Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for displaying a data window on a display device of a data processing device, in which the following steps are carried out: a first data window is displayed on the display device; a second data window is opened on the display device, wherein the second data window at least partially covers the first data window.
- the invention also relates to a computer program product and a data processing device with a display device.
- Window-based representation here means that a separate data window is reserved for each program or part of a program and the data windows are displayed one above the other or next to one another on the display device
- Window-based display is, for example, provided by the operating system
- a Windows-based display of programs or program parts is also used in data processing equipment, for example, in control centers of automated processes such as chemical or process engineering processes or in network control centers of electrical energy supply networks
- some data windows may provide a graphical overview of the auto- while other data windows display error and event messages indicating the state of the power grid. Just such event and error messages are extremely important information for the operator in the network control center, which should have the operator as fully as possible in view.
- the invention has for its object to make the monitoring and control of operations using programs displayed in window-based display safer.
- a method of the abovementioned type is proposed according to the invention, in which the second data window is displayed transparently at least in those partial areas with which it covers the first data window. Due to the at least partially transparent representation of the second data window, the viewer of the display device can have both the content of the first and the second data window in view. A complete covering of security-relevant information displayed in the first data window by the second data window is therefore prevented in a secure manner.
- An advantageous embodiment of the inventive method provides that the degree of transparency of the second data window depending on a position of a positionable by means of an input device of the data processing device pointer is selected such that when positioned on the first data window pointer the second data window is displayed transparently and is not displayed transparently in the case of a pointer positioned on the second data window.
- the viewer of the display device has the ability to both the second data window, so for example a pop-up window to look closer, as well as to be able to view the information on the first data window. For this purpose, he must, for example, merely navigate a mouse pointer on the display device in such a way that it is positioned either on the first or second data window.
- the first data window is displayed transparently even if the pointer has been positioned on this data window for the first time. In this way, it is excluded that in the event that the pointer is accidentally positioned at the time on the second data window to which it is opened, this would automatically render the second data window non-transparent and thus the information to a data window located behind it could not be seen.
- the position of the pointer initially does not matter; only if the user first positions the pointer on the first data window and then moves back to the second data window, this second data window is not displayed transparently.
- a further advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention also provides that upon actuation of a predetermined switching element of the data processing device, the degree of transparency of the second data window is changed.
- the degree of transparency of the second data window can be changed in accordance with the observer's preference.
- the above-mentioned object is also achieved by a corresponding computer program product for carrying out the method according to one of the claims 1 to 4.
- the above-mentioned object is also achieved by a data processing device having a display device on which a first and a second data window are displayed, wherein the second data window at least partially covers the first data window and wherein the second data window is transparent at least in those partial areas with which it covers the first data window.
- a data processing device designed in this way can also be used to ensure that information displayed on the first data window is not concealed by opening the second data window.
- the data processing device may for example be part of a control center installation of an electrical energy supply network.

- FIG. 1 describes the display of data windows according to the prior art.
- 1 shows a display device 1, for example the monitor of a data processing device, on which a first data window 2 is displayed.
- the first data window 2 comprises, as known from conventional programs for personal computers, a control bar 3 with control symbols 4 for controlling the display settings of the first data window 2 and a data display area 5.
- a control bar 3 with control symbols 4 for controlling the display settings of the first data window 2
- a data display area 5 In the data display area 5, only symbolically represented information 6 is displayed in several lines in FIG.
- data display area 5 other than FIG. 1 data of arbitrary shape and content may be displayed.
- a second data window 7 is also shown.
- This second data window 7 has a similar structure with respect to its representation as the first data window 2 and again shows graphic symbols 8 ', which are shown only as examples, and are intended to represent the information displayed by the second data window 7.
- the second data window may be a so-called pop-up window which has been opened automatically by the data processing device in order to communicate information to the user of the data processing device. However, it may also be a data window that has been deliberately opened by the user of the data processing device.
- the first data window 2 is partially covered by a second data window 7. As a result, some of the information 6 on the first data window 2 are not recognizable.
- FIG. 2 again shows a first data window 2a on a display device 1a of a data processing device, not shown.
- This first data window 2a corresponds to the first data window 2 shown in FIG.
- a second data window 7a is opened in such a way that it lies in a partial area above the first data window 2a.
- the second data window 7a is displayed in a transparent representation, so that the operator of the data processing device can recognize both the content of the second data window 7a and the complete content of the first data window 2a. That means also the one
- Part of the information on the first data window 2a, over which the second data window 7a is located, is now visible to the user of the data processing device.
- security-relevant information in the first data window 2a is obscured by the second data window 7a and is not visible to the operator of the data processing device.
- the data processing device is, for example, a data processing device in a network control center of an electrical energy supply network and the information displayed in the first data window 2a is, for example, error or event messages about incidents in the electrical network Are energy supply network.
- the second data window 7a as shown in FIG.
- the operator of the data processing device can thus view the error messages and event messages despite the display of the second data window 7a.
- the information on the second data window 7a is also visible, which possibly also contains important information for the operator of the data processing device.
- the control of the transparency of the second data window is carried out with the aid of a computer program.
- the data processing device, in conjunction with the computer program, is capable of controlling the display of the data windows.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 show a possibility of controlling the display settings of the second data window 7a in a particularly convenient manner.
- a pointer 9 which can be positioned via an input device, such as a computer mouse, is shown.
- an input device such as a computer mouse
- the pointer 9 is located on a region of the first data window 2a and causes a transparent representation of the second data window 7a.
- the pointer 9 is located on a region of the first data window 2a and causes a transparent representation of the second data window 7a.
- the pointer 9 is positioned above the second data window 7a, thereby causing the second data window 7a to be displayed in a non-transparent representation.
- a way to tell what information he currently considers relevant If he wants to see the information on the first data window 2a, he positions the pointer 9 on this first data window 2a and the second data window 7a is displayed transparently. On the other hand, if he wishes to be able to more clearly recognize the information on the second data window 7a, he positions the pointer 9 on the second data window 7a, and this is displayed in a non-transparent manner.
- the second data window 7a is not displayed in a non-transparent representation until the pointer 9 for the second or further time on the second Data window 7a is positioned. In this way, it can be prevented that, in the event that the pointer 9 is accidentally positioned on the second data window 7a when it is opened, a non-transparent second data window 7a causes the information displayed on the first data window 2a to be automatically masked. In the event that the pointer 9 is already positioned on the latter when the second data window 7a is opened, the second data window 7a will initially also be displayed transparently.
- the user of the data processing device wants to be able to better recognize the information on the second data window 7a hereafter, he must first position the pointer 9 over the first data window 2a and then withdraw it to the second data window 7a. Only then is the second data window 7a displayed in a non-transparent representation.
- FIGS. 5 and 6 show a further possibility of how the representation of the second data window 7a can be easily controlled. However, this possibility can also be combined with the functionality as described with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4.
- an input device 10 in the form of a computer mouse is shown, which is connected to the data processing device in a manner not shown.
- the computer mouse 10 in addition to mouse buttons 11 and a switching element in the form of a so-called mouse wheel 12, which can be rotated up and down.
- the second data window 7a can be set less transparent. It can be seen in FIG. 5 that the second data window 7a is now shown almost completely untransparent.
- the transparency of the data window 7 can be increased so that this, as shown in Figure 6, is shown more transparent than in Figure 5. In this way, the transparency setting of the second data window 7a are continuously adjusted to the taste of the user of the data processing device.
- a switching element of a keyboard or other input device of the data processing device could be used.
- the transparency of the data window 7 could be controlled, for example, by cursor keys or up and down keys.
