Abstract

 非磁性基板上に、少なくとも軟磁性下地層と垂直磁気記録層と保護層を有する垂直磁気記録媒体において、垂直磁気記録層を、主記録層と非磁性中間層と補助層から構成し、主記録層を、磁性結晶粒子とそれを取り囲む粒界領域を有し、かつ垂直磁気異方性を有する材料から構成し、補助層を、負の結晶磁気異方性を有する材料から構成し、非磁性中間層を、主記録層と補助層の間に形成し、Ru,Rh,Irから選択される少なくとも一種の金属または合金から構成する。この磁気記録媒体は、良好な熱安定性と良好な記録・再生特性を有し、高密度記録が可能である。
