Abstract

 複数の表示エリアを液晶パネル(表示部)(3)に設けるとともに、複数の表示エリアに対して、発光ダイオード(光源)(4)の光をそれぞれ入射させる複数の照明エリアをバックライト装置(バックライト部)(2)に設定する。さらに、入力された画像信号を用いて、複数の各照明エリアから対応する表示エリアに入射される光の輝度値を決定し、かつ、照明エリア毎に、周囲の照明エリアの輝度値を用いて、決定した輝度値を補正して、補正後の輝度値に基づいてバックライト装置(2)の駆動制御を行うバックライト制御部(15)を設ける。
