Abstract
多チャンネル化しても小型化が可能で、光損失の少ない双方向光パワーモニターを開示する。双方向光パワーモニターは2本の光ファイバーを持ち、それらのコアの光軸をオフセットさせて対向してコア端面同士を融着させていて、光ファイバーの一方のコア端面の一部分が融着部で他方のコア端面からオフセットして突出している。U溝が2本の光ファイバーそれぞれのクラッド層に設けられて、U溝の側面がコア端面の突出した部分に対向している。U溝内に設けられている光ダイオードが、一方の光ファイバーのコア端面から他方の光ファイバーのクラッド層内に漏洩した光の3次もしくは4次の強め合った光を検出する。この双方向光パワーモニターは、一方の光ファイバーから他方へ伝播する光信号と、他方から一方へ伝播する光信号をともに小さい光伝播損失で測定することができる。
