Definitions
- the invention relates to an exterior wall insulation panel for thermal insulation and renovation purposes.
- a clinker insulation panel is manufactured by sever German manufacturers under the name Isoklinker, Thermoklinker, Gerbik, etc. comprising a clinker surface layer and a foamed polyurethane isolation layer. To minimize the cost of the product the density of foamed polyurethane has been brought down to minimum.
- the panels are mounted on a surface that provides full contact all over the bottom surface of the panel.
- Such exterior wall panel can be efficiently used when the mounting surface is very even, but its use is problematic in renovation work because there are no necessary straight, even and leveled wall surfaces. When mounted on a carcass the bending strength of the panel is insufficient up to the point of breaking.
- an exterior wall insulation panel that comprises a finishing surface layer, a foamed polyurethane insulation layer and a reinforcement layer that is either a more rigid foamed polyurethane layer or a mineral fiber layer.
- the problem here is the conflict between the strength that depends on the density of foamed polyurethane, and the significantly higher cost due to this.
- an exterior wall insulation panel that comprises a surface layer, a foamed polyurethane insulation layer and a reinforcement layer.
- the insulation layer contains pre-foamed foamed polystyrene with beads surrounded and bound by foamed polyurethane, with a glass fiber mesh support layer.
- This panel has excellent wind screening properties, but concerning vapor pass through, under certain conditions when the vapor pass through requirements are very high, the panel may not meet the criteria. Leaving an air gap between the panel and wall will reduce the thermal efficiency of the panel while requiring the use of additional mounting elements that will increase construction costs.
- the aim of the invention is to find an exterior wall panel structure that provides sufficient vapor pass through capacity while maintaining high bending strength, good insulating properties. This aim is reached in an exterior wall panel comprising a surface layer, insulation layer and glass fiber mesh reinforcement layer, where the insulation layer between surface layer and reinforcement layer contains pre-foamed foamed polystyrene with beads . surrounded and bound by foamed polyurethane, whereas reinforcement layer is flanked by further foamed polystyrene insulation layer the outer surface of which contains air channels that extend from the lower edge of the panel to the upper edge. The air channels perform the function of air gap between the exterior wall insulation panel and the mounting surface.
- the air channels are preferably implemented with details that change direction on the vertical plane.
- the air channels can be provided meander shape.
- the suggested ratio between the width of the air channels and the thickness of the panel is 0,25 to 1,0, preferably 0,5. It is also suggested that the ratio between the depth of air channels and the thickness of the wall panel be 0,15 to 0,40, preferably 0,25.
- Fig. 1 is the cross-section of the exterior wall panel.
- Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back side of the insulation layer of a possible embodiment of air channel.
- the exterior wall insulation panel comprises surface layer 1, insulation layer 2 and reinforcement layer 3.
- the surface layer 1 can be made of very different materials, e.g. ceramic plates, clinker plates, sand-lime brick plates, cement fiber plates, slabs of natural stone, etc. There are cemented joints between the plates.
- the mineral surface layer of the plates provides sufficient strength, making them weather and fire proof.
- the choice of surface material must involve consideration that the insulation layer must be protected from direct ultra-violet radiation and that breathing of the material must be possible.
- the insulation layer 2 of the panel contains of two parts separated by glass fiber mesh reinforcement layer 3.
- the part 2a of the insulation layer 2 located between the surface layer 1 and the reinforcement layer 3 has been made from a mixture of foamed polystyrene and foamed polyurethane 4 so that pre-foamed beads 5 of polystyrene are surrounded and bound by foamed polyurethane 4.
- the insulation layer 6 is made of foamed polystyrene.
- air channels 8 are located extending from the lower edge of the panel to the upper edge, comprised of vertical parts 9 and horizontal parts 10. The horizontal parts significantly slow down the air flow in a manner sufficient to lead vapor out of the plate without causing significant heat loss.
- the tongue and groove joint between the panels and the silicone adhesive or assembly foam allow hermetic joints and the panel acts as a wind screen panel.
- the elasticity of foamed polyurethane allows movement between panels, so that this insulation method does not necessitate use of deformation joints.
