Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To provide a wall type friction damper which can directly utilize a horizontal displacement between upper and lower beams in each story of a high rise building caused by disturbances such as earthquake and wind, which has a simple structure, and in which a reduction in pressing force acting on friction surfaces is minimized to maintain an initial friction damping force. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A wall type friction damper (1) comprises movable plates (11, 13, 15) having long holes that are arranged at predetermined intervals in the horizontal and vertical directions so as to extend in the horizontal direction and vertically standing from a lower member (3); fixed plates (4, 6, 8) having round holes that are prepared at positions that face the positions of the long holes arranged in the movable plates and vertically extending from an upper member (2); friction members sandwiched between the movable plates and the fixed plates and consisting of slip materials (25) and mating materials (26); PC steel rods (31) penetrating the long holes provided in the movable plates and the round holes prepared in the fixed plates so as to face the long holes; and fastening nuts (32). The slip materials and the mating materials of the friction members perform frictional sliding by relative horizontal deformation of the upper and lower members.
