  • the present invention relates to a flange joint comprising a pair of tubular pieces to be joined, a clamping flange mounted on each of the pieces to be joined, retaining means cooperating with the clamping flanges for joining the said pieces, wherein at least one of the clamping flanges is mounted on a corresponding piece to be joined in a manner allowing rotary movement by using a locking ring in the mounting, the said ring being fitted in a locking groove formed in the piece to be joined and in a complementary groove formed in the clamping flange, the said complementary groove joining in the axial direction of the clamping flange with a relief groove extending to the end face of the clamping flange, which relief groove opens towards the joining point of the pieces to be joined.

  • Clamping flanges mounted fixedly, for example by welding, to the ends of the pipes to be joined were previously widely used.

  • a problem with known flange joints allowing a turning movement of the clamping flange has been that the locking ring has often been subjected to rather strong shear forces when the clamping flanges at the ends of the pieces to be joined towards each other have been tightened, which in practice means that the locking ring cannot be reused should the joint have to be uncoupled and then reinstalled.
  • One aim of the present invention is, therefore, to provide an improved flange joint construction making possible the reuse of the locking ring should the joint have to be uncoupled and reinstalled.
  • the flange joint according to the invention is characterised in that the locking ring is essentially circular in cross-section; that both the locking groove and the complementary groove of the clamping flange is provided with a section of the circular surface located essentially opposite in the direction of the diameter of the locking ring in cross-section, the said sections of the circular surface settling, respectively, essentially against the circumferential surface of the locking ring within an angular area of approximately 45°-100° so that the centres of curvature of the said circular surfaces will join essentially with the centre of the locking ring; and that in the complementary groove of the clamping flange is formed a bevelling, which forms an essentially conical transitional area between the circular surface of the complementary groove and the bottom surface of the relief groove.

Abstract

L'invention porte sur un raccord à brides comprenant une paire de pièces tubulaires (1, 7) à raccorder ; une bride de serrage (2, 9) montée sur chaque pièce (1, 7) à raccorder ; des moyens de fixation (10, 11) coopérant avec les brides de serrage (2, 9) pour raccorder les pièces (1, 7). Au moins l'une (2) des brides de serrage est montée sur la pièce correspondante (1) à raccorder, de manière à permettre, lors du montage, un mouvement de rotation avec une bague de verrouillage (3) adaptée dans une rainure de verrouillage (4) formée dans la pièce (1) à raccorder et dans une rainure complémentaire (5) formée dans la bride de serrage (2). La rainure complémentaire est reliée, dans la direction axiale de la bride de serrage, à une rainure de relâchement s'étendant jusqu'à la face d'extrémité (4) de la bride de serrage. La rainure de relâchement s'ouvre vers le point de raccordement des pièces à raccorder. La bague de verrouillage est munie d’une section transversale essentiellement circulaire ; la rainure de verrouillage et la rainure complémentaire (5) de la bride de serrage (2) comportent toutes deux une section de la surface circulaire située essentiellement de façon opposée dans la direction du diamètre de la bague de verrouillage en section transversale. Les sections de la surface circulaire s'appuient, respectivement, essentiellement contre la surface circonférentielle de la bague de verrouillage dans une zone angulaire d'approximativement 45°-100°, de telle sorte que les centres de courbure des surfaces circulaires correspondent essentiellement au centre de la bague de verrouillage. Un chanfrein (21) est formé dans la rainure complémentaire de la bride de serrage. Le chanfrein (21) définit une zone de transition essentiellement conique entre la surface circulaire de la rainure complémentaire (5) et la surface de fond de la rainure de relâchement.
