Abstract

　ＶＡモードの液晶表示装置であって、一対の垂直配向膜３２ａ、３２ｂの液晶層側の表面のそれぞれに形成された光重合物から構成される一対の配向維持層３４ａ、３４ｂと、対向電極にのみ設けられた十字形状の開口部２２ａを有する。液晶層に所定の電圧を印加したとき、４つの液晶ドメインが形成され、各液晶ドメインのディレクタの方位は互いに異なり、且つ、一対の偏光板の偏光軸に対して略４５度をなす。液晶層に電圧を印加していないとき、４つの液晶ドメインのそれぞれに対応する領域の液晶分子は、配向維持層３４ａ、３４ｂによってプレチルト方位が規定されている。
