになっている。
後処理装置10は、一つのケーシング内に、排気G流通方向上流側から下流側に向けて順に、NOx吸蔵還元触媒11、酸化触媒12、パティキュレートフィルタ13を組み込んだものである。
NOx吸蔵還元触媒11は、触媒Ptによって排気Gが含有しているNOxとO2とからNO2を生成し、該NO2が吸着剤であるBa等に反応した硝酸塩BaNO2を保持する。
酸化触媒12は、HCを酸化させて、その反応熱によって排気Gを昇温する。そして、パティキュレートフィルタ13に捕集された煤は、排気Gの熱によって燃焼処理される。
排気マニホールド8と吸気管4のインタクーラ5下流側の個所との間には、シリンダ7に排気Gを還流させるためのEGR管路14が設けてある。EGR管路14には、排気G流通方向上流側から下流側に向けて順に、EGRクーラ15、EGRバルブ16が組み込まれている。
本発明の特徴は、燃料(軽油)Fを素にプラズマ放電によりH2を含んだ改質ガスRを生成するプラズマ燃料改質器17を備えた点にある。
プラズマ燃料改質器17は、中心部に一方の面から他方の面に向けて高電圧プラグ18が螺着され且つ外部から高電圧プラグ18の電極19の周囲へ燃料F及び吸気Aを送給するための流路20が形成してある端板21と、前記電極19を周方向に取り囲む開口22を有し且つ端板21の他方の面に一方の面が接する第1の環状部材23と、該第1の環状部材23の他方の面に一方の面が接する第2の環状部材24と、該第2の環状部材24の他方の面に一方の面が接する第3の環状部材25と、該第3の環状部材25の他方の面に一方の面が接するフランジ26と、該フランジ26に一端が溶接固着された短尺管27と、該短尺管27の他端に溶接固着したフランジ28とを有しており、前記端板21に対してフランジ26を締結するボルト29によって、端板21、第1、第2、第3の環状部材23,24,25及びフランジ26を一体的に拘束している。
流路20には、例えば、コモンレール式燃料噴射装置の構成要素である燃料供給ポンプとコモンレールとの間の燃料管路から調圧弁を介して分流させた燃料Fと、ターボチャージャ2のコンプレッサ2a出側から抽出した吸気Aとが、ミキサで混合されたうえ、送り込まれるようになっている。流路20へ燃料を送り込む手段としては、専用のポンプを設けてもよく、エアブレーキ装置から得た空気を調圧弁を介して分流させて流路20へ送り込むようにしてもよい。
第2の環状部材24の内周部は、筒状の第3の環状部材25の内周面から第1の環状部材23の開口22へ滑らかに連なる凹湾曲面状に形成されている。第1の環状部材23の材料には、セラミックを用いている。第2の環状部材24の材料に金属を用いる場合は、第3の環状部材25の材料にセラミックを用いる。また、第3の環状部材25の材料に金属を用いる場合は、第2の環状部材24の材料にセラミックを用いる。高電圧プラグ18に対して電源30により高電圧を印加すると、電極19と金属製の第2の環状部材24との間、または電極19と金属製の第3の環状部材25との間にプラズマ放電が生じることになる。そこを量論比以上の燃料Fと空気(吸気A)が流れることにより、H2、CO等が発生する。
プラズマ燃料改質器17のフランジ28には、ディーゼルエンジン1の吸気マニホールド6内部へ連通するガス管路31が、フランジ32を介して接続されている。後処理装置10内部のNOx吸蔵還元触媒11の排気G流通方向上流側には、改質ガス添加用のノズル33が設けられており、該ノズル33には、前記ガス管路31より分岐したガス管路34が接続されている。そして、ガス管路31,34には、それぞれ添加弁35,36が組み込んである。
ディーゼルエンジン1において、燃料噴射を圧縮上死点より早い時期に行うことにより予混合燃焼を実行する際には、早期着火を抑えるために、排気マニホールド8から排気Gの一部をEGR管路14により吸気マニホールド6へ還流させ、その排気Gでシリンダ7内における燃料の燃焼を抑制させてシリンダ7内の温度を下げる排気再循環を併用する。
添加弁35を開くとともに、プラズマ燃料改質器17に燃料Fと吸気Aを混合して送り込んで、電源30によって高電圧プラグ18に高電圧を印加すると、プラズマ燃料改質器17内部にプラズマ放電が生じ、燃料Fが改質されてH2を含んだ改質ガスRが生成され、該改質ガスRは、ガス管路31、吸気マニホールド6を経てシリンダ7内へ供給される。
H2は希薄状態でも燃焼性に優れているので、シリンダ7内においては燃焼が安定し、O2の不足に起因した失火が防がれ、未燃のHC及びCOが減る。従って、エンジン中負荷領域や高負荷領域でシリンダ7内への排気投入量を増やしても失火がなく、燃焼が安定し、燃焼時間が短くなり、燃料消費率の向上が期待できる。改質ガスRには、H2の他にHC及びCOが含まれているが、これらHC及びCOは、H2とともに燃焼する。
このH2の供給量は、ディーゼルエンジン1の運転状態に応じて調整する。
触媒により燃料を改質する燃料改質器では、燃料Fを触媒の昇温に流用していたため、燃料消費上、不利であったが、当該燃料改質器に比べるとプラズマ燃料改質器17の電力消費は数百ワットであると見込まれるのでエネルギー消費量が少ない。しかも、高電圧プラグ18に高電圧を印加すればH2を含んだ改質ガスRが得られるで、エンジン始動後に、直ちに安定した燃焼状態で予混合燃焼を実行できる。
NOx吸蔵還元触媒11に保持されているNOxを取り除く際には、添加弁36を開き、プラズマ燃料改質器17で生成された改質ガスRを、ノズル33からNOx吸蔵還元触媒11の排気G流通方向上流側に供給すると、改質ガスRに含まれているH2及びCOによってNOxを環元してN2、CO2、H2Oが離脱し、BaNO2がBaに戻ることになる。
この改質ガスRは、NOx吸蔵還元触媒11の状態に応じてリッチスパイクとして供給する。
このプラズマ燃料改質器17の下流側に、H2の発生効率を向上させるための改質触媒を設けてもよい。
なお、本発明の排気浄化装置は、上述した実施の形態のみに限定されるものではなく、本発明の要旨を逸脱しない範囲において変更を加え得ることは勿論である。

Claims (2)
- 少なくとも軽負荷時に燃料噴射を圧縮上死点より早い時期に行い、前記燃料の予混合化が促進した後に着火燃焼させるとともに、エンジン排気経路から排気の一部をエンジン吸気経路へ還流させるようにしたディーゼルエンジンの排気浄化装置であって、
エンジン燃料を素にプラズマ放電によりH2を含んだ改質ガスを生成し且つ該改質ガスをエンジン吸気経路へ供給するプラズマ燃料改質器を備えた排気浄化装置。 - 前記エンジン排気経路に組み込んだNOx吸蔵還元触媒と、該NOx吸蔵還元触媒の上流側に設けたノズルとを備え、
前記プラズマ燃料改質器において、エンジン燃料を素にプラズマ放電によりH2、COを含んだ改質ガスを生成し且つ該改質ガスを前記ノズル及びエンジン吸気経路へ供給するよう構成した請求項1記載の排気浄化装置。
