  • the primary exterior housing may provide an airflow path and uplift past said second mirror during forward motion of said vehicle.
  • the apparatus may include an auxiliary wind deflector to enhance said airflow.

  • the interior housing pod is specifically adapted for fitting to the interior of the vehicle 6 in a position generally corresponding with the familiar position of a rear view mirror fitted to the exterior 7 of a vehicle.
  • the second curved mirror is housed in a primary exterior housing 5 adapted for fitting to the exterior 7 of a vehicle and preferably to the exterior position of a vehicle door 13 in a position generally accepted as an industrial standard.
  • the forward view apparatus of the invention can be seen to be clearly made of a two component part for fitting independently and separately to the interior and exterior of a vehicle door but adapted to cooperate for transmission, of the visual image available for the driver or user whereby the image is transmitted from the first mirror to the second mirror via transmission through the vehicle window 8.
  • the combined optical effect of the first flat and second curved mirrors as mounted and configured by their respective housings provides the enhanced forward viewing angle of the apparatus of the invention allowing the driver to see forward and past objects positioned in front of the vehicle and thereby eliminating the normal blind spots encountered when facing an object forward of the driver's vehicle.
  • the apparatus of the invention preferably provides the second curved mirror as a fitted non-adjustable mirror preset and positioned in the primary exterior housing 5 whereby any adjustment needed for a specific driver is affected by adjustment of the first flat mirror from within the interior housing pod which is readily available for adjustment and manipulation by the driver.
  • the primary exterior housing may incorporate a secondary exterior housing 9 specifically adapted for housing a rear view mirror 10 such that the combined primary and secondary exterior housings provide the apparatus of the invention with both forward view and rear view facilities.
  • the secondary exterior housing may be fitted to the primary exterior housing via a pivot 11 allowing the rear view mirror to tilt and pivot in the usual manner accepted as a standard in vehicle manufacture.
  • the apparatus of the invention may also include the provision of an optional wind deflector 12 which has the purpose of enhancing the normal uplifted airflow path created by the vehicle in motion which ensures an airflow is directed over the second mirror at all times during vehicle motion so as to ensure the second mirror remains clean and relatively free of debris and contamination.
  • the optional wind deflector 12 functions to enhance the normal airflow path and further improve this facility of the invention.
  • the specific features and configuration of the apparatus of the invention provide a number of enhanced features where the separation of the first and second mirrors into interior and exterior housings, allows the apparatus of the invention to utilise the vehicle window whilst ensuring minimal interference with the adjustment of the mirrors by providing the first flat and adjustable mirror on the interior of the vehicle where it would be subject to minimal interference.
  • the provision of a separate and discrete interior housing pod on the interior of the vehicle's door serves the second and important function of attracting the eye of the driver such that the driver can readily and immediately have visual access to the forward view provisions of the apparatus of the invention in a manner that clearly and separately distinguishes the forward view mirror facility from the rear view mirror facility of the secondary exterior housing.
  • the interior housing pod may be colored or in any manner enhanced to provide the driver with an instant and recognisable source of the forward view image as distinct from the rear view image which, whilst being available from the "same" fully assembled apparatus, is nevertheless placed in a distinct and separate visual position.
  • the configuration of the invention ensures the driver looks to the interior pod for the forward view image and looks to the exterior housing for the rear view image.
  • Figure 2 shows the assembled apparatus of the invention which when fitted to the vehicle door 13, provides a visually seamless and integral unit where the vision path of the driver from the first to second mirrors passes through the vehicle window 8 in an uninterrupted path.
  • the apparatus of the invention can be adapted for placement forward of the window stile 14 at a suitable position in accordance with the door and window characteristics of the host vehicle.
  • the schematic view of the assembled apparatus provides an analogous view to that as shown in Figure 2 and clearly demonstrates the juxta position of the interior housing pod 3 and primary exterior housing 5 and the corresponding positioning and juxta position of the first mirror 2 and second mirror 4.
  • Figure 4 shows the pivoting facility and range of movement of the secondary exterior housing holding the rear view mirror in the convention manner.
  • the apparatus of the invention can be seen to fully incorporate the normal rear view mirror features as found on most vehicles without interference with the function of the forward view aspects and features of the apparatus.
  • Figure 5 demonstrates the apparatus of the invention as fitted to an SUV type vehicle where the additional angle of forward visibility can be clearly seen.
  • Figure 6 demonstrates the advantages of having the fixed second mirror 4 where the apparatus of the invention allows for ready fitting to both left and right hand sides of a vehicle without need for a different optics and adjustments of the second mirror.
  • the variation in light path required for left and right configurations is provided by adjustment of the first mirror 2 found in the interior housing pod 3.
  • FIG. 8 the airflow characteristics and features of the apparatus of the invention is shown where the airflow provided by motion of the vehicle and configuration of the primary exterior housing causes an uplift of air past the second mirror so as to ensure that mirror remains clean and free from debris and dirt.
  • the uplift can be further enhanced by incorporating a wind deflector 12.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un appareil de vision vers l'avant (1) pour un véhicule, ledit appareil fournissant une image visuelle d'un emplacement situé devant ledit appareil que l'utilisateur regarde. L'appareil comprend un premier miroir plat (2) logé dans une coque de boîtier intérieur (3) et un second miroir incurvé (4) logé dans un boîtier extérieur principal (5). La coque du boîtier intérieur est conçue pour s'adapter à l'intérieur du véhicule et le boîtier extérieur principal est conçu pour s'adapter à l'extérieur du véhicule de sorte que l'image visuelle avant, fournie par la coopération optique des premier et second miroirs, soit transmise par l'intermédiaire des premier et second miroirs tout en créant un pont sur tout espace physique situé entre la coque du boîtier intérieur et le boîtier extérieur principal.
