Abstract

Laying soldier courses of bricks requires a high degree of skill because a brick placed on its end on a layer of mortar can easily become displaced from the vertical position. A highly skilled bricklayer can avoid this problem but it takes patience and time to do so. The invention solves the problem using a temporary guide having rails (1) joined by rungs (2) in a manner similar to a ladder. The guide is supported where a front face is to be defined and the bricks are then laid using the rails (1) to position the top and bottom edges of the bricks and using the rungs (2) to judge the position of the bricks.
