The demands on the sealing seam are contra versial: on the one hand, it should ensure a reliable, tight packaging of the food, on the other hand, it should be easy to open, without causing the film tears or parts remain in parts of the other film, which looks ugly.

- LDPE or PP adheres well to paper, so there is no danger that the release layer separates from the paper. At the same time, however, LDPE adheres relatively poorly to PP, so that reliably the release layer can be detached from the sealant layer.
- PP is relatively expensive, so it is more cost effective to use PP in the sealing layer, where it is needed only in a small material thickness.
- LDPE is relatively cheap and therefore more suitable for the thicker release layer. From the technical side, however, the sealing layer of LDPE and the separating layer of PP can just as well exist. - a sealing layer 4 made of PP is heat sealed together with facing sealing layers. High temperatures are used so that the two PP layers merge indissolubly together (see Fig. 2). If the two films are torn apart, the separating layer 3 separates cleanly from the gel layer 4. There is no material of the separating layer 3 on the sealing layer 4, and also no material of the sealing layer 4 on the separating layer 3. In particular, no threads are formed.
