Abstract

　本発明は、視野角が改善され、更に斜め４５度方向から見た時のカラーシフトが良好なＩＰＳモード型液晶表示装置を提供する。本発明の液晶表示装置は、第１偏光子と、第１基板と、液晶層と、第２基板と、第２偏光子がこの順に配置され、第１偏光子と第１基板の間に第１位相差層と第２位相差層が配置されているＩＰＳモード型液晶表示装置であって、第１位相差層が略負の一軸性であり、第２位相差層のレターデーションＲｏが５＜Ｒｏ≦１００ｎｍ、且つＲｔｈが１００＜Ｒｔｈ≦２００ｎｍであり、第１偏光子の吸収軸と液晶層のラビング方向が直交しており、第１位相差層と第２位相差層のうち、第１基板に近い側の位相差層の遅相軸が液晶層のラビング方向と実質的に平行であり、第１位相差層と第２位相差層のうち、第１偏光子に近い側の位相差層の遅相軸が第１偏光子の吸収軸と実質的に平行であることを特徴とする。
