 画像信号を表示可能な階調数に制限するとともに制限により発生した誤差データを周辺の画素に拡散する誤差拡散回路(120)を備えた画像表示装置において、前記誤差拡散回路(120)は、前記画像信号の所定の期間にタイミング発生部(70)から出力される誤差挿げ替え信号に基づいて、前記誤差データをあらかじめ定められた固定値データに挿げ替える誤差挿げ替え部(60)を備える。
