Definitions

  • Freelav covering floor tile especially designed for raised access floors and process used to obtain the said floor tile.
  • the present invention relates to a freelay covering floor tile especially designed for raised access floors.
  • the present invention also relates to the process used to obtain the said floor tile.
  • raised jccess floors are an excellent solution to improve design flexibility and simplify integration and modification of installations over time.
  • a raised access floor is generally composed of a bearing structure that comprises support columns with or without stringers, on which panels are laid; the said panels are either provided with coating or act as support for the free laying floor that is laid on the panels.
  • Free laying floors can be obtained with carpeting or PVC coatings, or with any other similar continuous, modular coverings.
  • Free laying modular coverings are very popular, being composed of floor tiles that are laid in adjacent position on the support panels of the bearing structure.
  • Carpet is among the most popular and appreciated freelay floor tiles, together with ceramic coverings, such as stoneware, although they are less diffused.
  • Ceramic floor tiles are impaired by planarity defects, such as rough and raised parts, due to production processes; additionally, they are slightly curved near the sides; thus causing the raise of lateral corners or the swelling of the central part.
  • planarity defects generate unpleasant noise when walking, if the ceramic tile is positioned in direct contact with the support panel below, which is generally made of wood or concrete and is often coated with metal materials.
  • the raised corners of the walking surface of the ceramic floor tile can be dangerous, because people may trip or be disturbed when walking.
  • PVC polyvinyl chloride
  • the PVC layer follows the shape of the covering tile, including the curved parts, and therefore, once it is laid, it does not fully solve the planarity problem, since the lateral sides of the ceramic floor tile tend to project upwards in case of upward concavity or to space the covering tile from the support panel in case of downward concavity.
  • cork layers are applied under the covering tile, which however fail to provide the same stable connection with the support panel coated with metal material ensure by magnetised PVC layers.
  • the main purpose of the present invention is to obtain a freelay covering floor tile especially designed for raised access floors, able to remedy the aforementioned inconveniences of covering tiles of known type.
  • another important purpose of the present invention is to provide a process used to obtain the said covering tile.
  • a further purpose of the present invention is to obtain a covering tile with walking surface characterised by better planarity, stability and strength compared to floors with freelay covering made of ceramic floor tile, stoneware or similar material, of known type.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a covering tile characterised by better absorption of the noise caused when walking compared to tiles of known type.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a freelay covering floor tile characterised by easy installation, also for non-expert users.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a covering tile that can be directly laid on rough floor or other free floor surfaces.
  • Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a covering floor tile especially designed for raised access floors, and a process used to obtain the said floor tile with known installations and technologies.
  • a freelay covering floor tile especially designed for raised access floors, characterised by the fact that it comprises a tile of ceramic, stoneware or similar material, either natural or recomposed, whose lower side is coupled with a protection layer used to absorb the vibrations caused by walking, being the said layer flattened, once it has been coupled with the said tile, to optimise the planarity and stability of the walking surface obtained by laying a plurality of the said floor tile in adjacent position.
  • a production process of a covering tile especially designed for raised access floors is characterised by the fact that it includes the following operations: coupling of a tile of ceramic, stone or similar material, either natural or recomposed, to a protection layer used to absorb the vibrations caused by walking, flattening or smoothening of the free side of the said layer to remove an adequate amount of material in such a way that the said floor tile, placed in adjacent position to other floor tiles of the same kind, defines a walking surface that is as planar as possible.
  • figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a floor tile of the invention before coupling the tile and the layer
  • figure 2 is a cross-sectional view of a floor tile of the invention during the first phase of the production ' process
  • figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a floor tile of the invention during the second phase of the production process
  • figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of a floor tile of the invention during the third phase of the production process
  • figure 5 is a cross-sectional view of a floor tile of the invention at the end of the production process
  • - figures 6 and 7 are cross-sectional views of a floor tile of the invention with a tile having a different configuration with respect to the previous figures.
  • a freelay covering floor tile especially designed .foe raised access floors is indicated with numeral 10.
  • the said floor tile 10 comprises a tile 11 of ceramic, stoneware or similar material, either natural or recomposed, whose lower side 12 is coupled to a protection layer 13 used to absorb the vibrations caused by walking,
  • the layer 13 is flattened to optimise the planarity and stability of the walking surface obtained by laying a plurality of the said floor tiles 10 in adjacent position.
  • the tile 11 is made of ceramic, while the layer 13 is selectively made of polyvinyl chloride, rubber, cork or any other technically equivalent material.
  • the protection layer 13 is selectively made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyethylene, polypropylene or any other equivalent plastic material.
  • the tile 11 and the protection layer 13 are matched by means of an adhesive layer or, alternatively, the protection layer 13 is adhesive and adheres directly to the tile 11.
  • a process according to the present invention used to obtain a freelay covering floor tile 10 as described above, especially designed for raised access floors comprises the following operations: coupling of the tile 11 of ceramic, stoneware or similar material, either natural or recomposed, to a protection layer 13 used to absorb the vibrations caused by walking, flattening or smoothening-of the free side 14 of the protection layer 13 to remove an adequate amount of material in such a way that the said floor tile 10, placed in adjacent position to other floor tiles 10 of the same kind, defines a walking surface that is as planar and stable as possible.
  • the tile 11 illustrated in the enclosed figures has a raised lateral corner 15 that represents a planarity defect of the tile 11 for illustrative purposes.
  • the broken linej,,6 indicates the removed quantity, according to the average thickness that must be obtained when production of a batch of floor tiles 10.
  • the new lower side of the floor tile 10, which is indicated with numeral 17 in figure 3, is flat and designed to be faced to the support panel of the bearing structure of the raised access floor, or directly on the rough floor.
  • the remaining protection layer indicated with numeral 13a in figures 3 to 5, has a suitable thickness in order to soften the noise caused by walking, being positioned in any point between the tile 11 and the support panel made of metal or other rigid material.
  • the process according to the present invention is completed by the following operations: tapering of floor tile 10 in such a way that the lateral sides 18 are tilted from above downwards with respect to the laying position, - applying of a perimeter edge trim 19 with finishing and protection purpose on the lateral sides 18 of the floor tile 10, chamfering of the upper perimeter corners 20 of the floor tile 10.
  • the inclination of the lateral sides 18 facilitates the layer and removal of floor tiles 10.
  • the perimeter edge trim 19 which is applied with glue or mechanically fixed, acts as finish and protection for the coupling between the tile 11 and the protection layer 13.
  • Fig. 4 the broken line indicates the chamfering lines 21, being this operation used to round off borders or corners with a grinding wheel or other tool.
  • thel/valking surface of the finished floor tile 10 has minor planarity defects, if any, compared to the original tile 11.
  • Figure 6 illustrates a second case of tile 111 with planarity defects.
  • the corners 115 tend to raise the tile 111 with respect to the support plane below, if they are directly laid on it without the interposition of the protection layer 113.
  • the presence of the layer 113 is not sufficient to determine the correct planarity of the lower side of the floor tile 110, since the layer 113 follows the profile of the tile 111 , with problems related to fragility and noise.
  • the protection layer 113 is flattened by the thickness indicated by the broken-line 116.
  • the walking surface 122 is basically convex
  • the lower side 117 of the floor tile 110 is flat and can be perfectly laid on the support plane below.
  • the invention provides a solution for the problems experienced in known types of freelay covering floor tiles, especially designed for raised access floors.
  • the present invention also relates to a production process used to obtain the said covering tile.
  • the present invention relates to a covering tile whose walking surface is characterised, by better planarity and stability than floors with freelay covering floor tiles made of ceramic, stoneware or similar material of known type.
  • the present invention provides a covering tile characterised by better absorption of the noise caused when walking compared to covering tiles of known type.
  • the present invention provides a freelay covering floor tile that is easy to lay also by non-expert users and can be directly laid on the rough floor rather than on the bearing structure of a raised access floor.
  • the present invention provides for a covering tile especially designed for raised access floors, and a production process used to obtain the said floor tile.
  • the materials used may be of any kind according to the specific requirements and state. of the art.
