Abstract

本発明の高分子電解質形燃料電池は、電解質層-電極接合体(8)と、燃料ガス流路(13)が形成されたアノードセパレータ(11)と、酸化剤ガス流路(12)が形成されたカソードセパレータ(10)と、を備え、燃料ガス流路(13)と酸化剤ガス流路(12)には、低加湿の反応ガスが供給され、カソードガス拡散層(3)の酸化剤ガス流路(12)の最上流部分を含む部分である上流部分と対向する部分(以下、カソードガス拡散層上流領域)の親水性が、アノードガス拡散層(6)のカソードガス拡散層上流領域(3a)と対向する部分(以下、アノードガス拡散層上流対向領域)の親水性を当該アノードガス拡散層上流対向領域の全領域に亘ってカソードガス拡散層上流領域の親水性よりも高くすることにより、アノードガス拡散層上流対向領域の親水性よりも低くなるように構成されている。
