• (6) 謝己ゲル化剤の網目«が觸己燃料を取込み、 嫌己翔夜化剤を分散したゲル構成体 をなし、 該ゲル構成体への再液ィヒ誘発剤の作用により再液化剤が編己ゲル化剤の網目構造 を崩し、 編己燃料を雨夜化する (5) に記載の燃料電翻燃料混合物。

本発明の燃料 删燃料混合物は、 高い娃性を有し、 し力も発慰力率が良好であり、 燃料 m¾用の燃料として、 ポータブル簫原、 自動車用簫原、 家庭内霪原システム等に趣 に用いることができる。 さらに本発明の燃ネ斗雷池は、燃料の歸«化を任意に制御でき、 液漏れを改善し取り扱い性を高め、 少量の燃料で高い起 を難しうる燃料€Μ燃料 翔夜ィ匕システムとすることができ、 また燃料電池の構造の簡素化、 /〗^匕、 軽量化を可能 とし、 燃料カートリッジとするなど形態を多様化しうるものである。 発明を実施するための最良の形態
本発明者らは鋭纖討を重ねた結果、 ゲル化して貯蔵した燃料を、 化剤の作用によ り»ィ匕して取り出すことにより、 安全十生を有するだけでなく、 発^]率が良好な燃料電 翻燃料混合物としうることを見出した。 以下、 本発明につ!/、て詳細に説明する。
本発明の燃料電池用燃料混合物において用いられる燃料は、 例えば、 メタノール、 エタ ノーノレ、 イソプロノヽ。ノール、 1—プロノ ノ一ノレ、 ジメチノレエーテノレ、 ギ酸、 ホノレマリン、 ヒドラジン等の有機系の液体燃料、 7k素、 アンモニア、 天然ガス、 ナフサ、 石炭ガス、 バ ィれスガス等の発電の際に気職態である気体燃 が挙げられ、 その ftteR素化ホウ素 ナトリウム等も用いることができる。 これらの中でも、 発慰力率が良いことからメタノー ル、 および水素ガス力 s好ましく、 / 化、 軽量化できることからメタノールが特に好まし レ、。
本発明の燃料電删燃料混^!において、 液体燃料はそのまま用いることができ、 上述 の水素をはじめとする気体燃料は流体化して用レヽることができる。 気体燃料の流体化は、 例えば、 ¾B物質にあらかじめ吸蔵させ、 さらにこれを分 «に分散させた^巟体燃料 とすること力 s好ましい。 気 ί本燃料の «ι ^質としては、 例えば水素 ¾ϋ合金、 カーボンナ ノチューブ等の水素吸収剤や、 ケミカルハイドライド (有 、ィドライド、 ポロハイドラ イド、 ナトリゥムハイドライド) 、 金属錯体等力 S挙げられる。 また、 気体燃料を麵させ た水素 質を分 trTる 某としては、 例えば水や、 メタノール、 エタノール、 ジメ チルエーテル、 ギ酸、 ホルマリン、 ヒドラジン等の有機溶媒が挙げられる。
本発明の燃料鼇池用燃料混合物にぉレ、て、 ゲル化剤は、 少なくとも燃料と共にゲル化し うるものであり、 機高分子等に燃料を吸収させた化学ゲルとなるものであっても、 流体 燃料とゲル化剤との相互作用によるチキソトロピー性を示す物理ゲルとなるものであって もよく、 ゲル化剤が職で又は燃^とともに架橋、 水素^、 の絡まりあいなどに より網目 «5tを構成し、 そこに編 ¾ 料を取込んだ状態でゲル構成体を形成するものであ ること力 S好ましい。 ゲル構成体の作成方法は、 例えば下記がある。 (1 ) ゲルィ Jを lift己 燃料に添 して、 ゲル化剤を^ させ、 ゲル構造体を得る。 (2) モノマーと 開始剤 とを ΙίίϊΒ燃料に溶解させ、 モノマーを重合させ、 ゲル構造体を得る。 ( 3) モノマーと反 応開 ¾ ^と架橋剤とを鍵己燃料に溶解させ、 モノマーを重合させ、架橋し、 ゲル構造体を 得る。
さらに均一な有機— «/ヽイブリッドゲル (例えば、 小田恵美子、永 ¾、 豊田昭徳、 河英光:高分子 ^^予稿集, 53 (2), 3263 (2004)参照) 、 網目が滑車のように動作するト ポロジカルゲル (例えば、 Y. Okumura, K. Ito: Adv. Mater. , 13, 485 (2001) 参照) な ども、 ゲル化剤網目 f¾ によるゲル構成体として挙げることができる。
本発明の燃料 燃 混合物に用いられるゲル化剤としては、 例えば 質ゲルを構 成する獻军質ゲル化剤力 s挙げられ、 ゲル化剤が高分子化合物の 、架 β高分子ゲル化 剤であっても、 非架鍵高分子ゲル化剤であってもよい。 架羅高好ゲル化剤とする場 合、 架橋密度を調節してゲル内に燃料を取り込もうとする吸収力 料となる物質との親 和力、 等) と、 吸収作用を止めようとする力 (網目構造に基づく弾 ¾Λ等) をバラ ンスさせ、 吸収量を制御してもよレ、。
非架羅高 ゲル化剤としては、 例えば、 酸性および Ζまたは:^ Μ生の極醒を有す る高分子化合物が挙げられ、 ポリアクリル酸、 ポリアクリルアミド、 ポリエチレンダリ コール、 またはその誘導体などが好ましく、 ポリアクリル酸またはその誘導体がより好ま しく、 ポリアクリル酸が特に好ましレ、。
架 β高分子ゲル化剤としては、 上記の非架 β高分子ゲル化剤を架橋したものやその 誘導体 (架 βポリアタリル^その誘導体、架; Ιβポリアクリルアミド等) が挙げられ、 架 による網状化物、 架橋性モノマー導入による網状化物、 自己架橋による網状化物、 光'腿線照射による網状化物、 疎水性モノマーの共重合による不溶化 傑橋) 物、 結晶 性ポリマーブロックの導入による不溶化 (娜) 物、 fffi 陽イオンによる架橋物、 水 素結合等二 7夂結合の導入による架橋物等が挙げられる。
その他高吸水性ポリマーを用いることも好ましく、 例えば、 デンプン系ポリマー (例え ば、 デンプン一アクリロニトリルグラフト重合 口水 、 デンプン—アクリル酸ダラ フト重合体、 デンプン一スチレンスルホン酸グラフト重合体、 デンプン一ビニルスルホン 酸グラフト重合体、デンプン一アクリルアミドグラフト重合体等) 、 セルロース ¾ポリ マー (例えば、 セルロース一ァクリル二トリルグラフト重合体、 セルロース一スチレンス ルホン酸グラフト重合体、 カルボキシメチノ ルロースの架橋体等) 、 多糖類系ポリマー (例えば、 ヒアノレロン酸、 ァガロース等) 、 タンパク質 (例えば、 コラーゲン、 ゼラチン 等) 、 ポリビニルアルコール系ポリマー (例えば、 ポリビエルアルコー 橋重合体、 Ρ VA¾zRゲル ·解凍エラストマ一等) 、 アクリル系ポリマー (例えば、 ポリアクリル 酸ナトリゥム架橋体、 ァクリル酸ナトリゥム一ビュルアルコール共重合体ケン化物、 ァク リル酸メチル一酢酸ビュル共重合体ケン化物、 ポリアクリロニトリル系重合体ケン化物、 ヒドロキシェチルメタクリレートポリマー (HEMA) 等) 、 付加重合体 (例えば、 無水 マレイン酸 (共) 重合体、 ビュルピロリ ドン系 (共) 重合体等) 、 ポリエーテノレ系ポリ マー (例えば、 ポリエチレンダリコール ·ジァクリレート架橋重合体等) 、 縮合系ポリ マー (例えば、 エステノレ系ポリマー、 アミド系ポリマー等) 等が挙げられる。
ゲル化剤の形状 態 特に制限はなく、 不定形 (液状、 アラビア糊 ) でも、 粉末 状、 パウダー状、 粒子状、 微粒子状、 ノ ーノレ状、 ビーズ状、 フレーク状、 小ブロック状、 ノルク状、 塊状、 糸難状、 フィルム状、 シート状、 不»状、積層体、 成繊、 発泡体、 多孔体等でもよレ、。

さらに物理ゲル^:のゲル化剤という [Kgijでレヽえば、 と τκ素佶合等の弱レヽ^に よりゲル化する物質が挙げられ、 ζϋしたものの一部 にも、 例えば、 活十顿、 無定形 コロイド状二酸化ケイ素などの «酸化物、 有機アミドの誘導体などが挙げられる。 また、 ゲル化したときにゲル構成体が A L子 またはダブルネットワークを構築する ように複数のゲル化剤を用レヽることも好ま L ヽ。 子構造またはダブルネットワーク構 造とは、 複数の觀のゲルによる絡み合い構造をいい、 例えば、 密に架橋された岡値な強 戀军質性のゲル ( 1 s t網目) と緩く架橋された屈曲性に富んだ中性のゲル (2 n d網 目) 力 Sからみ合った構造が挙げられ、 古川英光、 「ゲルのネ纖冓造一網目の不均一性と力 性一」 、 高^"、 V o l . 5 4、 4 5 8〜4 6 1頁、 2 0 0 5牟 7月等に言己載された ものも好ましく用いることができる。 その他の増粘剤や高好吸収剤等を用レ、ることもで さる。
ゲル化剤の 量は特に制限されな!/、が、 1 0 0以上であること力 S好ましく、 1 0 0 0 〜8 0 0 0 0 0 0がより好ましい (本発明において、 分子量とは、 特に断らない限り、 重 量平均分子量をいう。 ) 。 ただし架橋剤などを用いて ¾ ^したさらに分子量の大きなゲル ィ匕剤を用いることもできる。
ゲル化剤の平均分子量が小さすぎると、 兩夜化後に燃料のみを取出 i~¾^、 燃半将の低 分子量化合物との分離が難しくなり、 面なフィルターが入手しにくくなる。 分子量が大 きすぎると、 ゲル化剤で構成されたゲル化物に兩夜化剤が歴しにくくなる がある。 流体の燃料はゲル化剤との相互作用により、 燃料の蒸発驢カ s減少して粘性が大きく増 カロする。 ゲル化剤の ロ量は特に限定されないが、 ゲル化した燃料の粘度 (本発明におい て、 特に断らない限り、 粘度は室温 ( 2 5°C) における粘度を表す。 ) が 0 . 0 2 P a · s e c以上となるようにゲル化剤の穩¾に応じて適: ¾周整すること力 子ましく、 例えばポ リアタリル^ポリアタリル酸の ¾ϋ体をゲル化剤として用!/ヽた 、燃料 1 0 0質量部 に対して、 3〜3 0質量部であること力 S好ましく、 3〜1 0質量部であることがより好ま しレ、。

燃料を再»化させる方法としては、熱 外線、 外部刺激、 ?辯夜の勸ロなしで再麵 ィ匕する方 、 翔夜化剤により再麵化する方法が挙げられるが、 本発明の燃料電漏燃 料混合物においては、 面夜化剤を添 して (I ) 、 または翔夜化剤を予め分散させておき 兩夜ィ頃凝 IJを添口して (1 1 ) 、 再灘化する。 熱 外線、 外部刺激、 ?辯夜の勸口な どで再流動化する方法では、 i 斗 ®j¾力 S利用される纖は広範囲であるため、 例えばタン クが衡員した際に、 ゲル化した燃料に対して意図しない熱 外線、 外部刺激の加わる場 合があるため好ましくない。 一方、 兩夜化剤または翔夜ィ頃発剤を用いた^^は、 不用意 な翔夜化を防止することが可能となる。 ただし、 本発明の効果を妨げなければ、 西夜化剤 の励口または兩夜ィ 凝 IJの添カロによる液化と、 その他の外部刺激による液化とを組み合 わせてもよい。
( I ) 本発明の好ましい,織として、 ゲルィ 宁蔵した燃料に、 翔夜化剤を添口して雨夜化 する、 翔夜化剤勸ロ式の燃料稱夜化システムにつレ、て以下に詳しく説明する。
本発明の燃料電翻燃料混合物において、 この 11 に用いられる兩夜化剤は、特に限定 されないが、 ゲル化した燃料の一部と水素結合をする物質や、 ゲル化した燃料混合物の一 部とイオン結合をする物質が挙げられ、 例えば、 高分子翻質 (側鎖にノニオン基、 カチ オン基、 またはその両者を含むイオン性高好化合物であること力 s好ましい。 具体的には、 例えば、 ポリエチレンィミン、 高分子«剤 (両性、 カチオン系またはァニオン系の各種 高分子 剤など) 、 イオン交 脂 (強酸性型または弱酸 1«の陽イオン交搬脂、 強 職醒 (I型もしくは II型) または弱 ¾¾醒の陰イオン交漏脂など) などが挙げ られる。 ) 、 タンパク質、 ぺプチド、 コラーゲン、 ゼラチン、 カンテン等が挙げられる。 なお、本発明において、 兩 夜化剤はゲル化剤と同一種の物質となることはない。
雨夜化剤は、 燃料及びゲル化剤から少なくともなるゲル化物と作用して燃料の翔夜化を 起こさせるものであり、 ゲル化物中のゲルィ匕斉 ijとの親和力 (zK素結合力、 イオン結合力、 ファンデルワールス力等) を通じ、 後财る不溶塩の «、 ρ Ηの麵、 の絡まりあ い、 それらの組み合わせの作用により、 ゲル化物中で燃料の拘束を解き翔夜化するもので あること力 子ましい。
雨夜化剤は、 自己の有する極 tt¾とゲル化剤の有する極 |«との関係、で定めることがで き、 雨夜化剤の極性 (高分子化合物であれば側鎖極性) とゲル化剤の極性 (高分子化合物 であれば側鎖極性) と力 S逆極性であっても、 どちら力ー方が両性の極性を備えてレ、ても再 液化を起こさせるものとして用レヽることができ、 夜ィ!^ jの極性とゲル化剤の極性とが逆 極性であること力 s好ましく、 それらの極 [4¾の^ ^性が高レ、ことがより好まし!/、。 例えば、 ゲル化剤として酸 物質、 例えばポリアクリル酸を用いる:^、 翔夜化剤は避亟性のアル 力リ性物質、 例えばポリエチレンイミンを用レ、ること力 s好ましレ、。
翔夜化斉 [)の平均好量は、 1 0 0以上であることが好ましく、 1 0 0 0〜 8 0 0 0 0 0 0がより好ましい。 ただし架橋剤などを用いて架橋したさらに分子量の大きな面夜化剤を 用いることも可育である。
夜化剤の平均分子量が小さすぎると、 雨夜化後に燃料のみを取出 燃^の低 分子量化^)との分離が難しくなり、 安価なフィルターが入手しにくくなる。 分子量が大 きすぎると、 ゲル化剤で構成されたゲル化物に雨夜化剤が顏しにくくなる がある。 さらに翔夜化剤はゲル状であること力 S好ましレヽ。 夜化剤がゲル状である^、 兩夜化 剤が液体の:^に比較して、 ゲル化した燃料と帮夜化剤との分離保存が容易になる。 また、 雨夜化剤力 S顆粒の に比較して、 ゲル化した燃料と翔夜化剤どの混合が容易になる。 す なわち、 例えば、 ゲル化した燃料とゲル状の翔夜化剤とを鎌の小孔を備えた隔壁で隔て て分離保管し、 ゲル状の雨夜化剤に圧力をカゝけることで両者を混合することが可能となる。 本発明の燃料電池用燃料混 I勿において、再液化剤を添カロして再液化する (I ) 、 稻夜化剤がゲル状であると、 流体燃料カートリッジの最^ ϋの隙間や、 流体燃料カート リッジを落下するなどして入ったヒビからの翔夜化剤の流失を好適に防ぐことができる。 なお、 ゲル状の兩夜化剤は、 ゲル化した燃料とゲル状の翔夜化剤とを隔てる嫌己隔壁の 小孔を通り抜けることができなレ、禾 Stの粘度を有して!/、ること力 S好ましく、 粘度が 0 . 0 1 P a · s e c以上であることがより好ましい。
本発明の燃料 燃料混^おいて、 翔夜化剤を添口して翔夜化する ( I ) 、 再 液化剤を添加する量 (複数の齢はその総 4) に特に制限はないが、 ゲル化物を西夜化す るのに十分な量とすること力 s好ましく、 このため燃料の量、 互いに作用するゲル化剤の量 との関係で定めることができ、 燃料 1 0 0質量部に る量でレヽうと:!〜 3 0質量部であ ること力 S好ましく、 1〜: 1 0質量部であることがより好まし 、。 翔夜化剤の添カロ量は、 燃 料の含^^合を低めないよう少ないこと力 S好まし ヽが、 少なすぎると翔夜化の 性を確 保しにくくなる。 従って、燃料の含^ f恰と雨夜ィ SiS性とを考慮して定めること力 s好ま しレ、。
( I I ) 次に、 本発明の別の好ましい ΐ織である、 ゲル化貯蔵した燃料に、兩夜ィ頃凝 IJ を添カロすることにより翔夜化する、 翔夜ィ 発剤励口式の燃料翔夜化システムにつ 、て以 下に説明する。
本発明の燃料電 燃料混合物において、 この態様では、 再液化剤をゲル化剤および燃 料から少なくともなる船物中に予め させておくが、 その面夜化剤は該混合物に対し て実質的に不溶な状態で分散させることができるものが好ましく、 あるいは僅かながら溶 解した状態で分散させることができるもの力 子ましい。 さらに翔夜化剤は、 mi の添口により、 該翔夜ィ 発剤が翔夜化剤に作用して、 つまりゲル化混^ ¾中での翔夜化 剤の溶解度を高める等して、 ゲル化剤と面夜化剤との間に生じる (I ) の纖で述ベた親 和力を通じた作用を起こさせ、 ゲル構成体の網目構造を崩してゲル構成体の網目構造から 燃料を取出せるようにするものが好ましレ、。
また翔夜化剤は戀军質からなるものであることが好ましく、 碰化する前は戀军質が低 電離状態でゲル構成体に分散されてレヽることが好ましい。 ここで、雨夜化する前の劇質 が低 mit状態であるとは、 該議军質が液化された状態に比較して相対的にイオン化度が低 いことを意味する。 この戀军質の翔夜化剤は、 翔夜化誘凝 ilの添ロにより、 該兩夜ィ [^発 剤が翔夜化剤に作用し、 つまりゲル混合物中での議質の ¾i艘を高める等して、 mm を電離させ、 ゲル化剤と翔夜化剤との間に生じる (I ) の!^で述べた親和力を通じた作 用を起こさせ、 ゲル構成体の網目構造が崩れてゲル構成体の網目構造から燃料を取出せる ようにするものが好ましい。
雨夜化剤が識军質からなるものであるとき、 好ましくは、 高分子職種 ½子ましい範囲 は翔夜化剤を添口して ffi夜化する齢 ( I ) で述べたものと同様である。 ) 、 ァスコルビ ン酸類 (例えば、 L—ァスコノレビン酸(ビタミン C) 、 D—ァスコルビン酸、 イソァスコ ノレビン酸、 エリソルビン酸、 それらの酸化還元誘導体 (デヒドロアスコルビン酸) 等) 、 ステアリン酸、 タンパク質、 ペプチド、 コラーゲン、 ゼラチン、 カンテン、 その他の固形 ないし液状の棚酸が挙げられる。 また、 これらの動早質は金属イオン »を含む塩とし て用いることも好ましい。 さらにまた、帮夜化剤として炭 ^7_K素ナトリウムを用いること も好ましい。
ϋζϋした好ましレヽ雨夜化剤は、 職で用!ヽても 2禾顧以上を組み合わせて用レ、てもよく、 戦で用いる齢は、 ペプチド、 タンパク質、 イオンを含む 質、 など力 S好まし
2種類を組み合わせて用レ、る:^はァスコルビン薩とタンパク質との組み合わせ、 ァス コルビン瞧とぺプチドとの組み合わせなどが好ましレ、。
本宪明の燃料鹭翻燃料混合物において、 兩夜化剤を燃料混合物に予め分散させて用い るとき、 兩夜ィ 』の形態は特に制限されないが、 粉末状また tti救粒子状のものを用いるこ と力 s好ましく、 例えば、 微粒子、 高分子ビーズ等を用いて微粒子化してもよい。 微粒子の;^圣は特に制限されなレヽが、 平均; (^圣で 0. 0 1 mn!〜 1 mmであることが好ま しく、 0 . l mm〜 l mmであることがより好ましレ、。 粒径が大きいほどフィルタ一によ り燃料と分離すること力 S容易であるが、 大きすぎると翔夜化剤とゲルとの が遅くなり 翔夜化しにくくなる。
前述した翔夜化剤を添カロして翔夜化する:^ ( I ) 、 ゲル化剤と翔夜化剤の組み合わせ によっては、 その界面にスキン層 (S莫) 力 S形成されることがある。 スキン層力 S形成される と以降の雨夜ィ 」とゲル化剤との^;が阻害され、 西夜化が進行しにくい。 このような再 液化剤にぉレ、ても、 帮夜ィぱ幾能を発現しなレ、状態で翔夜化剤をゲル構成体中に分散させて おけば、 兩夜ィ ¾ ^の添加によりその作用で翔夜 ί 能を発現させるため、 効果的な再 液化が可能となる。
また、 翔夜化剤をゲル構成体中に予め分散させることにより、 多くの:^、 m m 纖を速めることができる。 とくに雨夜化剤が (a) ゲルの網目構造への浸透性が低い物 質 (i©¾S生物質) 、 (b) ゲルとの でスキン層を形成する物質 (スキン層形成物 質) の齢に効果的である。
(a ) 低灘 I"生物質は、 一般にゲルの網目構造に羅しなレヽ物質をさすが、 例えば、 高分 子化合物はゲル^ Sさせることが困難であり、 ゲルの網目構造への進入が阻害される。 一方、 生物質であってもゲル化剤との S ^性が高い物質があり、 B寺間を力、ければ反 応を最後まで完了させること力 sできる。 このような物質において、 性と 生とを決 める要因は異なるものとしてみることができ、 例えば、 浸透)1生は主鎖の長さに影響され、 性は側鎖の構造に影響するためと考えることができる。 この影響をゲノ 占度の点から みれば、 ゲノ 占度が高レ、 には 時間力 Sかかるといえる。
このように爾夜化に不利な物質や条件であっても、 帮夜化が一部で進行してゲルに流動 性が生じれば、 その後は倉¾に 力 s進行する。 つまり粘度がいったん低下し始めると全 体にわたって急速に粘度力 S低下する。 このことから S ^の阻害要因は の初期にあるこ とがわかり、 兩夜ィ 」を予め^ mさせておけば、 これを改善することができる。 このよう な挙動は、 ゲルの 性が増すことで、 ゲルの網目構造全体と帮夜化剤との擲虫が容易に なるためと考えられる。
したがって、 翔夜化剤をゲルに予め^ mさせることにより、 衝 生物質を効果的に利 用し、

( b ) ゲルと翻虫することでスキン層を形成する物質としては、 ペプチド等が挙げられる。 また、 メタノール中で «|隹する物質があるが、 そのような物質は、 通常兩夜ィ 発剤の有 無にかかわらずゲル化斉 IJと してしまい、 そのままでは翔夜イ^ と組み合わせて用 いることができない。
しかしながら、 そのような物質でも、 他の翔夜化剤と併用することで利用可能である。 例えば、他の雨夜化剤として有機酸' (例えば、 ビタミン C) を用い、 該有機酸をゲル化剤 中に予め させることで、 スキン層を形成し"5 Wl/ヽ翔夜化剤を利用することができる。 つまり一方の兩夜化剤が雨夜化誘凝 IJの勸口により液化しはじめ、 ゲルの粘度力 S低下し、 その後で 性の高レヽ物質が機能し、 スキン層を形成 "¾rfに西夜化 ©^カ進行する構成と することができる。
さらに、 西夜化剤として色などによる指ネ IT幾能を有するものを用いることも好ましい。 例えば、 ビタミン cは、 メタノールゲル中では酸化が抑制されるため白色である 、 水溶 液中では酸化し黄色くなる。 この性質を利用し、 燃料 (例えばメタノール) のゲル中の白 色のビタミン Cに、 再液ィ (例えば水) を加えて再 ί夜化して、 黄色への変色により、 翔夜化指標 (開餅旨標) とすること力 Sできる。
ゲル構成体に丽夜化剤を分散させる雄は特に制限されないが、 例えば、 ( a ) ァラビ ァ搠状のゲル化物の 、 ゲル化剤と燃料とを混合しゲル構成体とした後に攪拌して分散 させる方法、 (b ) 架 βゲルを用いる齢、 ゲル化剤を架橋する前 (重合前) に翔夜化 剤と混合して させる 去、 ( c ) «隹状ゲルを用いる:^、 «隹状ゲルとした後に温 度をカゝけて埋め込み (ホットプレス) して翔夜化剤を分散させる方法、 (d) ダブルネッ トワークゲノレとする^ \ 翔夜化剤を含むゲルの周囲を別のゲルで被覆する方法、 ( e ) 分子ィンプリントによりゲル化剤をゲル構成体の所望の位置に、 所望の分布で; 5 ¾保存す る方法などが挙げられる。
. また雨夜化剤力燃料に不溶の ま、 ゲル化剤に分散させること力 S好ましい。 このよう にすることで、 ゲル化剤の網目構造と雨夜化剤との纖な擲虫状態力得られ、 m の i¾tを向上することができる。
一方、 雨夜化剤力 s燃料に溶解する:^は、 水あるいは有機額 IJに溶解して投入すること 力 S好ましレヽ。 あるいは、 燃料に不溶の材質でコーティングを施した上で^させることが 好ましレ、。 コーティングとしてマイクロカプセル技術も好ましく用いることができる。 本発明の燃料 画燃料混^おいて、 翔夜ィ 」を予め分散させておく ( I I ) 、 翔夜化剤を添口する量 (複数の ^はその総量) に特に制限はなレヽが、 ゲル化物を 夜化 するのに な量とすること力 s好ましく、 このため燃料の量、 互いに作用するゲル化剤の 量、 : ^によっては雨夜ィ隱凝 IJの量との関係で定めることができ、燃料 1 0 0質量部に ¾ "る量でレヽうと:!〜 3 0質量部であること力 S好ましく、 1〜: L 0質量部であることがよ り好ましレ、。 稻夜化剤の添ロ量は、 燃料の含 I恰を低めないよう少ないこと力 S好ましレ、 力 少なすぎると西夜化の 性を確保しにくくなる。 従って、 燃料の含摇恰と兩夜化 Si ^性とを考慮して定めることが好ましレヽ。
本発明の燃料電画燃料混合物において、 雨夜ィ は翔夜化を促すことができるも のであれば特に制限はなレ、が、 水または水 '[^某体が好ましく、 Tktt^体である は、 低 分子量 (例えば、分子量 1 0 0から 1 0 0 0) の p HlS^U (例えば、 アミノ酸溆夜、 ぺ プチド赚、 燃料 m¾¾ ^質類似の酸物質あるいはアルカリ物質で、例えばパーフルォロ スルホン膜のセパレータ等に対しては硫麟) 、 有機酸激夜 (例えば、 ステアリン酸鎌、 ァスコルビン麟 夜等) など力 S好ましく、 ァスコルビン酸は燃料 の禾顧によっては燃 料としても機能するためより好ましレ、。
雨夜ィ 発剤を勸卩する量に関して特に制限はな 、が、 ゲル化物を兩夜化するのに十分 な量とすること力 S好ましく、 このため燃料の量、 ゲル化剤の量、 西夜化誘発作用を促す再 液化剤との関係で定めることができ、 少量で帮夜化を促 i~^、 燃料 1 0 0質量咅 こ¾"1~ る量でレヽうと 1〜3 0質量部であることが好ましく、 1〜1 0質量部であることがより好 まし!/、。 夜ィ [^凝 IJの添カロ量は、 燃料の含^ #恰を低めないよう少なレ、こと力 S好ましレヽ 力 少なすぎると精夜ィ 発威の威性を確保しにくくなる。 従って、燃料の含補哈 と西夜化 ®¾†生とを考慮して定めることが好ましレヽ。
翔夜ィ 凝 ijを添 する方法は、 添 する »^燃料混合物の形態などに応じて適:^め ることができ、 例えば、 燃料に不溶の翔夜化剤を予め分散させたゲル化物に、 燃料に溶解 する再液ィ匕誘 ¾ ^を添加する方法、 時間差を設けて添加する方法、すなわち、 再液イ^!発 剤の勸ロ後、 ^^終了するまで時間を設け、 その 終了後に照夜化剤を添口する方法、 燃料に不溶の翔夜ィ 凝 IJを予めゲル化物中に分散させ、 燃料に溶解する雨夜化剤を添ロ する方法などが挙げられる。
また、 気体燃料を流体化して用いる 、 例えば、 zK素赚物質等を した 巟体 燃料を用いる:^、 そのゲルィ 夜化は、 これまで ベてきたものと同様にして行う ことができ、 さらに雨夜化した後に加水^^ · I SJ¾ · 素 S ^によって 質か ら気体燃料 (例えば水素) を取出して発電に用いることができ、 皿田孝史、 柳瀬考応他、 「金属水素化物を用いたパッシブ方小 »料電池の開発」 、 セイコーインスツル、 第 1 2 回燃料電池シンポジウム講演予稿集;堤泰行、 劉岩他、 「脱水素反応型燃料電池」 、 第 1 2回燃料 ¾池シンポジウム講演予稿集等を参考にすることができる。
本発明の燃料 燃料混合物においては、 多孔質材に燃料混合物を吸収させて用いて もよい。 このようにすることで、 ゲル化剤と兩夜化剤とが翻虫する表繊を増加させるこ と力 sでき、 翔夜化をより容易にすることができる。 ただし、 多孔酣の一部分または多孔 内部に取り込まれた空気の部分がデッドスペースになるが、 例えば、燃料混合物を多 孔酣に含ませた状態でゲル化剤モノマーを重合すれば、 このデッドスペースを減らしな がら、 効果的に翻虫 B¾を増付ことが可能である。
本発明の燃料混合物に用いられる多孔質材は、燃料混合物の吸収に適していればその形 態に特に制限はないが、 例えば、 スポンジ状多孔 、不»^ 孔灘才 (例えば、東洋 紡ネ; tS^ :ランシール F (商品名) 等) 等力 s挙げられ、 超吸収个 4雌からなる不»によれ ばさらにデッドスペースを減らすことが可能となる。 このように本発明の燃料混合物に用 いられる多孔徵才は、微細孔によるものに限られず、 燃料混合物を分散させ、燃料混合物 と翔夜化誘 あるいは菌夜化剤との を増加する機能を有するものであればよ »隹の隙間によるものなども含まれる。
多孔灘才の配置はゲルィ 体にまたがってもよいが、 ゲルイ 申½体に対して分布 を持って配置してもよレ、。 例えば、 翔夜化剤を添カロする添カロ手段近傍に多孔酣を配置す ることにより、 まず多孔餅才の近位にて液化が進行し、 ゲルに »性が生じ、 多孔徵才の 遠位における ®¾力 S促進されることとなる。 また、 翔夜化した燃料の取り出す取り出し手 段近傍に多孔謝を配置することにより、 多孔酣を濾過材として禾拥することが可能と なる。 このような濾過材を配置することにより、燃料鼇池への不純物の流出力 繊される。 濾過材に吸着 '吸収される不純物としては、 ゲル化剤、 翔夜化剤、 それらの SJ^生成物な どがあ ifられる。
多孔質材の量は燃料混合物を吸収、 移動分散できれば特に制限はないが、 ゲル状燃料混 合物に対して、 体 比で:!〜 2 0 %が好ましく、 1〜: 1 0 %がより好ま L ヽ。
本発明の燃料電翻燃料混^)は、 ゲル繊料混合物に西夜化剤を添加することにより、 または兩夜化剤を予め^ ¾させておき、 兩夜ィ IJを添口することにより、 ゲル構成体 中で形成されている網目構造を崩して燃料を流動ィ匕させ、 兩夜化した燃料を取出すことを 可能とするものである。 このような良好な翔夜化は、 ^^明の点を含むが、 (a ) 不溶塩 の生成、 (b ) p Hの変動、 (c ) 分子の絡まりあい、 (d) それらの組み合わせという 4種類の作用によりもたらされると考えられる。 以下、 それぞれの作用について説明する 力 S、 本発明がこれにより限定して角群尺されるものではない。
( a ) 不溶塩の^;
ゲル構成体中では、 ゲル化剤と翔夜化剤とから塩が形成されていると考えられる。 した 力 Sつて燃料一ゲル化剤一雨夜化剤を適切に組み合わせることで、燃料に不溶な塩を得るこ とができ、 このような塩を用レ、ることで 夜化の進行がより促進されると考えられる。 (b ) ρ Η^ β
高分子 βί ^質は一般に p Hによってその謹赎が変わるが、 例えば、 高分子戀質をゲ. ル化剤に用レ、た齢は、激夜の ρ Ηを制御することで爾夜化の進行がより促進されると考 えられる。
( c ) 分子の絡まりあい
ゲル化剤と翔夜化剤との双方が例えば 分子の齢、 その両者を絡ませることで翔夜化 の進行がよりィ足進されると考えられる。 これはゲル化剤の側鎖と兩夜化剤の側鎖とが電気 的に引き合う齢にさらに効果が高くなると考えられる。
( d) 上記の組み合わせ
上記作用を適: ¾且み合わせることで、 爾夜化の進行が相乗的に促進され効果が高まると 考えられる。
ゲル化した燃料混合物に翔夜化剤を添口すると、 または西夜化剤を予め分散させておき 爾夜ィ頃凝 IJを勸口すると、 種夜化剤とゲル化剤の相互作用により、 粘度が大きく低下し、 燃料が再、 化するが、再流動化した燃料の粘度が、 0. 0 2 P a . s e c未満となるよ うに雨夜化剤の禾顧に応じて適: f雄することが好ましレ、。 再»ィ匕した燃料の粘度が高 すぎると効率良く燃料を取り出すことができなレ、。
本発明の燃料鼋翻燃料混合物は、 特 I"生に影響を及ぼさない範囲で、 J ^した成分に加 えて、 香料、 色素、腐食防止剤、黼嗍、 助燃剤、 界面活 tt¾などを添 してもよい。 香料としては、 例えば蟻酸イソァミル、 ェチノレバニリン、 シトラール、 プロピオン酸ィ ソァミル、 1一メントール、 トランス一 2—ブテン、 シス一 2—ブテン等を用いることが できる。 ただし、 一般的な香料であるメルカブタン類ゃサルファイド類は、 硫黄分を含ん でいるため、 ^^汚染の一因となるだけでなく、 燃料 池に使用されている角 某を劣化さ せる等の問題点を有するため好ましくない。 色素は有 «料、 «¾料およひ染料のいず れでもよく、 蛍光色素を配合してもよレ、。 腐食防止剤としては、 例えばダイマー酸、 ポリ ォキシエチレンアルキルァミン、 カルボキシべタイン型両性界面活'随 IJ等を用レヽることが できる。 助燃剤としては、 高蒸 ^ffi (例えば、 燃料より髙レ、蒸^ Ϊ) のものであることが 好ましく、燃料と同一の機 虫媒で発電が可能であることがより '好まし 例えば、 有 機酸、 ビタミン C、 7_R素化ホウ素ナトリウム、 蟻 ^^を用いることができる。 界面活' l^iJ ^ iとして、 例えば、 特開 2 0 0 1— 9 3 5 5 8に記載の物質を利用することができ る。 .'
次に、燃料 ¾¾のネ髓例を挙げ、 本発明の好ましい雞鎌を説明するが、 本発明はこ れらによって限定されるものではない。
図 3は一般的な燃料 mmのネ髓例を模式的に示す断面図である。 図 3では、 セパレータ 3を介して両側に燃料極 1と酸化剤極 2が設置され、 さらにその外側にそれぞれ燃料室 4 と酸化剤室 5力 されている。 そして燃料 (例えば、 水素、 メタノーノ!^) の酸化は酸 ィ匕剤室 5に酸化剤 (例えぱ 素等) が流通 (矢印 6 a、 6 b) され、 それによつて行われ るとともに、 その酸化剤は還元され、 jS ^電が行われ電流力 る (矢印 7)。 なおセ パレータ 3には動军質を含有し、 力 イオン (例えば、 水素イオン等) を良く し、 反 応物質 (例えば、 水素、 メタノール、 赚など) を羅しないものが女 に用いられる。 本発明の燃料鼇翻燃料混合物は、 このような一般的な構成の燃料き池にも使用するこ とができ、例えば、燃料室 4に燃料混合物をいれ、 使用する際に翔夜化剤または帮夜ィ i^ljを供給口 (図 ¾¾·¾τΤ) カ 勸 Ρして帮夜化して使用することができる。 このとき後述 するフィルターを用いたものと異なり、 液化した燃料と分離した固形成分 (ゲル化剤、 再 液化剤等) 力燃^ m¾にともに ¾ΐελしうるが、 通常は液ィ « と戴亟との撤虫が十分に確 保され良好な発電を行うことができる。
図 1は、 本発明の燃料 用燃料混^を用!/、た燃料電池の好ましレ、ネ冓造例を模式的に 示す断面図である。 この燃料 ®¾においては燃料極 1の外側に濾過材 9を設け、 燃料混合 物中の燃料以外の物質 (例えば、 ゲル化剤、 雨夜化剤、 その他の添 Ρ^) 力 s燃料極 1に接 触しないようにしたものである。 本発明の燃料鼇池用燃料カートリッジにおいては、濾過 材 9と燃料混合物力 SA Lられた燃料室 4を、 その他の燃料電池の構成部と分割できるよう にして、 交換カートリッジとすることもできる。 本発明の燃料鼇池用燃料カートリッジに おいては、 ±¾6の構成のように濾過材を用いることが好ましく、濾過材を有することで、 流体の燃料を S¾本体に選択的に ¾λし、 電池本体の出力; ^劣化するのを防ぐことができ る。 .
図 2は、 本発明の燃料飄用燃料混合物を用!/、た燃料鼇池の別の好ましレヽ構造例を模式 的に示す断面図である。 この燃料馳においては、 図 1の構成の燃料霪池に、 さらに燃料 室内の燃料 M燃料混合物を、濾過材で少なくとも 2以上の区画 (セル) に区分けして 貯蔵することで、 雜のセル申髓とし、 必要に応じて個々のセルに翔夜化斉 たは雨夜化 誘凝 (Jを ¾Λして徐々に発電すること力 sできる。
濾過材の材料に特に制限はないが、 分画^ ^量は 1 0 0 0 0以上のものであることが特 に好ましレ、。濾過材の分画分子量が 1 0 0 0 0以上であると、濾過材の目詰まりを起こす こと力 sなく、燃料 の発^]率が良好となる。
_h¾Eした構成以外にも、燃料をゲル化して貯蔵し、 該ゲル化した燃料を ffi夜化剤により 再流動化する纖として、 例えば、 ( i ')燃料雜使用前はゲル化剤と翔夜化剤を另 U« · 'に保管しておき、発電時に混合するもの、 (i i ) ゲル化剤と兩夜化剤を同一 «内に仕 切りを隔てて ¾λするもの、 (i i i ) ゲル化剤と、 予めマイクロカプセルに内包した再 液化剤とを同一容器内にいれ、 発電時の燃料消費による 動に伴ってマイクロカプセ ルが觀し、 中の西夜化剤が流出するものなど力 S拳げられる。 なお、 マイクロカプセルと しては、 ポリビニノレアルコール (PVA)架橋膜、 ナイロン膜、 スチレンージビエルベン ゼン共重合膜、ゼラチン一アラビアゴム膜、 シリカ (TE O S) 重合膜などが挙げられ、 菌夜ィ匕斉 IJを内包したマイクロカプセノレの周囲には、 ゲル化した流体の燃料と接着する接着 mを形成すること力 子ましレ、。 実施例

(粘度)
粘度計 (Y a m a i c h i E l e c t r i cネ ±S¾ D i g i t a l V i s e oma t e VM- 100 (PR— 100— L) (商品名) ) を用いて、 高周波振動法に従って 測定した。
(電流測定)
マルチメータ (ADV ANTES T Di g i t a l Mu 1 t i m e t a r TR6 845 (商品名) ) を用いて、 可変抵抗を用いて電流電圧曲線を測定し、 また固定抵抗を 用いて総発電量 (測定時の瞬間起 (mW) ) と積算 ®Λを測定した。

(実施例 2) '
ポリアクリル酸の代わりにポリアクリル«橋体 (和光 «化学 (株) Ι± 型番:ハ イビスヮコ一 103 (商品名) ) 0. 03 gを用レ、た以外は^例 1と同様にしてゲル状 燃料混合物とした。 メタノ一ルはポリアクリル赚橋体によりゲル化し娃性が確保され た。
次いで、 実施例 1と同様にして燃料を兩夜化し、 燃料電池の およひ 発電量の 測定を行つたところ、 発^)率は 75 %以上であった。
(実施例 3)
流 ί本燃料カートリツジの燃料室を、 ゝ画、子量 1000の濾過材 (MI LL I PORE ネ ±¾P BTK0431 (NMWL 3 OK) (商品名) ) により図 2に示すように分割した 燃料 ¾を用レ、、 分割した燃料室それぞれに実施例 1で調製した燃料混合物を 内した。 メタノ一ルはポリアクリル酸によりゲル化し、 性カ S確保された。
次いで実施例 1と同様にして燃料を西夜化し、燃料 m¾のィ e、およひ 発電量の測 定を行ったところ、 発^ ¾率は 50%以上であった。
(比較例 1)

得られたゲル應料混合物を図 1に示"^冓成を有する燃料電池 Q : 0. 45 のセルロースアセテートメンブレンフィルター) の燃料室に収納し、 そこに、 ゼラチン
(ゼラチンリーフ、 MARUHAネ環) 30 Omgを 80°Cに加温した 1 m 1の水に溶解 した湯煎溜夜を添ロし、 攪拌した。 燃料混合物は液体部と 部とに分離し、 液体部は白 濁してレ、た。 湯煎?薪夜を添ロして 2分後の液 ίΦ^の $占度は 0. 025P a ' s e cであり、 このときの燃料電池の倾廳およ Ό¾翁発電量の測定を行ったところ、 発 率は 65 % 以上であった。

ポリアクリル酸 (和光純薬工業 (株) 擺 平均分子量 1, 000, 000) 300m gに、 粉末状のビタミン C (ァスコルビン麵末、 岩菌薬 (株) ) l O OOmgを ft ?昆合して分散させ、 そこにメタノーノレ 8 m 1を _¾λし、 29 °Cで 1晚青置して占度 0. 303Pa · s e cのゲノレ状燃斗混合物を藤した。 メタノ一ノレはポリァクリル酸により ゲノレイ匕し、安全 ["生が確保された。
得られたゲル状燃料混合物を図 1に示 ϋ成を有する燃料電池 (濾過材:ろ紙) の燃料 室に収納し、 そこに水 lmlを添 した。 燃料混合物 ί 占性の残る状態で藤化していた。 水を添卩して 1時間後の粘度は 0. 058Pa ' s e cであり、 このときの燃料電池の作 w よひ忿発電量の測定を行ったところ、 発慰力率は 40 %以上であった。
難例 6)
ァスコルビン酸に代えて、 粉末状の炭 素ナトリウム («99. 5%、 和光纏工 業 (株) ) 30 Omgを用いた以外、 実施例 5と同様にしてゲル状燃料混合物を した。 メタノ一ルはポリアクリル酸によりゲル化し、 性が確保された。
得られたゲル應料混合物を図 1に示 1~冓成を有する燃料電池 (濾過材: 0. 45μm のセノレロースァセテ一トメンブレンフィルター) の燃料室に収納し、 そこに水 1 m 1を添 加した。 燃料混合物は液#¾5と« ^とに分離し、 液#¾は白濁していた。 水を^ ¾して 10分後の液特|5の粘度は 0· 008Pa ' s e cであり、 このときの燃料 池の^]確 認ぉょひ 発電量の測定を行ったところ、 発 率は 80%以上であった。 ただし、長期 馬1«¾後、燃料電池の出力低下がみられた。 (実施例 7)
ァスコルビン酸に代えて、 粉末状のペプチド (コラーゲンペプチド酵素 旱品、 和光純 薬工業 (株) ¾ϋ 平均 ^子量2 0 0 0) 3 0 0 m gを用いた以外、 実施 ί列 5と同様にし てゲル雄料混合物を條した。 メタノ一ルはポリアクリル酸によりゲル化し、 ^^性が 確保された。
得られたゲル應料混合物を図 1に示" 11冓成を有する燃ネ斗 (濾過材: 0. 4 5 のセルロースァセテ一トメンブレンフィルター) の燃料室に収納し、 そこに水 1 m 1を添 加した。 燃料混合物から透明の液解 S分離した。 水を添 して 5分後に、 燃料電池の作 動 およひ 発電量の測定を行ったところ発 率は 7 0 %以上であった。
(実施例 8 )
例 5で したゲル 料混合物内に 2 0 mm四方のスポンジ状多孔質材を投入し た。 得られた燃料混合物を含む多孔酣を図 1に示 US成を有する燃料電池 (濾過材: 0. 4 5 At mのセルロースアセテートメンブレンフィルター) の燃料室に収納し、 そこに水 1 m 1を添カロした。 このようにすることにより、 多孔餅才中の燃料混合物の »性が高まり、 スポンジ 孔質材に吸収され、 スポンジ状多孔酣に圧力を力けると燃料が放出された。 水を^)卩して 5分後に放出された燃料を用い、燃料 池の およひ 発電量の測定 を行つたところ、 発 率は 4 0 %以上であった。 産業上の利用の可能性
本発明の燃料電翻燃料混合物は、 例えば、 ポータブル 原、 自動車用觀原、 家庭内電 源システム等に好適に用いることができる。 また、 本発明の燃科鼇麵燃料雨夜化システ ム、燃料 m¾用燃料カートリッジ、 および燃料霞池の燃料取出し方法は、燃料 mmの構造 の簡素化、 / 化、 軽量化を可能とする手段として ίΙに用いることができる。 本発明をその実 とともに説明したが、 我々は特に指定しない限り我々の発明を説 明のどの細部にぉレヽても限定しようとするものではなく、 ' 寸の請求の範囲に示した発明 の精神と範囲に反することなく Ψ畐広く角截されるべきであると考える。 本願は、 2005年 1月 26日に日本国で特許出願された特願 2005-18092、及び 2005年 8 月 17日に日本国で特許出願された特願 2005-236990に基づく優先権を主張するものであ り、 これらはレヽずれもここに参照してその内容を本明細書の記載の一部として取り込む。

Claims

請 求 の 範 囲
1 . 燃料おょぴゲル化剤から少なくともなるゲル化物であって、 該ゲル化物カ¾¾化剤 との 下で tirlB燃料の雨夜化を起こす燃料電 燃料混^!。
2. 夜化剤がゲル状である請求項 1に Ϊ己載の燃料鼋池用燃斗混合物。
3. 前記再液化剤の平均分子量が 1 0 0以上である請求項 1または 2に記載の燃料電池 用燃料混合物。
4. 爾 料およひ Kit己ゲル化剤から少なくともなる混合物がゲル化物をなし、 該ゲル ィ匕物に嫌 夜化剤を作用させて鳕己燃料を翔夜化する請求項:!〜 3の!/、ずれか 1項に記 載の燃料 ®池用燃料混合物。
5. ΙίίΙΒ燃料およ tmt己ゲル化剤から少なくともなり Ιίίΐ己翔夜化剤を分散した混合物が ゲル化物をなし、 該ゲル化物に西夜ィ瞧剤を作用させて嫌己燃料を菌夜化する請求項 1 記載の燃料電翻燃料混合物。
6 . 編己ゲル化剤の網目構造が filtS燃料を取込み、 嫌己雨夜化剤を分散したゲル構成体 をなし、該ゲル構成体への翔夜化誘凝 IJの作用により稱夜化剤力 ¾tJt己ゲル化剤の網目構造 を崩し、 fit己燃料を雨夜化する請求項 5に記載の燃料 β¾用燃料混合物。
7. 嫌己ゲル化剤の網目構造が ttjf己燃料を取込み戀旱質からなる歸己翔夜化剤を低電離 状態で爐したゲル構成体をなし、該ゲル構成体への翔夜ィ t¾§ ^の作用により電離した 戀军質が lift己ゲル化剤の網目構造を崩し、 ΙίίΙ己燃料を翔夜化する請求項 5に記載の燃料電 池用燃料混合物。
8. 前記再?夜ィ匕斉 Uが、 高分子電解質、 ァスコノレビン酸、 ステアリン酸、 ペプチド、 炭酸 τΚ素ナトリゥム、 固形もしくは液状の有機酸、 または固形もしくは液状の棚赚である 請求項 5〜 7のレヽずれか 1項に記載の燃料 @Μ燃料昆合物。
9. « ^属微粒子または高分子ビーズを用いて tiitesi夜化剤を微粒子化した請求項 8 に記載の燃料電池用燃料混合物。

1 4. 編己翔夜ィ 発斉 Uが、 τ、 アミノ酸激夜、 ペプチド?薪夜、 硫酸溜夜、 およ O¾f機酸 赚から選ばれる請求項 5〜 1 3の 、ずれか 1項に記載の燃料 用燃料混合物。
