Description

BICYCLE WITH BRIDGE-PIECE CONNECTING THE FRONT AND REAR PARTS OF THE FRAME
Description
The present invention relates to a bicycle with a bridge-piece connecting the front and rear parts of the frame .
Various examples of bicycle designs are known in the technical sector of vehicles, said designs always comprising: two wheels respectively joined to a front fork, able to be oriented by means of the handlebars, and to a rear fixed fork, the hub of which also has, connected thereto, the pinion for driving the chain for transmission of the movement produced by operation of the pedals, the forks being in turn joined to a frame which constrains and rigidifies the assembly.
It is also known that conventional frames oblige the cyclist to mount/dismount the bike by passing one leg over the frame itself and, in order to limit the difficulties of this movement, so-called "women's bicycles" have also been developed, these having a horizontal frame part which is much lower in the middle zone between the two wheels so as to make mounting/dismounting easier.
Although these bicycles fulfil their function they have the drawback that they require a mounting/dismounting movement onto/from the bicycle which is still difficult and disadvantageous for certain categories of users. The technical problem which is posed, therefore, is to provide a bicycle with a frame such as to allow mounting/dismounting of the user without the need to perform a more or less pronounced leg raising movement over the frame of the bicycle, so as to make it much easier and comfortable to sit on the saddle of the bicycle and rest one's foot on the ground when at a standstill. In connection with this problem it is also required that the bicycle should have compact dimensions, be easy and inexpensive to produce and assemble and be able to be used easily by any user. These results are achieved according to the present invention by a bicycle comprising a front wheel which is joined to a fork connected to the handlebars by means of a stem forming the front part of a frame, the rear part of which consists of a substantially vertical tube which supports a fixed fork, on the hub of which the rear wheel rotates, there being envisaged a bridge- piece connecting together the two parts, i.e. front part and rear part, of the frame. Further details may be obtained from the following description of a non-limiting example of embodiment of the subject of the present invention provided with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a bicycle according to the present invention; - Figure 2 shows a view similar to that of Fig. 1 with the cyclist seated;
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a second embodiment of the bicycle according to the present invention; and - Figure 4 shows a perspective view of a third embodiment of the bicycle according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 1 and assuming solely for the sake of convenience of the description and without a limiting meaning a set of three reference axes in a longitudinal direction X-X, transverse direction Y-Y and vertical direction Z-Z, respectively, the bicycle according to the present invention comprises essentially a front wheel 1 joined to a fork 11 connected to the handlebars 12 by means of a stem 31 forming the front part of a frame 30, the rear part 32 of which consists of a substantially vertical tube 32 which supports a fixed fork 22, on the hub of which the rear wheel 2 rotates; said rear part of the frame also supports the saddle 3 and the pedals 4 which are conventional per se.
The two parts of the frame 30, i.e. front part 31 and rear part 32, are connected together by means of an arched bridge-piece 35 which extends between the two parts with its convexity directed upwards and a curvature such as to pass above the cyclist (Fig. 2) using the bicycle.
The frame 30 is in this way made sufficiently rigid to ensure the stability and functionality of the bicycle, but does not form an obstacle for the cyclist who must use the bicycle; the cyclist may, in fact, sit on the saddle 3 by entering in between the front part 31 and rear part 32 of the frame 30 without the need to raise a leg over the frame, as in the case of the frames of the known art . Fig. 3 shows a second example of embodiment of the bicycle according to the present invention in which the bridge-piece 135 connecting together the front frame 31 and the rear frame 32 is formed by means of a "C" which lies in a substantially horizontal plane and the arms 135b of which parallel to the transverse direction Y-Y are respectively joined to the front stem 31 and to the rear tube 32.
In this case the cyclist is able to mount only on one side which may be determined during assembly also depending on whether the user is accustomed to mount from the right-hand or left-hand side.
According to this embodiment it is also envisaged that the two transverse arms 135b of the frame 130 are fastened to the longitudinal arm 135a by means of hinges 140 with a vertical axis which allow the bicycle - A -
to be folded up in order to reduce its dimensions. Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of the bicycle according to the invention in which the connecting bridge 235 is formed by means of two parts in the form of a C facing each other relative to the longitudinal direction X-X so as to form a safety cage; in this configuration it is envisaged that one or both the longitudinal branches 235a of the two facing Cs can be opened so as to allow the cyclist to enter inside/leave the cage.
It can therefore be understood how the bicycle according to the invention allows easy and convenient use by any user, without the need to pass one's leg over the frame, this being replaced by mounting/dismounting movements consisting essentially in an entry/exit movement between the two front and rear parts of the said frame.
