Abstract

Description
본 발명은 멤스(MEMS) 마이크로폰 패키지에 관한 것으로, 더욱 상세하게는 패키징 과정에서 배기 경로(vent path)를 추가하여 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압의 평형(Air equilibrium)을 개선시킴으로써 음향특성이 향상된 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지 및 패키징 방법에 관한 것이다.
1980년대 들어 R.Hijab 등에 의해 MEMS 마이크로폰에 대한 연구가 보고된 후 MEMS(micro electro machining systems) 공정기술을 이용한 다양한 종류의 마이크로폰 구조 및 제조기술에 대한 연구가 이루어져 왔다. MEMS(micro electro machining systems) 공정은 반도체 공정기술을 바탕으로 안정적이며 조절 가능한 물성을 갖는 박막을 제조할 수 있고 일괄공정이 가능하여 소형이면서도 저렴한 고성능 마이크로폰 칩을 구현할 수 있다. 또한 기존의 일렉트릿 콘덴서 마이크로폰에 비하여 높은 온도에서 조립 및 동작이 가능하므로 기존에 사용하고 있는 표면실장(SMD)장비 및 기술을 이용하여 MEMS 마이크로폰 패키지를 조립할 수 있는 장점이 있다.
통상 MEMS 마이크로폰 패키지는 도 1 및 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이, 실리콘 기판을 이용하여 백플레이트 및 진동막 구조를 갖는 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)을 구현한 후 PCB 기판(20)에 접착제(22)로 접착하여 조립하였다.
도 1 및 도 2를 참조하면, MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)은 실리콘 몸체 미세가공기술(Silicon Bulk Micromachining)을 이용하여 단결정 실리콘의 몸체(12)에 절연층(12a)을 형성한 후 이방성 습식 또는 건식 식각으로 가공하여 백챔버(19)와 진동막(14)을 구현한 후 실리콘 표면 미세가공기술(Silicon Surface Micromachining)에 따라 희생층을 이용하여 스페이서링(16)에 지지되는 다수의 음향 홀(18a)을 구비한 백플레이트(18)를 구현한 후 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)의 공기압 평형(Air equilibrium)을 위한 배기 홀(14a)을 진동막(14) 상에 가공하여 제조하였다. 그리고 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)의 몸체 전체를 접착할 수 있도록 도 1에 도시된 바와 같이 PCB기판(20)에 접착제(22)를 도포한 후 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)을 부착하고 건조시켜 패키징하였다.
멤스(MEMS) 마이크로폰 칩을 제조함에 있어서 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압의 평형(Air equilibrium)을 유지하기 위하여 진동막 상에 배기 홀(vent hole)을 형성하는데, 제조기술의 한계로 인하여 진동막 상의 배기 홀의 수가 많거나 직경이 클 경우에는 백플레이트와 진동막의 면적에 의하여 형성되는 전기용량이 작아짐으로써 감도가 저하되어 저주파대역의 특성이 열화되는 문제점이 있고, 진동막 상의 배기 홀의 수가 적거나 직경이 작을 경우에는 진동막의 감도는 높아지나 공기압 평형(Air equilibrium)이 미흡하여 백챔버에 공기 저항이 발생함으로 인해 반응속도 및 감도에 이상 현상이 발생되는 문제점이 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해소하기 위해 제안된 것으로, 본 발명의 목적은 기판에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 부착하면서 배기 경로(vent path)를 추가하여 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 제조상의 한계를 극복함으로써 음향특성이 향상된 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지 및 패키징 방법을 제공하는 것이다.
상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 발명의 패키지는 멤스 공정기술에 의해 실리콘 몸체에 백플레이트와 진동막 구조가 형성된 멤스 마이크로폰 칩; 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 실장하기 위한 기판; 상기 기판에 접착제를 도포하되 일부분은 비워두고 도포한 후 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 몸체와 상기 기판을 접착하여 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 몸체와 상기 기판 사이에 배기 경로가 형성된 접합부; 및 상기 기판과 접합되어 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 수용하기 위한 공간을 형성하는 케이스를 포함하여 상기 배기 경로를 통해 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압이 평형을 이루도록 함으로써 음향 특성을 향상시킨 것을 특징으로 한다.
또한 상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 발명의 패키징 방법은 기판을 준비하는 단계; 상기 기판에 도포할 접착제의 두께를 산출하는 단계; 배기 경로를 위해 일부를 비워두고 상기 기판에 상기 산출된 두께로 접착제를 도포하는 단계; 상기 접착제 위에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 부착하는 단계; 상기 접착제를 건조시키는 단계; 및 상기 기판에 케이스를 부착하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 기판은 PCB, 세라믹, 메탈 중 어느 하나이고, 상기 케이스나 상기 기판 중 어느 하나 또는 양측에는 음향홀이 형성된 것이다.
본 발명에 따른 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지는 기판에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 부착하면서 배기 경로(vent path)를 추가하여 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 제조상의 한계를 극복함으로써 음향 특성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 즉, 본 발명에 따르면 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 배기 홀에 관계없이 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압의 평형을 안정적으로 유지할 수 있어 진동막의 감도를 저하시키지 않으면서도 이상현상을 방지할 수 있다.

본 발명에 따른 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지는 도 3 및 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 실리콘 기판을 이용하여 백플레이트 및 진동막 구조를 갖는 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)을 구현한 후 PCB 기판(20)에 접착제(22)로 접착하여 조립하되 접착부의 일부를 비워두어 외부 공기압과 내부 공기압의 평형(Air equilibrium)을 유지하기 위한 배기 경로(24)를 추가로 형성한 것이다.
도 3 및 도 4를 참조하면, 본 발명에 사용되는 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)은 실리콘 몸체 미세가공기술(Silicon Bulk Micromachining)을 이용하여 단결정 실리콘의 몸체(12)의 상측에 절연층(12a)을 형성한 후 이방성 습식식각 또는 건식식각으로 가공하여 백챔버(19)와 진동막(14)을 구현한 후 실리콘 표면 미세가공기술(Silicon Surface Micromachining)에 따라 희생층을 이용하여 스페이서링(16)에 지지되는 백플레이트(18)를 증착하고 백챔버(19)와 MEMS 마이크로폰 칩(10)의 외부와의 공기압 평형(Air equilibrium)을 위한 배기 홀(14a)을 진동막(14) 상에 가공하여 제조한 것이다. 이때 백플레이트(18)에는 관통홀(18a)이 형성되어 있고, 진동막(14) 상에는 배기 홀(14a)이 형성되어 진동막(14)의 외측 공기압과 내측 공기압이 평형을 이루도록 되어 있다.
그리고 본 발명에 따른 MEMS 마이크로폰 패키지는 도 3에 도시된 바와 같이 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)과 기판(20) 사이의 접착부에 접착제(22)를 모두 도포하지 않고 일부에 배기 경로(24)를 형성할 수 있도록 접착제(22)를 비어 두어 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)을 기판(20)에 부착한 후 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이 접착제가 없는 부분에 배기 경로(24)가 형성되어 있다. 기판(20)으로는 PCB, 세라믹, 메탈 등이 가능하고, 접착제의 두께(T)는 주파수 특성 변화가 없는 수 ㎛ 내지 수십 ㎛ 정도가 바람직하다.
따라서 본 발명에 따른 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지는 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)의 배기 홀에 관계없이 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압의 평형을 안정적으로 유지할 수 있어 진동막의 감도를 저하시키지 않으면서도 이상현상을 방지할 수 있다.
도 5는 본 발명에 따라 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 패키징하는 절차를 도시한 순서도이다.
본 발명에 따라 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지를 제조하는 절차는 도 5에 도시된 바와 같이 기판(20)을 준비한 후 주파수 특성 변화가 없는 gap의 접착제 두께(T)를 산출하여 기판(20)에 접착제(22)를 산출된 두께로 도포하고, 접착제(22) 위에 멤스 마이크포폰 칩(10)을 부착한 후 건조시키는 과정으로 이루어진다(S1~S5). 그리고 기판(20)에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)을 구동하고 신호를 처리하기 위한 다른 회로소자들(30)을 부착한 후 기판(20)과 케이스(40)를 부착하여 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)과 실장된 회로소자(30)를 수용하기 위한 공간을 형성한다.
도 6은 본 발명에 따라 음향홀이 케이스에 형성된 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지의 예로서, 본 발명에 따라 기판(20)과 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10) 사이의 접합부 일측에 접착제(22)를 도포하지 않음으로써 공기압 평형을 달성하기 위한 배기 경로(24)를 형성한 후 음향홀(40a)이 형성된 케이스(40)를 기판(20)에 접합한 것이다.
도 6을 참조하면, 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)은 접착제(22)로 기판(20)에 접착되면서 접착제(22)가 도포되지 않은 부분을 통해 공기 흐름이 자유롭게 일어나도록 배기 경로(24)가 형성되어 있고, 케이스(40)에는 음향홀(40a)이 형성됨과 아울러 기판(20)과 접합되어 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)과 다른 회로소자(30)를 수용하기 위한 공간을 형성하고 있다.
따라서 본 발명에 따른 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지는 케이스(40)에 의해 형성된 음향홀(40a)을 통해 외부 음이 유입되면, 진동판(14)이 진동하게 되는데 배기 홀(14a)뿐만 아니라 배기 경로(24)를 통해 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)의 내부 공기(백챔버 공기)와 외부 공기가 자유롭게 왕래되어 진동막(14)의 진동에 따른 음압 변동을 신속하게 평형상태로 도달되게 하여 감도와 음향 특성을 향상시킬 수 있다.
도 7은 본 발명에 따라 음향홀이 기판에 형성된 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지의 예로서, 본 발명에 따라 음향홀(20a)이 형성된 기판(20)과 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10) 사이의 접합부 일측에 접착제(22)를 도포하지 않음으로써 공기압 평형을 달성하기 위한 배기 경로(24)를 형성한 후 음향홀이 없는 케이스(40)를 기판(20)에 접합한 것이다.
도 7을 참조하면, 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)은 접착제(22)로 기판(20)에 접착되면서 접착제(22)가 도포되지 않은 부분을 통해 공기 흐름이 자유롭게 일어나도록 배기 경로(24)가 형성되어 있고, 기판(20)에는 음향홀(20a)이 형성됨과 아울러 케이스(20)와 접합되어 멤스 마이크로폰 칩(10)과 다른 회로소자(30)를 수용하기 위한 공간을 형성하고 있다.
이상에서 본 발명은 도면에 도시된 일 실시예를 참고로 설명되었으나, 본 기술분야의 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 이로부터 다양한 변형 및 균등한 타 실시예가 가능하다는 점을 이해할 것이다.
본 발명은 기판에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 부착하면서 배기 경로(vent path)를 추가하여 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 제조상의 한계를 극복함으로써 음향 특성을 향상시키고, 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 배기 홀에 관계없이 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압의 평형을 안정적으로 유지할 수 있어 진동막의 감도를 저하시키지 않으면서도 이상현상을 방지할 수 있으므로, 산업상으로 현저한 이용 가능성이 있다.
Claims (6)
- 멤스 공정기술에 의해 실리콘 몸체에 백플레이트와 진동막 구조가 형성된 멤스 마이크로폰 칩;상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 실장하기 위한 기판;상기 기판에 접착제를 도포하되 일부분은 비워두고 도포한 후 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 몸체와 상기 기판을 접착하여 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 몸체와 상기 기판 사이에 배기 경로가 형성된 접합부; 및상기 기판과 접합되어 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 수용하기 위한 공간을 형성하는 케이스를 포함하여상기 배기 경로를 통해 상기 멤스 마이크로폰 칩의 내부 공기압과 외부 공기압이 평형을 이루도록 함으로써 음향특성을 향상시킨 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 케이스나 상기 기판 중 어느 하나 또는 양측에는 음향홀이 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 기판은 PCB, 세라믹, 메탈 중 어느 하나인 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 배기경로는 적어도 1개 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키지.
- 기판을 준비하는 단계;상기 기판에 도포할 접착제의 두께를 산출하는 단계;배기 경로를 위해 일부를 비워두고 상기 기판에 상기 산출된 두께로 접착제를 도포하는 단계;상기 접착제 위에 멤스 마이크로폰 칩을 부착하는 단계;상기 접착제를 건조시키는 단계; 및상기 기판에 케이스를 부착하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키징 방법.
- 제5항에 있어서, 상기 기판은PCB, 세라믹, 메탈 중 어느 하나이고, 상기 케이스나 상기 기판 중 어느 하나 또는 양측에는 음향홀이 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 멤스 마이크로폰 패키징 방법.
