Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for adapting a connection between a service provider and a communication device, in particular a mobile telephone, and a corresponding communication system.
- the access technologies for a communication device such as a mobile phone, for communication services such as telephony, messaging, streaming, broadcast services, etc. to access from service providers continue to increase.
- Service providers or network operators have a correspondingly increasing interest in influencing the decision as to which access technology will be used by the communication device. Because this decision has an influence on the usable services and their quality. The decision also affects the cost of providing these services.

- radio access networks must be organized or. to be able to.
- Future communication devices should also be able to access third generation communication networks and their services via a wireless local area network (WLAN) radio interface.
- WLAN wireless local area network
- the diversification of access technologies present in a communication device will continue to increase as the miniaturization and processor capabilities will continue to increase ("one device for all services") and as the communication terminals become more diversified ("one device for every service ").
- the access technologies are wireless technologies (UMTS, CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) 2000, WLAN, WiMax, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), Bluetooth, etc.) and corded technologies (Ethernet, USB (Universal Serial Bus etc.)). be .
- the invention is based on the idea that, on the service provider side, an access network and / or an access interface are selected in dependence on at least one service parameter, a corresponding selection command is transmitted to a terminal, and finally a change in the terminal for connection to the service provider the access interface used and / or a change of the access network used to connect to the service provider is triggered.
- the service provider may be a PLMN operator.
- the service provider can be represented technically by a corresponding switching system or a central computer connected to a (subscriber) database.
- the communication device in particular a mobile telephone, can be permanently assigned to a subscriber, who in turn can be subscribed to the service provider.
- the access network can be a radio access network with one or more base stations, which can be accessed via suitable te switching equipment and optionally via other communication networks may be connected to the service provider.
- the access network can also be part of a PLMN.
- At least one access interface is a radio access interface and an access network is a radio access network.
- the invention thus particularly describes a method for adapting a connection between a service provider and a mobile station, wherein a mobile station has a plurality of different radio access interfaces. About one of these radio access interfaces, the mobile station is connected via a network operator with a service provider.
- the service provider selects a network operator and / or a radio access interface depending on at least one service parameter.
- the service provider transmits a selection command to the mobile station via the radio access interface and via the network operator via which the mobile station is connected to the service provider, wherein the selection command in the mobile station changes the radio access interface used for the connection to the service provider and / or a change of the network operator used to connect to the service provider.
- information is transmitted from the mobile station to the service provider to transmit to the service provider connection capabilities, connection properties, radio access interface types, mobile station characteristics, mobile station capabilities, mobile station type, or the like.
- This information can For example, be transmitted by a Generic User Profile (GUP) - Protocol or a Device Management Protocol.

- service parameters are also referred to as service parameters in the context of the application.
- service parameters are also the following:
- Subscriber Subscriber Features for example, permission to transfer data, high-quality voice, low-quality voice, preferred customer, etc;
- the service provider and / or the operator of the access network receives additional information about the current location of the mobile station by means of a suitable method known per se.
- the service provider and / or the operator of the access network can then evaluate properties and / or capabilities of the mobile station, in particular in combination with said location information.
- the service providers can obtain a list of preferred radio access interfaces and / or a preferred access network operator or service provider. select a preferred access network for each individual radio access interface.
- a network operator or service provider is involved. a preferred access network and / or a radio access interface selected. Is the currently used network operator resp. the currently used access network and / or the currently used radio access interface not equal to the selected network operator and / or the selected radio access interface, it may be decided by the service provider to perform a system reselection, i. H . to perform a new selection of a network operator and / or a radio access interface. The triggering of this new selection and the control of the re-selection procedure can be controlled by the service provider or. to be controlled . For this purpose, one or more of the following information can be sent by the service provider to the mobile station:
- Additional information to assist in the re-selection such as credentials presented to a potential (radio access) network operator in order to speed up the connection establishment procedure, authentication and / or authorization between that network operator and the PLMN,
- the reselection of an access interface and / or a network operator may be performed when the mobile station is in standby mode when the mobile station is in a connection mode (eg as part of a handover procedure, the service continues to be maintained during the reselection), and / or if the mobile station requests a particular service and the service provider implements the service using the most suitable technology or the most suitable network.
- the mobile station additionally transmits more detailed measurements about its environment to the PLMN. This would allow the PLMN to answer the following questions, for example:
- the service provider on the basis of the information about the mobile station or the mobile station situation, makes better decisions with regard to the suitable radio access interface and / or the suitable network operator or network operator. Access network can meet.
- this information can be updated from time to time, for example, by a Generic User Profile (GUP) protocol or a device management protocol, for example, if the mobile station is supplemented by software and / or hardware modules.
- GUP Generic User Profile
- device management protocol for example, if the mobile station is supplemented by software and / or hardware modules.
- the position of the mobile station is at least approximately known from the service provider side, a more suitable decision can also be made about the radio access interface to be used and / or the (radio access) network operator to be used. For example, a distinction can be made as to whether the mobile station is located in the home area or in the office area of the subscriber of the mobile station, since depending on this a low-range radio access interface can be selected or can not be selected.
- the service provider also has internal knowledge of the subscriber, for example, what services he uses with his modem or subscribers' subscriptions contract, such as claims for best quality service, high data rate, or low quality only

- An advantage of the invention is that the method according to the invention can be used in various situations (standby mode, Connection mode or during a connection setup mode) and existing signaling channels are used in particular for signaling the selection command. Abstract
