Definitions
- the invention of the present patent application is encompassed within the procedures and machinery dedicated to bagging, with plastic, manufactured articles and in particular for bagging pillows to avoid deterioration or fouling during transport and handling.
- the invention is a method and a machine for automatic bagging of pillows using plastic tube, plastic tube being understood as a piece of flexible plastic of indefinite length having a hollow cylindrical configuration.
- Bagging machines that use two plastic reels bag the pillow between two separate layers of plastic, one upper and one lower provided each by a different plastic coil. Subsequently they proceed to the thermal welding of the four sides of the package formed by the lower layer of plastic, the pillow and the upper layer of plastic to, once finished, cut the excess material.
- These machines therefore, to bag a pillow need to make four welds and four cuts of material complicating the structure of the machine and obtaining a final bagging of worse resistance and worse quality than that obtained with the process and the machine of the present invention.
- the machines for bagging pillows that use a single plastic coil deposit the pillow on a plastic layer of sufficient length to later fold part of that layer on the upper face of the pillow such that this is between two layers of plastic forming a parallelepiped open on three sides. Subsequently they proceed to thermally seal the plastic through the three open edges, leaving the pillow enclosed in a bag that has therefore been constituted from a plastic coil.
- This type of bagging has the disadvantage that three welds and three cuts of excess material are needed to form a bag, which mainly entails in terms of machine complexity, processing time, quality of adjustment of the bag to the pillow and mainly robustness of the final bagging.
- the longitudinal axis of the machine is understood as the direction in which the feeding and transfer station of pillows, the carriage and the station for forming the bag.
- the transverse axis of the machine is understood as the one constituted by the direction, perpendicular to the previous one, in which the carriage and the compacting and sealing station of the bag are aligned with the pillow.
- the procedure of bagging pillows proposed by the present patent application consists in using a coil of plastic tube from which its free end is opened and, keeping it open on the claws of a car, a certain length of plastic tube is extracted of the coil, a heat welding is carried out at a distance from the free end slightly greater than the length of the pillow to be bagged, a cut is made along a line parallel to the weld and just where it ends in such a way that it is constituted a bag closed by one of its ends in which the pillow to be bagged is introduced which has been previously, and in a temporary way, compacted laterally in its longitudinal direction (the largest dimension) thanks to a transfer of parallel blades to facilitate thus its introduction in the bag. Finally, the bag is compacted with the pillow and closed.
- the procedure of bagging pillows is such that, when any of the different stations of the machine that execute the procedure he finishes his particular task corresponding to a certain cycle, prepares for the next cycle. In this way, for example, it is allowed that while a compaction and sealing of a bag with a pillow is being carried out at the same time a new pillow is being packed and another pillow may be being fed by the belt conveyor.
- the machine for automatic bagging of pillows that is capable of carrying out the procedure indicated above consists of a series of stations and elements that are integrated as a whole thanks to a chassis and a common control system.
- a pillow feeding and transfer station consisting of a belt conveyor and a parallel blade transfer.
- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the machine Figure 2; It represents a perspective view from the back of the machine.
- FIG 3 it is the same view of figure 1 in which, for clarity, the upper part of the chassis has been omitted.
- Figure 4 it represents an elevation of the machine in operation in which the carriage appears pulling the free end of the coil of plastic tube and the transfer with the pillow between its blades.
- Figure 5 It represents an elevation of the machine in the final stage of the process in which the bag with the pillow is appreciated before being compacted and with its open end placed on the thermal welding equipment.
- Figure 6 It represents a perspective view of the assembly formed by the transfer, the car and the guide bar.
- Figure 7 It represents a perspective view of the perforated and welding rods of the bag forming station.
- Figure 8 It represents a perspective view of the plastic tube feeding system from the plastic tube coil.
- Figure 9 It is a diagram in which you can see the path that the plastic tube follows from the coil to the exit of the last guide roller.
- the pillow bagging procedure proposed by the present patent application consists in using a plastic tube coil (20) from which its free end is opened and, keeping it open on the claws (31) (see figure 6) of a carriage (30), a certain length of plastic tube (26) (see figure 4) is removed from the coil, a heat welding is carried out at a distance from the free end slightly greater than the length of the pillow (1) to be bagged, A cut is made along a line parallel to the weld and just where it ends in such a way that a closed bag is constituted by one of its ends in which the pillow (1) to be bagged is inserted which has been previously , and in a temporary way, compacted laterally in its longitudinal direction (the one with the greatest dimension) thanks to a transfer (3) of parallel blades to facilitate its introduction into the bag.
- the automatic pillow bagging machine that operates according to the above procedure consists of the stations and elements specified below (see figures 1 to 4).
- a pillow feeding and transfer station a station for the formation of a bag from a plastic tube coil, a mobile carriage (30), a belt conveyor table (35) on one side of which is located the pillow feeding and transfer station and on the other side of which the bag forming station is located, the machine also has a bag compaction station filled with the pillow (1) and sealing the remaining open end . This last station is downstream of the bagging zone in the transverse direction of the machine.
- the machine also has a control system and a chassis (5) in which the above elements are mounted.
- the pillow feeding station has a belt conveyor (2) above which the transfer (3) of parallel blades runs.
- the transfer (3) is constituted by an upper plate (9) (see figure 6) on whose lower face, two L-pieces (8) are mounted in a movable way along the Y axis of the machine.
- the actuation of said L-pieces (8) is achieved thanks to a system (not shown in the drawings) of guides, pneumatic cylinders, pulleys and cable, which allows, when said pneumatic cylinders of the transfer (3) act, the displacement Transverse of each piece in L (8) with respect to the longitudinal axis of the machine is exactly the same, producing an opening or closing of the pieces in L (8), symmetrical with respect to the X axis of the machine.
- Said drive system is also located on the lower face of the upper plate (9) of the transfer (3).
- a shovel (13) is placed in each piece in L (8).
- Said blades (13) are flat and their mission is to capture and compact the pillow (1) and insert it into the plastic bag. Due to the structure of the transfer (3) explained above, said blades (13) approach or separate to capture or release the pillow (1). Obviously the length of said blades (13) must be at least the length of the largest pillow (1) intended to be bagged.
- the transfer (3) moves according to the longitudinal direction of the machine above the conveyor (2) and above part of the conveyor table (35) without touching them, and along a guide bar (34) of the which is suspended from the top by means of some pieces coupling (10).
- Said guide bar (34) is the same one from which the carriage (30) is suspended and through which it runs. Thanks to the use of the same guide bar for the two elements (carriage (30) and transfer (3)), a more compact design of the machine is achieved by reducing its size in the longitudinal dimension of the machine.
- the transfer of the transfer (3) is carried out by means of a motor and a belt.
- the carriage (30) (see figure 6) is constituted by an upper platform (36) to which they are coupled, in a movable way along the Y axis of the machine with two arms (38).
- Said arms (38) have a basic configuration of L and are mounted on a guide which is located on the lower face of the upper platform (36) of the carriage (30).
- the actuation of said arms is achieved thanks to a pneumatic cylinder system, pulleys and steel cable that allows, when said pneumatic cylinder acts, the transverse displacement of each arm (38) with respect to the longitudinal axis of the machine is exactly the same, producing an opening or closing, of the arms of the carriage, symmetrical with respect to the X axis of the machine.
- Said drive system (not shown in the drawings) is also located on the lower face of the upper platform (36) of the carriage (30).
- a claw (31) is placed whose outer face is coated with a non-slip material.
- Said claws (31) are C-shaped (and inverted C) and their mission is to capture the free end of the plastic tube coil inside.
- the carriage (30) has a tongue (37) that hangs c from a support, support that is movable according to the longitudinal direction of the machine thanks to the action of a cylinder without a rod (39).
- the tongue (37) is located under the upper platform (36) of the carriage (30) and between the two arms (38) thereof.
- the tongue (37) is articulated on its support allowing its pendular rotation from a practically horizontal position (parallel to the pillow (I)) to a practically vertical position (the one shown in the figures) not allowing it to rotate beyond the vertical .
- the tongue (37) rotates from a position practically vertical to another practically horizontal position allowing the introduction of the pillow (1) in the bag and again, thanks to its weight, to a practically vertical position when the pillow (1) has exceeded the tongue and is inserted into the bag .
- the blades (13) of the transfer (3) will open and the cylinder without rod (39) will be operated so that the tongue (37) pushes the pillow (1) to the bottom of the bag.
- This tongue (37) being practically upright also prevents the removal of the paddles (13) from the transfer (3), after depositing the pillow (1) in the bag, they drag the pillow (1) out of the bag.
- the carriage (30) moves linearly, according to the longitudinal direction of the machine, above the conveyor table (35) without touching it, and along the guide bar (34) mentioned above, from which it is suspended by its upper part by means of a suspension piece (33).
- the carriage (30) is moved by means of a servomotor and a belt.
- the bag forming station is located to the right of the conveyor table (35), just where it ends and has two parallel fixed bars, one of which is a perforated fixed bar (15) (see figure 7) and another it is a fixed bar electrically heated (17) and coated with Teflon, bars that cooperate with two other parallel bars, one of them is a perforated mobile bar (16) and another is a mobile bar electrically heated (18) and covered with Teflon, These last two rods in the vertical direction thanks to two pneumatic cylinders.
- the mission of the heated bars (17) and (18) is to perform thermal welding of the free end of the plastic tube coil and the mission of the perforated bars (15) and (16) is to open the end free of the plastic tube coil.
- a cutting blade (not shown in the drawings), driven by a cylinder without a rod, movable according to the transverse direction of the machine.
- a vacuum source is attached to the perforated bars (15) and (16).
- the thermal welding bars (17) and (18) perform the weld formed on the bottom of a new bag and the cutting blade is also actuated producing separation of the new bag of the rest of the plastic.
- the lifting of the movable bars (16) and (18) occurs, the formed bag and the free end of the plastic tube coil are released It is open between the two perforated bars (15) and (16) thanks to the suction created by the vacuum source.
- the plastic tube coil (20) of the bag forming station rests on two parallel support rollers (21) (see figures 8 and 9) located according to the Y direction of the machine, which are driven by an electric motor .
- the electric motor is powered by feeding plastic tube for the formation of the bags.
- the system has a series of guide rollers (22) that allow guiding the plastic tube from the coil to the thermal welding rods (17) and (18).
- the plastic tube on its way to the thermal welding rods (17) and (18), cooperates with an accumulation bar (27), a bar that is supported to the chassis (5) of the machine in a sliding way that can move freely in the vertical direction.
- this accumulation bar (27) The function of this accumulation bar (27) is to accumulate a reserve of plastic tube in such a way that, as will be explained later, when the carriage (30) pulls the free end of the plastic tube coil is not it is necessary that that quantity of plastic demanded be unwound from the coil at the precise moment of its demand, promoting better control and operation of the system. In this situation, the accumulation bar (27) will be dragged along the plastic tube giving a length of plastic tube equal to twice the distance traveled by the bar.
- the accumulation bar (27) When the accumulation bar (27) rises to a certain level, it will drive a limit switch by starting the motor of the support rollers (21) of the plastic tube coil, releasing plastic from the coil and causing the bar to descend to another limit switch at which the motor of the support rollers (21) of the plastic tube coil will be deactivated.
- the compaction station of the bag filled with the pillow (1) is constituted by a compaction platform (40) equipped, thanks to two pneumatic cylinders (41), with an up and down movement, platform of compaction (40) that when descending compacts the bag with pillow (1) when pressed against the conveyor table (35).
- Said compaction occurs in a progressive way thanks to the fact that the platform (40) descends in an inclined manner on the bag with the pillow (1) so that it begins by compacting the open end of the bag for, as the platform descends (40), go compacting the rest of the bag. This eliminates the air inside the bag and also prevents the formation of wrinkles in the bag.
- the sealing station of the remaining open end of the bag with the pillow (1) is located on one side of the conveyor table (35), beyond the belt of the conveyor table (35) and to its left, at the same distance of the carriage (30), according to the transverse axis, to which the compaction platform (40) is located.
- the sealing station is formed by a thermal welding equipment (42) arranged in a transverse direction to the machine composed of a fixed Teflon coated lower bar and which is heated thanks to an electrical resistance and an upper bar, operated by two pneumatic cylinders , which compresses the free end of the bag against the bottom bar for welding.
- the system also has a cutting blade, driven by a cylinder without a rod, capable of running in said transverse direction of the machine, a blade that cuts the excess material after welding the free end.
- the sealing station also has an air-blown system of the free end of the bag (not shown in the drawings) so that, at the same time that the bag is being compacted and before its sealing, said end is conveniently placed without no wrinkles on the lower thermal welding bar, thus improving the quality of the final work
- Bagging a pillow (1) begins with the formation of a bag.
- the free end of the plastic tube coil (20) is opened as explained above, then the carriage (30) advances to the position of the free end and opens its arms (38) with what it captures with the claws (31) the free end inside the plastic tube keeping it open.
- the carriage (30) goes backwards with what it unrolls, on the conveyor table (35), a certain length of the plastic tube (26) of the coil according to the length of the pillow (1) to be bagged (see figure 4) .
- a thermal welding is carried out at a distance from the free end slightly greater than the length of the pillow (1) to be bagged, a cut is made along a line parallel to the weld according to transverse direction and just where it ends in such a way that a closed bag is constituted by one of its ends.
- the pillow is fed (1) for which the pillow (1) is placed on the conveyor (2).
- Said conveyor (2) advances until the pillow (1) reaches the end of the same moment in which the transfer (3) is closed by compressing the pillow (1) in its longitudinal direction.
- the advance of the transfer (3) takes place along the guide bar (34) passing through the carriage (30), raising the tongue (37) and inserting the pillow (1) into the bag supported by it.
- the tongue (37) falls by its own weight
- the parallel bar transfer (3) releases the pillow (1) and the tongue (37) pushes the pillow (1) to the bottom of the bag at which the transfer recoil begins (3) avoiding the tab (37) the drag of the pillow (1).
- the arms (38) of the carriage (30) are closed and the car removed (with which the bag with the pillow (1) inside it is released on the conveyor table (35).
- the belt of the conveyor table (35) advances to the compaction and sealing station where the bag is compacted with the pillow (1) to extract the air from its interior and the free end is blown of the bag and its thermal welder by means of the thermal welding equipment (42) indicated above, at which time the cutting blade of the station removes the excess material.
- the pillow bagging machine set forth in the present patent application allows the bagging of pillows of very different sizes, for which it is provided that the length of the conveyor (2) and that of the transfer (3) and the width of the table Conveyor (35) and the compaction platform (40) is longer than the length of the longest pillow intended to be bagged.
- the machine automatically adjusts all operating parameters.
