Beschreibung description
The invention relates to a cleaning method according to the preamble of claim 1 and a cleaning device according to the preamble of claim 4.
Cleaning methods and cleaning devices of the type mentioned at the outset are known, for example, from the patents EP-A1 472 308 and CH 558 681 and are used in painting workshops and, where appropriate, in buildings in which painting work is carried out for cleaning dirty paint rollers. The fiber area of the rolling surface of paint rollers takes up about 300-600 gr of paint, which must be removed when cleaning the roller. Even with a single cleaning, a large amount of color residue is created. When using water-thinnable paints, the rollers are often cleaned because these paints dry quickly on the roller when work is interrupted. If the residues consisting of pigments and resins are simply flushed into the sewage system with water, the pollution of the wastewater is very high. For ecological reasons, a large proportion of the residues must be removed from the flushing water before it reaches the sewage system.
A roller cleaning device according to EP-A1 472 308 provides a closable housing in which a paint roller, rotatably mounted and inserted by nozzles, can be sprayed with a cleaning liquid, preferably water. The spraying causes the roller to rotate, so that cleaning fluid is sprayed onto all areas of the circumferential surface at times.
A major disadvantage of this cleaning process is the large consumption of cleaning liquid, which is subsequently contaminated with color components. If the contaminated liquid is cleaned by flocculation and settling processes, large containers and long settling times are necessary due to the large quantities. The spatial conditions and investments required to process the cleaning liquid exceed the possibilities of smaller painting companies, so that the contaminated liquid has to be transported to companies with treatment plants with a great deal of transport effort, or it can get into the wastewater untreated. Another disadvantage of the device which sprays and rotates the roller is the fact that a film of color residues is formed at least in the liquid fiber pressure and / or small amounts of liquid, at least in the inner fiber region of the roller, which often cannot be removed by spraying, since the liquid hitting the roller is braked heavily in the outer fiber area and therefore cannot penetrate deep enough.
The patent specification CH 558 681 describes a housing in which a roller can be rotated from the outside by a drive device. When cleaning, the roller is first rotated in a liquid and, after the housing has been tilted, rinsed outside the liquid with further cleaning liquid and freed of the liquid retained in the fiber area by rotation. It has been shown that when the roller is rotated in the liquid in the fiber area, a film of color residues and liquid forms, which rotates with the outer surface of the roller and has only a slight exchange with the remaining cleaning liquid. The roller would have to be rotated for a very long time to get a sufficiently large proportion of color residues out of the fiber area. Flushing and replacing the cleaning liquid after cleaning a scooter in turn creates a large amount of contaminated liquid.
The invention is therefore based on the object of describing a method and a device which enables fast and optimal cleaning of paint rollers with a low consumption of cleaning fluid. The device should be easy to operate and maintain and the space required and the investments required should be small.
In a first step to achieve this object, the invention is based on the knowledge that the cleaning must consist of a main cleaning and, if necessary, a final cleaning. The main cleaning should remove the largest part of the color residues using the same cleaning liquid over a longer period of time, so that by means of the subsequent final cleaning, if necessary, only a small remaining part of the color residues has to be removed with further cleaning liquid. In order to use the same cleaning liquid over a longer period of time, a main cleaning container is preferably provided, which provides an upper cleaning area, a middle settling area and a lower collecting area for color residues. So that no undesired biological and / or chemical processes, for example with the development of odors, take place in the liquid, even with longer residence times, the liquid is preferably pretreated by the addition of conditioning agents and is thereby made durable. The pretreatment can also serve to cause faster settling behavior for color residues. If water is used as a cleaning agent in the case of water-dilutable paints, a conditioning agent consisting of disinfectant and / or flocculating and / or emulsifying and / or buffering agent and / or is used to preserve the water and / or to improve the settling behavior Neutralizing agent added. The disinfectant is preferably a commercial disinfectant for swimming pools.
In a second step, it is recognized that the cleaning liquid can only efficiently remove the color residues from the fiber area of the paint roller by a combination of rinsing and squeezing. This combination is achieved according to the invention in that the peripheral roller surface to be cleaned is at least partially, but preferably completely, immersed in a cleaning liquid in the cleaning area of a main cleaning container and is rolled off by means of guide movements on the roller handle with a pressing force over a pressing surface.

The squeezing surface covered by cleaning fluid must have at least the length of the roller circumference and must be attached to the main cleaning container so that the roller handle does not dip into the cleaning fluid during the guide movements. When rolling over the entire pressing surface, the fibrous material of each partial area of the peripheral surface is briefly compressed, so that the cleaning liquid is pressed out of the fiber material together with color residues. Immediately after squeezing, the peripheral surface is removed from the squeezing surface again and the fiber material absorbs cleaning liquid again in the sense of a rinse, which in turn can dissolve color residues and, together with these residues, is pressed out of the fiber material the next time it is compressed. Repeated compression is achieved by moving the scooter back and forth across the squeezing surface.
Instead of forward and backward movements of the scooter over an unmoved pressing surface, at least one drum-shaped rotatable pressing surface can optionally be provided such that the peripheral circumferential surface only has to be pressed against this at least one drum and a drive device rotates at least one pressing drum so far that the Circumferential surface rolls at least once, but preferably several times. In order to simplify the pressing of the scooter, two drums are preferably provided in the embodiment with a moving pressing surface. The distance between the rotatable drums is smaller than the roller diameter, so that the roller can be pressed between the two drums. Even if only one drum is driven, the other is also driven via the rotating circumferential surface of the scooter. If the embodiment with at least one pressing drum is supplemented by a pressing device for the roller, it is preferably suitable when using a volatile cleaning agent because the cleaning process can be carried out in a closed container.
A squeezing surface or squeezing drum is designed as a rigid surface with passage openings for the cleaning liquid, preferably as a perforated plate, but optionally also as a sieve. The proportion of the total perforated area in the total area is preferably between 30% and 70%, in particular approximately 50%. It is also conceivable that sheets with an at least partially corrugated surface or, if necessary, partially with felt or brush-like coatings are used in order to intensify cleaning, in particular in the inner region of the roller coating.
After cleaning by means of rinsing and squeezing passes on the squeezing surface, a squeezing process outside of the cleaning liquid is preferably carried out to remove the liquid remaining in the roller fiber material. In the simplest case, the roller is moved up and / or down on the container wall under press contact. In order to improve the removal of the liquid, a part of the squeezing surface protruding from the cleaning liquid or, if appropriate, a dry pressing surface separate therefrom can be provided. The area intended for drying must in turn preferably allow the entire circumferential surface of the roller to be rolled off. If necessary, a lifting device is also provided so that the squeezing surface or, if appropriate, the at least one squeezing drum can be lifted out of the cleaning liquid and then used for drying.
If the cleaning liquid is so heavily contaminated with color residues that the rollers have too much color residues after the main cleaning, the squeezing surface is removed from the container and preferably a flocculant is added and evenly distributed in the cleaning liquid by stirring. In a subsequent resting phase, preferably overnight, the flocculated portion can settle. By settling, an upper area with essentially pure cleaning liquid is created in the cleaning container. To remove this pure cleaning liquid, an outlet is arranged in the container at a height that lies above the area with color residues. The essentially solids-free liquid can be discharged through this outlet. If the cleaning liquid is water, the water flowing out through the outlet can be drained into the sewage system as clear water.
To remove the color residues from the container area near the bottom, the container is preferably tilted and the color residues are pulled out of the container with style using a scraper and filled into a bucket. A removal device with a removal opening near the bottom in the cleaning container is optionally provided for removing the residues. After a subsequent passive drying of the residues, these can be removed in a waste incineration plant, preferably with flue gas cleaning.
The cleaning device according to the invention has the advantage that it can be produced from a commercially available container, for example a refuse bin, by attaching an outlet and a pressing surface according to the invention. The acquisition costs and the operating and maintenance expenses are small. In a preferred embodiment, the container has a height between 80 cm and 100 cm, and an average inner dimension at the upper end between 50 cm and 35 cm and is therefore of a size which has space in any painting business and does not cause any transportation problems. The container can be easily taken in buildings where painting work is carried out and is therefore always at hand when scooters need to be cleaned.

The cleaning movement when cleaning brushes includes stripping and pressing the application surface against the squeezing surface. Even painting tools without application areas, such as stirring tools, grids or paint kettles, can be cleaned in the cleaning liquid above the squeezing area.

The container is taller than it is wide and has an opening 4 at the upper end. The squeezing surface 3 is oriented essentially horizontally and leads from a first container wall against the opposite second wall. At a distance from the second wall, the pressing surface 3 is angled in a transition region 5 and leads as a dry pressing surface 6 to the edge of the opening 4. The radius of curvature of the transition region 5 must be selected such that a roller 7 leads well from the pressing surface 3 to the dry pressing surface 6 can be. The common scooters 7 consist of a holder 8 at one end of a handle
9 angeordnet und am andern Ende eine Farbrolle 9 arranged and at the other end a paint roller
10 with a diameter of about 8-9 cm is rotatably attached. The radius of curvature of the transition region 5 must therefore certainly be greater than the roller radius. It will be at least 5 cm, preferably about 10 cm.
The angle between the pressing surface 3 and the dry pressing surface 6 is between 90 ° and 120 °, but preferably between 100 ° and 110 °, in particular approximately 105 °. The preferred inclination of the dry pressing surface 6 enables the pressed liquid to flow off. By forming the pressing surfaces 3, 6 from a perforated plate which is flat in one direction, the cleaning liquid can get down through the openings 12 from the side of the roller. The surface level 11 of the cleaning liquid is preferably selected so that a paint roller 10 pressed onto the pressing surface 3 is completely, possibly only partially, surrounded by cleaning liquid. The level 11 must not be far above the roller 10, because otherwise the handle 9 would be too close to the liquid and the dry pressing surface would be too short.
So that the entire circumferential surface of the roller 10 both on the pressing surface and on the
Dry pressing surface can be unrolled at least once, the preferred working length of these surfaces 3, 6 is about 24 cm each. Since the level 11 fluctuates in a certain range and these fluctuations primarily affect the usable length of the dry pressing surface 6, it is made somewhat larger, in particular approximately 26 cm long. When using smaller or larger paint rollers 10, it could also be expedient to select the pressing surfaces shorter or longer, so that the length of the pressing surface is between 16 cm and 32 cm, preferably between 20 cm and 28 cm, but in particular between 22 cm and 26 cm, and the length of the dry pressing surface between 18 cm and 34 cm, preferably between 22 cm and 30 cm, but in particular between 24 cm and 28 cm.
To limit the roller movement upwards on the dry pressing surface 6, a closing part 13 projecting above the surface is provided at its upper end. The part 13 preferably protrudes on both sides over the surface 6, so that it can also be brought into a holding connection with a holding element 14 at the edge of the opening 4. So that the pressing surfaces 3, 6 are held in the desired position, at least one spacer 15 is provided in addition to the holding element 14, which ensures the desired distance from the second container wall in the transition region 5.
The interior of the container is divided by the squeezing surface 3 into a cleaning space 2a above the squeezing surface and a settling space 2b below. The settling room must have a height that allows the desired settling process.
Above the bottom of the container, an outlet opening 16, preferably with a hose 17 adjoining it, which essentially leads to the upper edge of the container, is provided at a height between a quarter and an eighth of the total container height. In order to prevent liquid from flowing out, the hose 17 is held at the upper end of the container 2 by means of a hose holder 18. After a settling process, the hose 17 is lowered so that the pure cleaning liquid can be drained off. Of course, a tap could also be attached to the opening 16. However, it has been shown that a tap can be quickly glued due to color residues.
Another embodiment provides, according to FIG. 2, that the pressing surface 3 does not simply run horizontally, but is curved in a U-shape. In a region 3a, the squeezing surface leads upwards along the first container wall and is preferably closed off by a roller stop 19 projecting against the interior of the container. At least one spacer element 20 protrudes from the pressing surface 3a against the first wall and thus has a space for the cleaning liquid. With the curved design, a sufficiently long unwinding length is obtained even with a small container diameter. However, it should be noted that at least the pressing surface 3

Innerhalb der angegebenen Einschränkungen kann die Auspressfläche 3 beliebig ausgebildet sein und dabei insbesondere eine ergonomisch sinnvolle Führung des Rollers 7 gewährleisten. has a length of at least 20 cm, but preferably of at least 22 cm, within a maximum height range of 15 cm, but preferably a maximum of 10 cm, so that the cleaning liquid level 11 can be selected so that when the roller moves over the squeezing surface 3 the Ink roller 10 always at least partially, but preferably completely, but the handle 9 is never in the cleaning liquid. The squeezing surface 3 can be of any design within the stated restrictions and in particular ensure ergonomically sensible guidance of the scooter 7.
The embodiment according to FIG. 3 shows that the container 2 can preferably be closed with a lid 21 and preferably has two wheels 22 in order to simplify the displacement. A support device 23 is optionally rotatably attached to the upper container edge. The supporting device 23 is provided in a U-shape so that it leads downward on two opposite sides with angled arms 24 when the container 2 is vertical, where the two arms 24 are connected to one another by a connection 25 on a third side past the container.
The function of the support device 23 is shown in FIG. 4. The container 2 is tilted out of the vertical position and the support device is rotated via the lid 21 until a stop 26 or a latching device is present on a suitable counterpart of the upper container edge. When the container 2 is aligned horizontally, the support device 23 stands on the connection 25 and holds the opening 4 at a desired distance from the floor, so that a bucket 27 can be placed underneath. With the help of a scraper surface 29 on a scraper handle 28, the color residues 30 can be moved from the container 2 into the bucket 27. If necessary, the container 2 is placed on a second bucket 31 at the lower end.
Other embodiments are of course also conceivable for the container 2, the support device 23 and the pressing surfaces 3, 6, as long as the steps necessary for the cleaning process can be carried out.
