Abstract

 石英ガラスからなるクラッドを備え、前記クラッド部は、中心軸上に形成され光を伝搬するコア空孔と、前記コア空孔の周囲に三角格子を形成するように配置された格子形成空孔とを有するフォトニックバンドギャップファイバであって、前記格子形成空孔は、前記三角格子の格子定数をΛとすると、Λは2.1μm以下であり、フォトニックバンドギャップの中心波長を含む所定の波長範囲において閉じ込め損失が散乱損失よりも小さい。これによって、紫外~可視領域の光を低損失で導波できるフォトニックバンドギャップファイバを提供する。
