Abstract

この発明の目的は、絶縁導体を備え、波長が220nm以下の紫外線を放射する放電灯において、前記絶縁導体の絶縁体からのハロゲン化物の発生を抑制することである。この発明の放電灯は、石英ガラス管(31)と、その両端に配置された一対の電極(32a、32b)と、前記石英ガラス管の外壁に沿って延びる絶縁導体(38)とを備え、前記絶縁導体は、非ハロゲン系の絶縁体で被覆されている。そのため、前記絶縁導体に紫外線が照射されても、安全及び環境保全上の問題となるハロゲン化物が発生しない。特に、主鎖中に芳香環又は複素環を有する高分子化合物を絶縁体として使用すると、劣化に対する耐性が改善される。
