Abstract

【課題】シールの密封性能の向上を図り、軸受性能を長期間に亘って維持することができる車輪用軸受装置を提供する。 【解決手段】外方部材3のアウター側の端部にバックアップシール16が装着され、このバックアップシール16が、外方部材3の端部外周に圧入される円筒状の芯金14と、この芯金14に一体に加硫接着されたシール部材17とからなると共に、シール部材17が、径方向外方に傾斜して延び、先端部が拡径するラッパ状に形成されて車輪取付フランジ6のインナー側の側面6cに摺接されたサイドリップ15bを有し、このサイドリップ15bの基部17aが芯金14のインナー側の端部を覆うように固着されているので、車輪取付フランジ6と外方部材3が近接した構造であっても、シール部材17のスペースを充分に確保することができ、サイドリップ15bの適切な接触圧を有する最適設計ができる。
