Abstract

 高輝度・薄型で光の利用効率が高い低消費電力の液晶表示装置を提供する。  液晶表示装置10は、液晶表示パネル11と、液晶表示パネル11のR、G、B画素33R、33G、33Bで構成されるRGB画素33の配置に対応して設けたレンズアレイ26と、レンズアレイ26のそれぞれのレンズ34に対して一定で、かつ色ごとに異なる入射角度で入射させる面状照明装置15と、を備えている。この面状照明装置15はR、G、B光12、13、14を出射するレーザ光源と、R、G、B光12、13、14を一方の主面23からそれぞれ異なる出射角度で出射する導光板24を含んでいる。そして、導光板24から出射するR、G、B光12、13、14は、レンズ34により集光されて対応する各画素に対して、それぞれR、G、B光12、13、14の光量が増加して入射する。
