Le capot latéral est une structure simple capable de fermer le carter du moteur diesel vertical et de recueillir de l'air de refroidissement refroidissant le capot de cylindre, le corps de cylindre et le carter d'huile du moteur diesel vertical afin de refroidir la chambre de combustion et le tuyau d'échappement. Il est ainsi possible de refroidir progressivement les parties chauffées du moteur.
