Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a device for imaging the ocular fundus or a section thereof. On the one hand, it can be used for the ophthalmological examination of the ocular fundus and, on the other hand, for the identification of a person on the basis of structures of the ocular fundus, preferably the course of blood vessels.
  • fundus cameras are used to image the fundus (fundus oculi).
  • light must enter the eye through the narrow pupil of the eye and, on the other hand, the light reflected from the fundus of the eye must be registered by means of a recording camera.
  • the illumination path and the receiving path must be guided locally separately, otherwise the light reflected from the cornea and the eye lens outshines the light reflected from the fundus.
  • the pupil diameter of the eye is only a few millimeters
  • the division of the illumination and exposure path is a decisive factor for the quality of the images obtained. Furthermore, this division is crucial for the tolerance against lateral displacement of the recording device relative to the optical axis of the eye.
  • the illumination and imaging beam path is typically made coaxial, e.g. the circular surface of the pupil is divided into an outer annular surface (1) for illumination and a circular central surface (2) for the reception.
  • this coaxial division of the available pupil opening requires that the eye with respect to the optical axis of the Imaging device must be positioned very accurately. This is especially important if the image is to be taken without any dilatation of the pupil, since then the pupil diameter can be less than 4 mm. If the pupil diameter is small, the illumination ring must be positioned exactly centrically in the pupil, otherwise only part of the light will be in the eye and the image will be correspondingly less bright or even unusable. This lateral offset also allows reflexes from the cornea to enter the camera and outshine the light from the fundus.

  • the displacement tolerance is much smaller: If in the center enough space for an imaging beam path (2) should remain at least 1 mm in diameter and because in practice the width of the ring can not be made arbitrarily small diameter of the outer lighting ring (1) amount to a minimum of about 3mm. The displacement tolerance is only about 1 mm in this example. It is a further feature of the invention that the illumination beam path (11) can be arranged such that after the beam splitter (5) the illumination beam path to the imaging beam path (12) is slightly tilted and / or laterally offset.
  • the unavoidable light reflection from the cornea does not get into the recording camera (8) and, on the other hand, that only a peripheral part of the fundus of the eye is illuminated.
  • the latter can be advantageous for reducing the glare effect, if - as for example for the purpose of identifying a person - only the environment of the optic nerve should be imaged.
  • the illuminated area can additionally be reduced by means of an aperture introduced into the illumination beam path. It is a further advantage of the invention that from the surface of the pupil (11) only a small, point-shaped part (9) has to be used for the illumination beam path and the remainder of the surface is available for the light exit.
  • the invention-based division of the pupil is brighter than a coaxial beam path.
  • the device is positioned so that the illumination point is e.g. in the lower half of the pupil comes to rest and the upper area for the light emission or the image is available.
  • any distortions caused by the spectacle lens are less pronounced in the case of point illumination than in the case of ring illumination.
  • the reason for this is the smaller extent of the light spot compared to a lighting ring.
  • the device is intended to record images of the ocular fundus without drug dilation of the pupil.
  • the intensity of the illumination should be as small as possible, so that the pupil reflex is not triggered, which reduces the pupil diameter by contracting the iris (10a). Also for this reason is one the largest possible area of the receiving path advantageous.
  • the dazzling effect can be additionally reduced by switching on the illumination only for a short time, typically 10-20ms.
  • a highlighter can be superimposed on another beam splitter (13) and a lens (14), which specifies the viewing direction of the eye to be examined and facilitates fixation.

  • the highlighter can also be switched off.
  • the point light source via the lens (4) is converted into a parallel beam and deflected via the beam splitter (5) partially in the direction of the eye.
  • the ophthalmic lens (6) focuses this parallel beam on the cornea (7) of the eye (16). Inside the eye, the focused beam focusses and illuminates a larger part of the fundus.
  • the reflected light from the fundus is converted by the ophthalmic lens (6) into a parallel beam, passes through the beam splitter and is projected by the lens (8a) onto the CCD chip of the imaging camera (8).
