Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To recover diamond microparticles of 20 nm or less D50-value particle diameter according to UPA150 as micropowder of particles sorted with high precision. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Diamond micropowder is trapped by the method including the steps of: (1) rendering hydrophilic the surface of micropowder containing diamond particles of 50 nm or less primary particle diameter by effecting bonding or adhesion of a hydrophilic functional group to the surface of the diamond particles; (2) dispersing the diamond with hydrophilic surface in water to thereby obtain a slurry; (3) subjecting the slurry to ultracentrifugal separation operation at an acceleration of 4×103 G or greater and at a product of acceleration multiplied by centrifugal force load time (referred to as “centrifugal load product”) of 200×103 Gxmin or greater (G meaning the acceleration of gravity) to thereby spin down particles of relatively large diameter and separate the same; and (4) adding a positive ion to the slurry to thereby trap microparticles suspended in the slurry.
