Abstract

The invention relates to a device for cleaning the sleeve (2) of a paint roller (3), comprising a container (7) designed to contain a cleaning liquid and provided with holding means (11) for holding the roller (3) in order the position the sleeve (2) in the container (7) in a first position (12), and transmission means (13) to allow the sleeve (2) to be rotated in the first position (12) under the action of manual or motorized drive means (14), said roller holding means (11) being capable of positioning the roller sleeve (2) in the container (7) in at least one second position (15). In addition, the transmission means (13) or complementary transmission means (16) are provided to rotate the sleeve (2) in the second position (15) under the effect of suitable drive means (14). The invention is characterized in that the holding means (11) comprise retaining means (17) which can co-operate with the arm (4) of the paint roller (3).

Description

ROLLER SLEEVE CLEANING DEVICE

The invention relates to a paint roller sleeve cleaning device comprising a container adapted to contain a cleaning liquid, provided with means for holding the roller to position its sleeve in a first position in the container and transmission means for allow the sleeve to rotate in this first position under the action of manual or motorized drive means, said roller holding means being designed able to position its sleeve in at least a second position in the container, said transmission means or complementary transmission means being provided to also rotate said sleeve in said second position under the effect of suitable drive means.

The invention further relates to a method of cleaning a sleeve of a roller with such a device.

The present invention will find a very particular but in no way limiting application in the field of paint rollers and more generally relates to a device for cleaning the rollers.

In the usual way a paint roller has a handle at the end of an arm carrying an axis on which are freely rotatable sleeves whose lining, foam, footprint, fiber or other depends on the coating applied by means of said roller.

There are various manual or automatic devices for cleaning the sleeves of these rollers.

In particular, it is known from document FR 2 861 332, a manual cleaning device comprising, at the end of a handle, an annular scraper intended, by scraping, to wring, or to ensure the cleaning of the sleeve .

Also known are centrifugal paint roller cleaning devices. In particular the document GB 2 219 732 describes a container, which may contain a cleaning liquid, comprising means for holding the paint roller at its arm and transmission means for rotating the roller through drive means such as an electric motor, a screwdriver / driver or the like.

The container of such devices is intended to receive a liquid cleaning product, such as water or a solvent. Maintained in the container in a washing position, the roll is at least partially soaked in this liquid so as to allow its washing by centrifugation and phase exchange. Once washed, such devices require an additional operation of spinning the roll, to be carried out outside the container filled with the mixture: cleaning liquid and paint or after emptying said container. It is also known from GB No. 966 838 a device for cleaning a sleeve of a roller in which is placed on a shaft that includes a container the sleeve removed from its paint roller. Once in this washing position it is rotated using a motor. In addition, following this washing the container has a funnel which allows it to come to rotate the sleeve out of the rotating liquid.

In the same kind the document DE No. 19913 840 describes a device for cleaning a sleeve, removed from its paint roller. This sleeve is mounted on a shaft and placed in a container consisting of two coaxial speakers, the inner chamber comprising openings for the passage of the cleaning liquid which is filled the outer enclosure. The assembly is rotated, for washing, through a motor or a drill connected to the shaft on which is mounted the sleeve.

The drying of this sleeve is performed in the inner chamber which is extracted from the outer enclosure so as not to soak in the cleaning liquid. These devices are composed of two parts one for washing one for rinsing which is not practical in the case their transport or use on site, a party can easily go astray causing a waste of time for his research.

In addition, it requires the disassembly of the sleeve which adds additional steps, including disassembling the sleeve, mounting it on the cleaning device and reassembly of the latter on the roller arm.

The present invention proposes to solve the drawbacks of the state of the art by proposing a cleaning device allowing to carry out successively and directly the washing and spinning operations in the same enclosure and without the need beforehand the disassembly of the sleeve .

To do this, it is in the context of an inventive step that it has been imagined a container with several positions for the roller, particularly its sleeve, including a low washing position and a high spin position.

Thus, the invention relates to a paint roller sleeve cleaning device having a container adapted to contain a cleaning liquid, provided with means for holding the roller to position its sleeve in a first position in the container and means for transmission to allow rotation of the sleeve in this first position under the action of manual or motorized drive means, said roller holding means being designed able to position its sleeve in at least a second position in the container, said means for transmission or complementary transmission means being provided to also rotate said sleeve in said second position under the effect of adapted drive means characterized in that said holding means comprise retaining means provided adapted to cooperate with the arm of the paint roller.

According to another characteristic of the invention, said second position of the sleeve is located above said first position of the sleeve. According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the holding means comprise gripping means that comprise the transmission means or the complementary means. According to another particularity of the invention, said container comprises at least one aperture designed capable of allowing the transmission means and / or the complementary transmission means to pass so as to be rotated by said drive means. Advantageously, the device further comprises complementary spinning means, by compression of the sleeve, designed to wring the paint or cleaning liquid contained in said sleeve of the paint roller.

According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the device comprises an auxiliary container comprising separating means, filter type or the like.

The understanding of this description will be facilitated by reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

- Figure 1 is a representation of the device according to the invention in vertical section seen from the front, the sleeve of the roller is placed in the first position.

- Figure 2 is a perspective representation of a lid of said container with complementary dewatering means. FIG. 3 is a representation in vertical and lateral section of a particular embodiment of the device.

As shown in the figures of the attached drawing, the present invention relates to a cleaning device 1 for sleeve 2 of paint roller 3.

In this regard, such a paint roller 3 comprises an arm 4 from which extends at a first end, an axis 5 on which is designed capable of being mounted, free in rotation, such a sleeve 2, and to the opposite end this arm 4 receives a handle 6. More particularly, this handle 6 is bent type and has a first branch extending perpendicular to the arm 4 and therefore parallel to the axis 6, while a handle extends this branch parallel to the arm 4.

To return to the cleaning device 1, it comprises a container 7 provided with a peripheral envelope 8 composed of a plurality of walls 9a, 9b whose number depends on the section of the container 7, these walls 9a, 9b extending from a bottom 10.

The device 1 is also provided with holding means

11 of the roll 3 to position its sleeve 2 in a first position 12 in the container 7, without disassembling the sleeve 2 of the roll 3.

Preferentially but not exclusively, in this first position 12 of the sleeve 2 in the container 7, the sleeve 2 is provided capable of being partially or totally immersed in a cleaning liquid that can contain such a container 7.

The cleaning device further comprises transmission means 13 for rotating the sleeve 2 in this first position 12 in the container 7, this via suitable drive means 14 which can take different embodiments.

In particular, such drive means may be of the manual type and be, for example, in the form of a crank adapted to act on said transmission means 13, just as they can be motorized. In this case, these drive means 14 may be substantially defined by a drill, a screwdriver or an equivalent tool.

According to the invention, the holding means 11 are still designed to hold the paint roll 3 in such a way as to position its sleeve 2 in a second position 15 in the container 7. Preferably, in this second position 15 the sleeve 2 of the roll 3 is located above the first position 12 that it can take in the container 7 by means of the holding means 11. It can thus be conceived that the container 7 contains such a quantity of cleaning liquid for, as indicated previously, guarantee the maintenance of the sleeve 2 partially or totally immersed in this liquid when it is brought into its first position 12, while in the second position 15 it is above this cleaning liquid to allow its spinning .

In this connection, moreover, the transmission means 13 or the complementary transmission means 16 are again provided to allow the drive in rotation, by means of suitable drive means 14, the sleeve 2 when the latter is brought into this second position 15 in the container 7.

According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the holding means 11 comprise retaining means 17 provided adapted to cooperate with the arm 4 of the paint roller 3. According to another embodiment of the invention, the means of maintenance 11 also comprise gripping means 18 that comprise the transmission means 13 or complementary ones 16.

With particular regard to the retaining means 17, they are defined by at least one housing 19 formed internally to the container 7 at one of the walls 9a of the latter. In this housing is provided able to engage, at least partially, the arm 4 of the paint roller 3. In order to be able to bring the sleeve 2 in its first position 12 and second position 15, the arm 4 is itself designed to come to occupy at least two adapted positions in the housing 19.

According to a preferred embodiment, it is defined by a U-shaped groove or a U-shaped section extending substantially vertically along the wall 9a, internally to the container 7. Along this groove, so the housing 19 , indexing means 20 are provided, for example in the form of stops 21 defining at least two positions of the arm 4 in this housing 19 for bringing the sleeve 2 into its first and second positions 12, 15. As for the gripping means 18, they can be defined by a claw clamp or a drive flange 22 designed to be applied on the end 23 of the sleeve 2, opposite the arm 4. Moreover, it is under the impetus of these gripping means 18, in this case the flange 22 that the roller 3 is held in position, its arm 4 pushed into its housing 19.

The transmission means 13 may take different embodiments.

However, according to a preferred embodiment, these transmission means 13 are defined by a drive shaft 24 carrying, at its inner end 25 to the container 7 gripping means 18, the drive shaft 24 being defined able to through an opening 26 formed in the wall 9b of the container 7 preferably in the axial extension of the sleeve 2 when the latter is in its first position 12.

In sum, this opening 26 is formed in the wall 9b opposite that 9a provided with the retaining means 17 of the paint roller 3.

It should be noted that the opening 26 is provided with sealing means 27 of the stuffing-box or other type capable of guaranteeing the tightness of the receptacle 7 at this passage of the drive shaft 24 and thus avoiding the flow of cleaning liquid contained in this container 7.

On the end 28, outside the container 7, of the drive shaft 24, can act the drive means 14 which has been shown in the form of a drill or screwdriver in the diagram of Figure 1. The invention is however not limited to such an embodiment of these drive means 14.

In the same way, complementary transmission means 16 may be defined in the form of a drive shaft 24a carrying at one end 25a gripping means 18 completing the holding means 11 of the roller 3 to position the sleeve 2 in its seat. second position 15, this drive shaft 24a through the opening 26a in the wall 9b of the container 7, in the axial extension of said sleeve 2 when it is brought into this second position 15. Again, this opening 26a may be provided with sealing means 27a although in this second position of the sleeve 3 in the container 7, it is expected to no longer be in contact with the cleaning liquid in order to allow spinning by centrifugation.

Whatever the case, on its end 28a, external to the container 7, on this drive shaft 24a, can again act the drive means 14.

Thus, if the device according to the invention can comprise both transmission means 13 and complementary transmission means 16, it can still be envisaged that the transmission means 13 for driving the sleeve 2 by the means of transmission. 14 when it is brought into its first position 12, these same transmission means 13, by displacement, that is to say by disengaging the opening 26 and insertion into the opening 26a, the shaft 24 , play the role of complementary transmission means 16 for driving the sleeve 2 when positioned in its second position 15.

According to another embodiment, the complementary transmission means 16 may be in the form of a gear train, a pulley-type system and belt or similar device, connecting the gripping means 18a, contributing to the maintenance of the roller 3 for positioning the sleeve 2 in its second position 15, said transmission means 13 for the rotational drive of this sleeve 2 in this second position 15 under the influence of the drive means 14 acting on the means of transmission 13.

The advantage of such a design is that in the wall 9b of the container 7, it can be provided only one sealed opening 26 for the passage of the drive shaft 24 corresponding to these drive means 14 on this tree drive 24 coming to recover the complementary transmission means 16.

According to yet another particularity of the invention, the cleaning device comprises complementary dewatering means 29 which, advantageously, are in the form of compression means of the sleeve 2.

Thus, such additional spinning means 29 are advantageously in the form of an axially split tube or ring 30. In this tube or this ring is engaged the sleeve 2 for compressing it, to wring it out of the paint it contains or cleaning fluid.

Preferably, in the case of a tube 30, as shown in FIG. 2, it may be provided with a mouthpiece 31 of frustoconical shape to facilitate engagement of the sleeve 2.

According to another particularity of the invention, these complementary spinning means 29 are associated with a lid 32 designed able to close the container 7.

Thus, this additional dewatering means 29 can be fixed on this cover 32 so as to extend into the container 7 when said cover 32 is mounted on the latter or vice versa.

Be that as it may, this cover 32 has an embossed shape so as to define a container 33 inside which can be stored the liquid or paint flowing from the sleeve 2 during its spinning.

According to yet another feature of the present invention, the container 7 is provided near or at its bottom 10, emptying means 34 facilitating the flow of the contents of the container 7 and cleaning.

According to yet another particularity of the invention, the container 7 of the cleaning device is associated with an auxiliary container 35. This can be juxtaposed laterally to the container 7 to extend below the latter. In such an auxiliary container 35 can be stored paint, cleaning fluid where it can come there recover the cleaning liquid after cleaning one or more sleeves, that is to say polluted with paint. Thus, this auxiliary paint container 35 can be provided with separation means 36, by decantation, filtration or other, for separating at least a portion of the paint cleaning fluid to revaluate one or the other products. .

Like the container 7, this auxiliary container 35 can be provided with suitable emptying means. In addition, communication means may be provided to facilitate the flow of the liquid contained in one of the containers, in
