Abstract
内燃機関において、機関排気通路内にNOx選択還元触媒(15)を配置し、尿素水タンク(20)内に貯留された尿素水をNOx選択還元触媒(15)に供給してNOxを選択的に還元する。尿素水タンク(20)をメインタンク(20a)と、メインタンク(20a)内に配置されたサブタンク(20b)とにより構成する。サブタンク(20b)内の尿素水が尿素水供給弁(17)に送り込まれ、尿素水タンク(20)内に尿素水を補充すべきときにはサブタンク(20b)内に尿素水が補充される。レベルセンサ(40)により尿素水タンク(20)内に尿素水が補充されたか否かを判断し、尿素水タンク(20)内に尿素水が補充された直後の機関運転時にNOx浄化率が許容レベル以下まで低下したと判断されたときには補充された尿素水が異常であると判定される。

明 細 書 内燃機関の排気浄化装置 技術分野 - 本発明は内燃機関の排気浄化装置に関する。 背景技術
機関排気通路内に N〇x選択還元触媒を配置し、 尿素水タンク内 に貯留された尿素水を N〇x選択還元触媒に供給して尿素水から発 生するアンモニアにより排気ガス中に含まれる N〇xを選択的に還 元するようにした内燃機関の排気浄化装置において、 尿素水の異常 を検出するために尿素水タンク内に尿素水濃度センサを配置した内 燃機関が公知である (例えば特開 2 0 0 5— 8 3 2 2 3号公報を参 昭 ) 。
しかしながらこの尿素水濃度センサは高価であり、 より廉価な他 の方法を使用したいのが現状である。 発明の開示
本発明の目的は、 廉価でかつ確実に尿素水の異常を検出すること のできる排気浄化装置を提供することにある。
本発明によれば、 機関排気通路内に N O x選択還元触媒を配置し 、 尿素水タンク内に貯留された尿素水を尿素水供給弁から N〇x選 択還元触媒に供給して尿素水から発生するアンモニアにより排気ガ ス中に含まれる N〇xを選択的に還元するようにした内燃機関の排 気浄化装置において、 尿素水タンクをメイ ンタンクと、 メイ ンタン ク内に配置されかつメイ ンタンクより も小型でメイ ンタンク内に連
通するサブタンクとにより構成し、 サブタンク内の尿素水を尿素水 供給弁に送り込むと共に尿素水タンク内に尿素水を補充すべきとき にはサブタンク内に尿素水が補充され、 尿素水タンク内に尿素水が 補充されたか否かを判断する尿素水補充判断手段と、 Ν Ο χ浄化率 が許容レベル以下まで低下したか否かを判断する Ν Ο χ浄化率判断 手段とを具備しており、 尿素水タンク内に尿素水が補充された直後 の機関運転時に Ν〇χ浄化率が許容レベル以下まで低下したと判断 されたときには補充された尿素水が異常であると判定される内燃機 関の排気浄化装置が提供される。
ところで尿素水の異常、 即ち尿素水の濃度低下は、 例えば規格外 の尿素水が補充されたり、 或いは尿素水以外の液体が補充されたと きに主に生ずる。 一方、 尿素水の濃度低下は機関運転時における Ν 〇 χ浄化率の低下となって表れる。 ところで本発明では尿素水がサ ブタンク内に補充され、 サブタンク内の尿素水が尿素水供給弁から 供給されるので尿素水の補充直後には補充された尿素水が尿素水供 給弁から供給される。 従って尿素水が補充された直後の機関運転時 における Ν〇χ浄化率の低下から確実に尿素水の異常を検出するこ とができ、 従って廉価な方法で確実に尿素水の異常を検出できるこ とになる。 図面の簡単な説明

発明を実施するための最良の形態
図 1 に圧縮着火式内燃機関の全体図を示す。
図 1 を参照すると、 1 は機関本体、 2 は各気筒の燃焼室、 3 は各 燃焼室 2 内に夫々燃料を噴射するための電子制御式燃料噴射弁、 4 は吸気マニホルド、 5 は排気マニホル ドを夫々示す。 吸気マ二ホル ド 4は吸気ダク ト 6 を介して排気ターボチャージャ 7のコンプレツ サ 7 aの出口に連結され、 コンプレッサ 7 aの入口は吸入空気量検 出器 8 を介してエアク リーナ 9 に連結される。 吸気ダク ト 6内には ステップモー夕により駆動されるスロッ トル弁 1 0が配置され、 更 に吸気ダク ト 6周りには'吸気ダク ト 6内を流れる吸入空気を冷却す るための冷却装置 1 1が配置される。 図 1 に示される実施例では機 関冷却水が冷却装置 1 1 内に導かれ、 機関冷却水によって吸入空気 が冷却される。
一方、 排気マニホルド 5は排気ターボチャージャ 7 の排気夕一ビ ン 7 bの入口に連結され、 排気夕一ビン 7 bの出口は酸化触媒 1 2 の入口に連結される。 この酸化触媒 1 2の下流には酸化触媒 1 2 に 隣接して排気ガス中に含まれる粒子状物質を捕集するためのパティ キュレー トフィル夕 1 3が配置され、 このパティキュレー トフィル 夕 1 3 の出口は排気管 1 4を介して N O x選択還元触媒 1 5の入口 に連結される。 この N〇x選択還元触媒 1 5の出口には酸化触媒 1 6が連結される。
N O x選択還元触媒 1 5上流の排気管 1 4内には尿素水供給弁 1 7が配置され、 この尿素水供給弁 1 7 は供給管 1 8、 供給ポンプ 1 9 を介して尿素水タンク 2 0 に連結される。 尿素水タンク 2 0 内に 貯蔵されている尿素水は供給ポンプ 1 9 によって尿素水供給弁 1 7 から排気管 1 4内を流れる排気ガス中に噴射され、 尿素から発生し たアンモニア ( (N H 2 ) 2 C〇 + H 2 0→ 2 N H 3 + C〇2 ) によつ
て排気ガス中に含まれる N O xが N O x選択還元触媒 1 5 において還 元される。 図 1 に示されるように尿素水タンク 2 ひ内には尿素水夕 ンク 2 0内の尿素水の液面の高さを検出可能なレベルセンサ 4 0が 配置されており、 このレベルセンサ 4 0は尿素水タンク 2 0内の尿 素水の液面の高さに比例した出力を発生する。
排気マ二ホルド 5 と吸 マニホルド 4 とは排気ガス再循環 (以下
、 E G Rと称す) 通路 2 1 を介して互いに連結され 、 E G R通路 2
1 内には電子制御式 E G R制御弁 2 2が配置される また、 E G R 通路 2 1周り には E G R通路 2 1 内を流れる E G Rガスを冷却する ための冷却装置 2 3が配置される。 図 1 に示される実施例では機関 冷却水が冷却装置 2 3内に導かれ、 機関冷却水によ て E G Rガス が冷却される。 一方 、 各燃料噴射弁 3 は燃料供給管 2 4 を介してコ モンレール 2 5 に連 $口され 、 このコモンレール 2 5は電子制御式の 吐出量可変な燃料ポンプ 2 6 を介して燃料タンク 2 7 に連結される
。 燃料タンク 2 7 内に貯蔵されている燃料は燃料ポンプ 2 6 によつ てコモンレール 2 5内に供給され、 コモンレール 2 内に供給され た燃料は各燃料供給管 2 4 を介して燃料噴射弁 3 に供給される。
また、 本発明では N O x浄化率が許容レベル以下まで低下したか 否かを判断する N O x浄化率判断手段が設けられており、 図 1 に示 される実施例ではこの N〇x浄化率判断手段は酸化触媒 1 6の下流 に配置された N O xセンサ 4 1からなる。 この N O xセンサ 4 1 は排 気ガス中の N〇x濃度に比例した出力を発生する。
電子制御ュニッ ト 3 0 はデジタルコンピュータからなり、 双方向 性バス 3 1 によって互いに接続された R〇 M (リー ドオンリ メモリ ) 3 2 、 R A M (ランダムアクセスメモリ) 3 3 、 C P U (マイク 口プロセッサ) 3 4、 入力ポー ト 3 5および出力ポー ト 3 6 を具備 する。 レベルセンサ 4 0 、 N〇xセンサ 4 1および吸入空気量検出
器 8の出力信号は対応する AD変換器 3 7を介して入力ポー ト 3 5 に入力される。 また、 アクセルペダル 4 5にはアクセルペダル 4 5 の踏込み量 Lに比例した出力電圧を発生する負荷センサ 4 6が接続 され、 負荷センサ 4 6の出力電圧は対応する AD変換器 3 7 を介し て入力ポー ト 3 5に入力される。 更に入力ポー ト 3 5にはクランク シャフ トが例えば 1 5 ° 回転する毎に出力パルスを発生するグラン ク角センサ 4 7が接続される。 一方、 出力ポー ト 3 6は対応する駆 動回路 3 8 を介して燃料噴射弁 3、 スロッ トル弁 1 0の駆動用ステ ップモー夕、 尿素水供給弁 1 7、 供給ポンプ 1 9、 E G R制御弁 2 2および燃料ポンプ 2 6 に接続される。
酸化触媒 1 2は例えば白金のような貴金属触媒を担持しており、 この酸化触媒 1 2は排気ガス中に含まれる NOを N〇2に転換する 作用と排気ガス中に含まれる H Cを酸化させる作用をなす。 即ち、 N02は NOより も酸化性が強く、 従って NOが NO 2に転換される とパティキュレー トフィル夕 1 3上に捕獲された粒子状物質の酸化 反応が促進され、 また NOx選択還元触媒 1 5でのアンモニアによ る還元作用が促進される。 パティキュレー トフィル夕 1 3 としては 触媒を担持していないパティキユレ一 トフィル夕を用いることもで きるし、 例えば白金のような貴金属触媒を担持したパティキュレー トフィル夕を用いることもできる。 一方、 NOx選択還元触媒 1 5 は低温で高い N〇x浄化率を有するアンモニア吸着タイプの F eゼ オライ トから構成することもできるし、 アンモニアの吸着機能がな ぃチタニア · バナジウム系の触媒から構成することもできる。 酸化 触媒 1 6は例えば白金からなる貴金属触媒を担持しており、 この酸 化触媒 1 6は NOx選択還元触媒 1 5から漏出したアンモニアを酸 化する作用をなす。
図 2 に図 1 に示される尿素水タンク 2 0の拡大図を示す。 図 2に
示されるように本発明による実施例では、 尿素水タンク 2 0 はメイ ンタンク 2 0 a と、 メイ ンタンク 2 0 a内に配置されかつメイ ン夕 ンク 2 0 aより も小型でメイ ンタンク 2 0 a内に連通するサブタン ク 2 O b とにより構成される。 このサブタンク 2 O bはメイ ンタン ク 2 0 a内においてメインタンク 2 0 a内の底部から上方に延びる 筒状体 5 0 内に形成されている。 この筒状体 5 0 の頂部はメイ ン夕 ンク 2 0 a内に開放されており、 筒状体 5 0の下端部は底壁 5 1 に よって覆われている。 従って図 2 に示される実施例ではサブタンク 2 0 bはカップ状をなしている。
図 2 に示されるようにサブタンク 2 0 bの底部には小径の連通穴 5 2が形成されており、 サブタンク 2 0 b内はこのサブタンク 2 0 bの底部に形成された連通穴 5 2 を介してメイ ンタンク 2 0 a内に 連通せしめられている。 サブタンク 2 0 b内の尿素水を尿素水供給 弁 1 7 に送り込むために供給ポンプ 1 9の尿素水吸込管 5 3がサブ タンク 2 0 b内を下方に向けて延びており、 この尿素水吸込管 5 3 の先端部 5 4、 即ち尿素水供給弁 1 7 に送り込まれる尿素水の取入 口 5 4はサブタンク 2 0 bの底部に配置されている。
一方、 図 2 に示されるようにメイ ンタンク 2 0 a内に尿素水を補 充するための尿素水補充管 5 5がメイ ンタンク 2 0 aの頂部の隅部 に取付けられており、 この尿素水補充管 5 5の内端部はサブタンク 2 0 bの頂部においてサブタンク 2 0 b内に向けて開口している。 尿素水タンク 2 0内に尿素水を補充すべきときには尿素水補充管 5 5の外端部に取付られたキャップ 5 6が取外ずされ、 新たな尿素水 が尿素水補充管 5 5 を介してサブタンク 2 0 b内に補充される、 即 ち、 本発明では尿素水タンク 2 0内に尿素水を補充すべきときには サブタンク 2 0 b内に尿素水が補充される。
図 2 に示される例では尿素水の液面レベルを検出するためのレべ
ルセンサ 4 0がメインタンク 2 0 a内に配置されている。 これに対 し、 図 3に示される例ではレベルセンサ 4 0がサブタンク 2 0 b内 に配置されている。
さて、 前述したように尿素水の異常は、 例えば規格外の尿素水が 使用されたり、 或いは尿素水以外の液体が不正使用されたときに主 に生ずる。 一方、 機関運転時の N〇x浄化率は廉価な方法で検出す ることができる。 そこで本発明では、 尿素水タンク 2 0内に尿素水 が補充されたか否かを判断する尿素水補充判断手段と、 N O x浄化 率が許容レベル以下まで低下したか否かを判断する N〇x浄化率判 断手段とを具備しており、 尿素水タンク 2 0内に尿素水が補充され た直後の機関運転時に Ν〇 χ浄化率が許容レベル以下まで低下した と判断されたときには補充された尿素水が異常であると判定するよ うにしている
の場 α 本発明による実施例ではレベルセンサ 4 0により尿素 水夕ンク 2 0内の尿素水の液面レベルが検出され、 尿素水の液面レ ベルが予め定められた低レベル以下から上昇して予め定められた補 充完了レベルを越えたときに尿素水が補充されたと判断される。 次に尿素水を補充したか否かを判断するための尿素水補充判断ル 一チンについて図 4を参照しつつ説明する。 図 4に示される例では 尿素水タンク 2 0内の液面レベルが予め定められた低いレベルより も低下したときにレベルセンサ 4 0の出力信号に基づいて低レベル フラグがセッ 卜されるように構成されており、 ステップ 6 0ではこ の低レベルフラグがセッ 卜されているか否かが判別される。 低レべ ルフラグがセッ 卜されているときにはステップ 6 1に進んでレベル センサ 4 0 により液面レベルが、 補充が完了したと推定される補充 完了レベル S Xを越えたか否かが判別される。 液面レベルが補充完 了レベル S Xを越えたときにはステップ 6 2に進む。 即ち、 低レべ
ルであった液面レベルが補充完了レベルを越えるまで上昇したとき にはその間に尿素水が補充されたと考えられるのでステップ 6 2に 進み、 尿素水が補充されたと判断される。
図 5は機関の運転が開始されると実行される尿素水の異常判定ル —チンを示している。
図 5を参照するとまず初めにステップ 7 0において図 4に示すル 一チンによる判断結果に基づいて尿素水が補充されたか否かが判別 される。 尿素水が補充されたときにはステップ 7 1 に進んで N〇x センサ 4 1 により排気ガス中の NOx濃度が検出される。
例えば規格外の濃度の低い尿素水が補充されたり、 或いは尿素水 以外の還元力の弱い液体が補充されると NOx選択還元触媒 1 5に おける N O x浄化率が低下するために N〇 xセンサ 4 1 に導びかれる 排気ガス中の N〇x濃度が高くなる。 従って本発明による実施例で は N〇xセンサ 4 1の検出値から N〇x浄化率が予め定められた許容 レベル R X以下になったと判断されたときに尿素水が異常であると 判断される。
もう少し詳細に説明すると本発明による実施例では機関から単位 時間当り排出される N〇x量 NO XAが機関の出力 トルク T Qおよ び機関回転数 Nの関数として図 6 に示すようなマップの形で予め R OM 3 2内に記憶されており、 ステップ 7 1 において NOxセンサ 4 1 により N〇x濃度が検出されると図 3 に示されるマップから算 出された機関からの排出 N〇x量 NO XAと、 N〇xセンサ 4 1 によ り検出された NOx濃度および吸入空気量から算出された N〇x選択 還元触媒 1 5からの流出 NOx量から N〇x選択還元触媒 1 5による N〇x浄化率が算出される。
N O x浄化率が算出されるとステップ 7 2において N〇 x浄化率が 許容レベル R X以下になったか否かが判別される。 このとき N O x
浄化率≥ R Xであればステップ 7 3に進んで尿素水は正常であると 判断され、 このとき N O x浄化率ぐ R Xである場合にはステップ 7 4に進んで尿素水が異常であると判断される。 このようにして尿素 水が異常であるか否かが検出される。
刖; id したように本 明では補充すべき尿素水がサブタンク 2 0 b 内に供給される のときサブタンク 2 0 b内に補充前の尿素水が 多少残留していたとしてもこの残留尿素水は補充された尿素水によ り連通穴 5 2 を通つてメインタンク 2 0 a内に押し出される。 その 結果、 サブ夕ンク 2 0 b内は補充後の尿素水で満たされることにな る。 従って N O xセンサ 4 1の出力値から尿素水の異常判定が行わ れるときには補充後の尿素水が尿素水供給弁 1 7から供給されるこ とになり、 斯く して補充後の尿素水が異常であるか否かを確実に判 断できることになる
また、 サブ夕ンク 2 0 b内の尿素水は連通穴 5 2 を介して小量ず つしかメイン夕ンク 2 0 a内に流出しないので尿素水の補充作用が 行われているとさにはサブ夕ンク 2 0 b内の液面がメインタンク 2
0 a内の液面よりち高くなる 。 即ち、 尿素水の補充量がそれほど多 くなくてもサブ夕ンク 2 0 b内の液面が高くなる。 従って図 3に示 されるようにレベルセンサ 4 0をサブタンク 2 0 b内に配置した場 合には尿素水の補充量がそれほど多くないときでもレベルセンサ 4 0によって尿素水が補充されたことを検出することができるという 利点がある。
Claims
1 . 機関排気通路内に N〇x選択還元触媒を配置し、 尿素水タン ク内に貯留された尿素水を尿素水供給弁から該 N O x選択還元触媒 に供給して該尿素水から発生するアンモニアにより排気ガス中に含 まれる N O xを選択的に還元するようにした内燃機関の排気浄化装 請
置において、 上記尿素水タンクをメイ ンタンクと、 メイ ンタンク内 に配置されかつメイ ンタンクより も小型でメイ ンタンク内に連通す るサブタンクとにより構成し、 該サブタンク内の尿素水を尿素水供 給弁に送り込むと共に尿素水タンク内 As範1に尿素水を補充すべきときに はサブタンク内に尿素水が補充され、 尿素囲水タンク内に尿素水が補 充されたか否かを判断する尿素水補充判断手段と、 N O x浄化率が 許容レベル以下まで低下したか否かを判断する N〇x浄化率判断手 段とを具備しており、 尿素水タンク内に尿素水が補充された直後の 機関運転時に N O x浄化率が許容レベル以下まで低下したと判断さ れたときには補充された尿素水が異常であると判定される内燃機関 の排気浄化装置。
2 . 上記メイ ンタンク内においてメイ ンタンク内の底部から上方 に延びる筒状体内に上記サブタンクが形成されており、 尿素水供給 弁に送り込まれる尿素水の取入口がサブタンク内の底部に配置され ている請求項 1 に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
3 . 上記サブタンク内はサブタンクの底部に形成された連通穴を 介してメイ ンタンク内に連通せしめられている請求項 2 に記載の内 燃機関の排気浄化装置。
4 . 上記メイ ンタンク内に尿素水を補充するための尿素水補充管 が上記サブタンク内に向けて開口している請求項 2 に記載の内燃機 関の排気浄化装置。
5 . 尿素水タンク内の尿素水の液面レベルを検出し、 尿素水の液 面レベルが予め定められた低レベル以下から上昇して予め定められ た補充完了レベルを越えたときに尿素水が補充されたと判断される 請求項 1 に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化
6 . 尿素水の液面レベルを検出するためのレべルセンサが上記サ ブタンク内に配置されている請求項 5 に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化
