技術分野
本発明は、 1以上の光ファイバを有するファイバアレイが固定された光デバィ ス及びその製造方法に関し、 特に、 ファイバアレイを伝搬する信号光を途中でモ 二夕する場合に好適な光デバイス及明びその製造方法に関する。
背景技術
近時、 ファイバアンプを用いた波長多重 (WDM) 方式の通信の発達に伴い、 アンプ特性確保のため、 各波長の光量をモニタし、 光量を調整した上でアンプに て増幅させるという方式が採られるようになってきている。
このモニタには各種方法が知られているが、 各ファイバにモニタデバイスを搭 載するため、 モニタデバイスだけでかなりの大きさを必要としている。
そのため、 モニタデバイスの小型化、 高密度化が望まれている。 また、 モニタ する際に、 信号光の一部を取り出して行うようにしているが、 信号光を大きく減 衰させることなくモニタリングできるも.のが望まれている。
従来では、 図 1 3に示すような技術が開示されている (例えば特開 2 0 0 1— 2 6 4 5 9 4号公報参照) 。 この技術は、 ガラス基板 2 0 0の V溝 2 0 2内に光 ファイバ 2 0 4を配置し、 その後、 ガラス基板 2 0 0に対して光ファイバ 2 0 4 を (その光軸に対して) 斜めに横切るように平行溝 2 0 6を形成する。 そして、 図 1 5に示すように、 この平行溝 2 0 6内に光反射基体 2 0 8 (光学部材) を揷 入し、 その隙間に紫外線硬化樹脂 (接着剤) 2 1 0を充填するようにしている。
これにより、 図 1 4に示すように、 光ファイバ 2 0 4を伝搬する信号光 2 1 2 のうち、 光反射基体 2 0 8で反射した光成分 (反射光) 2 1 4がクラッド外に取 り出されることになる。 従って、 この反射光 2 1 4を例えば受光素子 2 1 6にて 検知することで、 信号光 2 1 2のモニタが可能となる。 ところで、 上述した従来のモニタデバイスにおいては、 ガラス基板 2 0 0と光 ファイバ 2 0 4に設けられた平行溝 2 0 6内に別の光学部材である光反射基体 2 0 8を挿入するようにしている。
この場合、 平行溝 2 0 6の側壁と光反射基体 2 0 8との間に、 ある程度のクリ ァランスが必要となるため、 光反射基体 2 0 8の両側に厚み 1 0 程度の接着 剤 2 1 0が存在することとなる。 つまり、 光反射基体 2 0 8の端面と光ファイバ 2 0 4の端面との間に 1 0 m程度の接着剤 2 1 0が介在することとなる。
前記接着剤 2 1 0は、 一般的に屈折率整合するといえる。 しかし、 上述のよう に、 WDM方式や DWDM方式に適用した場合、 使用波長が 1 5 3 0〜1 6 2 5 n mであり、 かなり広い波長が使われる。 場合によっては、 更に広い波長も使わ れることになる。 このような場合、 屈折率整合するといつても、 ある波長では一 致できても、 このような広帯域で全て ^致させることは極めて困難である。
屈折率が一致していない状態では、 その界面で透過光は屈折し、 かつ、 反射成 分も発生する。 図 1 6に模式的に示すように、 上述の平行溝 2 0 6の場合、 透過 光 Lは光ファイバ 2 0 4と接着剤 2 1 0との界面で屈折し、 接着剤 2 1 0を抜け るが、 接着剤 2 1 0の距離が 1 0 mレベルであるため、 屈折による透過光 の 位置ずれ (光ファイバ 2 0 4の理想的な光軸 mに対する位置ずれ) が無視できな くなる。 この屈折が光反射基体 2 0 8と接着剤 2 1 0の界面でも発生し、 最終的 に透過光 Lは光ファイバ 2 0 4に到達することになるが、 前記 2つの界面での屈 折による位置ずれにより、 損失が大きくなる (位置ずれによる影響) 。
また、 前記平行溝 2 0 6を設けた場合、 平行溝 2 0 6内に光反射基体 2 0 8を 収める形態となるため、 図 1 7に模式的に示すように、 光ファイバ 2 0 4の端面 の基準面 (例えば鉛直面) に対する傾斜角度と光反射基体 2 0 8の端面の前記基 準面に対する傾斜角度は一致しない。 ここで、 傾斜角度が一致しないというのは、 製造個体別に前記傾斜角度がおのおのばらつくということである。
光ファイバ 2 0 4の端面の傾斜角度と光反射基体 2 0 8の端面の傾斜角度が一 致していないと、 光反射基体 2 0 8を透過する光 Lの光軸角度は、 光ファイバ 2 0 4を透過する光 Lの光軸角度とは一致せず、 更に大きな位置ずれを生じるおそ れがある。 このような位置ずれが、 製造ばらつきで発生するということは、 実質 的に品質を管理することができないということになる (位置ずれによる影響) 。 また、 光反射基体 2 0 8としては、 (1 ) 石英基板上に多層膜のハーフミラー を形成したもの、 (2 ) 石英基板上に所望の屈折率を有する材質の単層膜を形成 したもの、 (3 ) 所望の屈折率を有するバルク部材とする、 等が考えられる。
( 1 ) の場合、 当然、 反射と透過の特性は、 ある入射角度で設計されている。 つまり、 入射角度が変わると諸特性が変わってしまうこととなる。 特に、 偏波面 依存性や波長依存性という特性は要求が厳しく、 かつ入射角度に敏感である。
( 2 ) 及び (3 ) の場合は、 入射角度が大きくなると、 P D L (偏波面依存損 失) が大きくなるという問題がある。
上述のように、 従来のモニタデバイスにおいては、 光反射基体 2 0 8の端面の 傾斜角度が製造個体別にばらついてしまうことから、 反射特性や透過特性に悪影 響を与えるおそれがある (入射角度による特性のばらつき) 。
また、 上述したように、 接着剤 2 1 0での反射が発生するため、 本来の光反射 基体 2 0 8の端面からの反射と干渉するおそれがある。 特に、 平行溝 2 0 6を形 成した場合、 接着剤 2 1 0の厚みがばらつき、 該厚みを制御することが難しいた め、 前記干渉の影響を管理することが困難である (干渉の影響) 。
また、 平行溝 2 0 6を形成する場合、 光ファイバ 2 0 4の端面は研削加工によ り形成されることになるため、 粗い面となる。 接着剤 2 1 0で完全に屈折率整合 してあれば、 この面状態 (粗い面) の影響はないが、 上述のように、 屈折率差は 物質の界面で必ずあるため、 端面が粗ければ、 反射 ·透過光とも端面で発散して. しまい、 所望の特性を得ることは困難である。 しかも、 発散によって光反射基体 2 0 8への入射角度が変動し、 波長や偏光特性にも悪影響を与える (面状態の特 性への影響) 。
また、 従来のモニタデバイスにおいては、 接着剤 2 1 0中に光反射基体 2 0 8 が存在している形態であるため、 光反射基体 2 0 8の温度等、 環境の変化での挙 動 (実際に光反射基体 2 0 8が動く) が懸念される。 この場合、 反射光に対して も透過光に対しても特性の変動が発生することになる (環境変化による特性変 動) 。
本発明はこのような課題を考慮してなされたものであり、 モニタリング機能を 有する光デバイスの透過光の位置ずれによる影響、 入射角度による特性のばらつ き、 干渉の影響、 面状態の特性への影響、 環境変化による特性変動等の問題を解 消することができ、 反射光及び透過光の特性の劣化を抑えることができる光デバ イス及びその製造方法を提供することを目的とする。 発明の開示
本発明に係る光デバイスは、 1以上の光ファイバを有する第 1のファイバァレ ィを通過する光の反射光を、 該第 1のファイバアレイの外方へ導く構造を有する 光デバイスにおいて、 前記第 1のファイバアレイと、 1以上の光ファイバを有す る第 2のファイバアレイと、 前記第 1のファイバアレイの端面と前記第 2のファ ィパアレイの端面との間に配された反射部材とを有し、 前記反射部材は屈折率整 合部材を介し、て前記第 1のファイバアレイと前記第 2のファイバアレイとの間に 固定されていることを特徴とする。
これにより、 反射部材と第 1のファイバアレイの端面とが面合わせされ、 かつ、 屈折率整合部材を介して互いに固定されることとなるため、 反射部材と第 1のフ ァィパァレイの端面との間隔をサブミクロンレベルにすることが可能となり、 組 立て時の貼り付け製造ばらつき等を考慮しても、 前記間隔は 5 m以下にするこ とができる。 これは、 反射部材と第 2のファイバアレイとの関係でも同様である。 このように、 反射部材と第 1のファイバアレイの端面との間隔並びに反射部材 と第 2のファイバアレイの端面との間隔を狭くすることができるため、 それぞれ の界面にて屈折が起きたとしても、 位置ずれはほとんど発生せず、 低損失となる (位置ずれによる影響の改善) 。
上述の間隔は 5 m以下であれば損失を低く抑えることができるが、 好ましく は 3 m以下がよく、 より好ましくはサブミクロンであるとよい。 これは、 反射 部材の貼り付け条件に依存するが、 基本的には面合わせによる貼り付けになるた め、 実現できるレベルである。 更に、 本発明では、 上述のように、 第 1のファイバアレイと反射部材とを面合 わせにて固定することができるため、 第 1のファイバアレイの端面の基準面に対 する傾斜角度と、 反射部材の第 1のファイバアレイと対向する端面の前記基準面 に対する傾斜角度とをほぼ同じにすることができる。 そのため、 反射部材中にお いて屈折があっても、 透過光の位置ずれが大きくなることはなく、 低損失である (位置ずれによる影響の改善) 。
また、 第 1のファイバアレイと反射部材とを面合わせにて固定することができ るため、 精度よく反射部材の角度を管理することができ、 これは、 入射角度のば らっきを抑えることができることにつながり、 反射特性や透過特性を所望の特性 (要求特性) に合わせ込むことができる (入射角度による特性のばらつきの改 また、 本発明においては、 基本的には、 第 1のファイバアレイと反射部材とを 面合わせで固定することができることから、 ほとんど屈折率整合部材 (例えば接 着剤層) がない状態にすることができ、 しかも、 その厚みのばらつきも小さくす ることができる。 このようなことから、 屈折率整合部材の厚みに対する制御が容 易になり、 反射光の干渉の影響を管理し易くなる。 これは、 干渉の影響をほとん どなくすことができることにつながり、 特性の向上を図ることができる (干渉の 上述のように、 本発明は、 第 1のファイバアレイと反射部材とを面合わせで固 定するようにしている。 通常、 ファイバアレイの端面は、 光学研磨が施されてい る。 本発明に係る第 1のファイバアレイ (及び第 2のファイバアレイ) において も、 端面は、 光学研磨が施される。
つまり、 本発明では、 光学研磨が施されてほとんど鏡面とされたファイバァレ ィの端面に反射部材を面合わせして固定することから、 ファイバアレイの端面で 光が発散することがなくなり、 入射角度の変動並びに波長や偏光特性の変動等は 生じない (面状態の特性への影響の改善) 。
また、 反射部材は、 第 1のファイバアレイと第 2のファイバアレイ間において 面合わせにて固定されることから、 リジットな状態となり、 温度等、 環境の変化 があっても、 反射部材のみが動くということはなく、 反射特性や透過特性等は安 定する (環境変化による特性変動の改善) 。
このように、 本発明においては、 モニタリング機能を有する光デバイスの透過 光の位置ずれによる影響、 入射角度による特性のばらつき、 干渉の影響、 面状態 の特性への影響、 環境変化による特性変動等の問題を解消することができ、 反射 光及び透過光の特性の劣化を抑えることができる。
そして、 前記構成において、 前記反射部材は、 バルク部材と、 該バルク部材に おける前記第 1のファイバアレイと対向する端面に形成されたハーフミラ一膜と を有するようにしてもよい。 また、 前記反射部材は、 樹脂フィルムと、 該樹脂フ イルムにおける前記第 1のファイバアレイと対向する端面に形成されたハーフミ ラー膜とを有するようにしてもよい。
また、 前記構成において、 前記第 1のファイバアレイが載置される V溝が形成 された第 1の基台と、 前記第 2のファイバアレイが載置される V溝が形成された 第 2の基台とを有し、 前記第 1の基台の端面と前記第 1のファイバアレイの端面 とがほぼ一致し、 前記第 2の基台の端面と前記第 2のファイバアレイの端面とが ほぼ一致し、 前記第 1の基台の端面と前記第 2の基台の端面との間に前記反射部 材が介在されていてもよい。
この場合、 前記第 1の基台と前記第 2の基台に連続して形成され、 位置決め用 のガイドピンが着脱自在とされた溝が形成されていてもよい。 これにより、 第 1 のファイバアレイと第 2のファイバアレイとの調心を簡単に行うことができる。 次に、 本発明に係る光デバイスの製造方法は、 1以上の光ファイバを有する第 1のファイバアレイと 1以上の光ファイバを有する第 1のファイバアレイの各端 面に光学研磨を施す工程と、 前記第 1のファイバアレイの端面と反射部材の一方 の端面とを屈折率整合部材として用いる接着剤を介して固着する工程と、 前記反 射部材の他方の端面と前記第 2のファイバアレイの端面とを屈折率整合部材とし て用いる接着剤を介して固着する工程とを有することを特徴とする。
これにより、 モニタリング機能を有する光デパイスの透過光の位置ずれによる 影響、 入射角度による特性のばらつき、 干渉の影響、 面状態の特性への影響、 環 境変化による特性変動等の問題を解消することができ、 反射光及び透過光の特性 の劣化を抑えることができる。
そして、 前記製造方法において、 前記第 1のファイバアレイの端面に前記反射 部材を前記接着剤を介して固着した後に、 前記反射部材の他方の端面を研削研磨 するようにしてもよい。
また、 前記第 1のファイバアレイが載置固定される V溝が形成された第 1の基 台と、 前記第 2のファイバアレイが載置固定される V溝が形成された第 2の基台 とを使用する場合に、 前記第 1の基台及び前記第 2の基台の基となる第 3の基台 を用意する第 1の工程と、 前記第 3の基台に V溝を形成する第 2の工程と、 前記 第 3の基台を切断して前記第 1の基台及び第 2の基台を作製する第 3の工程と、 前記第 1の基台の前記 V溝に前記第 1のファイバアレイを載置固定し、 前記第 2 の基台の前記 V溝に前記第 2のファイバァレイを載置固定する第 4の工程と、 前 記第 1の基台の端面に反射部材の一方の端面を固定する第 5の工程と、 前記反射 部材の他方の端面に前記第 2の基台の端面を固定する第 6の工程とを有するよう にしてもよい。
この場合、 前記第 2の工程は、 前記第 3の基台に前記 V溝に加えて位置決め用 溝を形成し、 前記第 3の工程において前記第 3の基台を切断して前記第 1の基台 及び第 2の基台を作製した際に、 前記第 1の基台及び第 2の基台にそれぞれ前記 位置決め用溝の一部が形成される形態とし、 前記第 6の工程は、 前記反射部材の 他方の端面に前記第 2の基台の端面を面合わせし、 該面合わせにて形成される前 記位置決め用溝の部分にガイドビンを挿入して、 前記第 1のファイバアレイと第 2のファイバアレイとを調心し、 その後、 前記反射部材の他方の端面に前記第 2 の基台の端面を固定することが好ましい。 図面の簡単な説明

以下、 本発明に係る光デバイス及びその製造方法の実施の形態例を図 1〜図 1 2を参照しながら説明する。
まず、 第 1の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 O Aは、 図 1に示すように、 第 1 のファイバアレイ部 1 2と、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4とを有する。 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2は、 図 2に示すように、 上面に複数の V溝 1 6が それぞれ平行に配列された第 1の基台 1 8を有する。 各 V溝 1 6には、 それぞれ 固定用の接着剤 2 0を介して光ファイバ 2 2が載置固定されている。 つまり、 こ の第 1の基台 1 8には、 複数の光ファイバ 2 2が配列されてなる光ファイバァレ ィ 2 4が載置固定されている。
また、 図 1に示すように、 第 1の基台 1 8上には、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4を V 溝 1 6 (図 2参照) 側に押さえ付ける 1つの押さえ基板 2 6が固着されている。 第 1の基台 1 8の上面には、 前記 V溝 1 6 (図 2参照) のほか、 光ファイバァ レイ 2 4の被覆部 2 8が載置される載置面 3 0が形成されている。 この載置面 3 0には、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4の被覆部 2 8を固定するためのホルダー 3 2が取 り付けられる。 このホルダ一 3 2で被覆部 2 8を保持することで、 光ファイバァ レイ 2 4が V溝 1 6 (図 2参照) から容易に抜け出たり、 裸部分と被覆部 2 8と の間で屈曲するなどの不都合を回避することができる。 なお、 押さえ基板 2 6と 載置面 3 0とで挟まれた部分は、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4が外部に露出するオーブ ン部 3 4である。
また、 図 3に示すように、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4の端面 4 0の基準面 (例えば 鉛直面) に対する傾斜角度 0 1と、 第 1の基台 1 8の端面 4 2の基準面に対する 傾斜角度 0 2は、 ほぼ同じとされている。 ここで、 前記傾斜角度 0 1及び 0 2と しては、 例えば 1 2 ° 等を採用することができる。 また、 後述する受光素子 4 8 の検出電流におけるチャネル間のクロストークの問題を考慮すると、 前記傾斜角 度 0 1及び Θ 2は、 1 5 ° 〜2 5 ° の範囲であることが望ましい。
更に、 図 1に示すように、 第 1の基台 1 8の端面 4 2から押さえ基板 2 6まで の部分がモニタ部 4 4を構成し、 このモニタ部 4 4において、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4を伝搬する各信号光の一部がそれぞれ取り出されて例えば受光素子アレイ 4 6にて検知されることになる。
受光素子アレイ 4 6は、 図 2に示すように、 複数の受光素子 4 8が、 配線基板 5 0上に実装されて構成され、 各受光素子 4 8は、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4におけ る光ファイバ 2 2の配列ピッチとほぼ同一の配列ピッチで配列されている。 配線 基板 5 0は、 表面に配線パターンが形成されており、 各受光素子 4 8からの検出 信号 (検出電流) がこれら配線パターンを通じて外部回路に取り出されるように なっている。 また、 より高い信頼性を求める場合、 受光素子アレイ 4 6は、 裏面 入射型を採用するとよい。 この場合、 ワイヤが不要となるため、 より高い信頼性 を得ることが可能となる。
受光素子アレイ 4 6の第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2への実装は、 図 2に示すよ うに、 配線基板 5 0の機能面 5 0 a (受光素子 4 8が実装された面) を光フアイ パアレイ 2 4に対向させ、 それぞれ受光素子 4 8と光ファイバ 2 2とが対向する ように位置決めして、 屈折率整合層としての接着剤 5 2を介して固定するように している。 なお、 配線基板 5 0は、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4を跨るように固定され たスぺーサ 5 4 (図 1参照) 上に固定されている。 このスぺーサ 5 4は、 配線基 板 5 0を光ファイバアレイ 2 4に固定する目的のほか、 受光素子 4 8と光フアイ バ 2 2との間隔をある一定の距離以上に設定する目的で備えられる。 ここで、 一 定の距離としては、 例えば受光素子 4 8のパッドから配線基板 5 0に対して配線 されたボンディングワイヤ 5 8 (図 1参照) の高さ等を示し、 この実施の形態で は、 例えば 1 0 0 mに設定される。
一方、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4も、 図 1並びに図 3に示すように、 上面に 複数の V溝 6 0 (図 3参照) がそれぞれ平行に配列された第 2の基台 6 2を有し、 各 V溝 6 0に、 それぞれ固定用の接着剤 6 4を介して光ファイバ 6 6が載置固定 されて、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8が構成されている。
また、 図 1に示すように、 第 2の基台 6 2上にも、 光ファイバアレイ.6 8を V 溝 6 0 (図 3参照) 側に押さえ付ける 1つの押さえ基板 7 0が固着されている。 該第 2の基台 6 2には、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8の被覆部 7 2が載置される載置面 7 4が形成され、 この載置面 7 4にも、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8の被覆部 7 2を固 定するためのホルダー 7 6が取り付けられている。 押さえ基板 7 0と載置面 7 4 とで挟まれた部分は、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8が外部に露出するオープン部 7 8で ある。
また、 図 3に示すように、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0の基準面 (例えば 鉛直面) に対する傾斜角度 0 3と、 第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2の基準面に対する 傾斜角度 0 4は、 ほぼ同じとされている。
更に、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2と第 2のファイノ アレイ部 1 4との関係で は、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4の端面 4 0の傾 斜角度 0 1と、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端 面 8 0の傾斜角度 Θ 3は、 ほぼ同じとされ、 第 1の基台 1 8の端面 4 2の傾斜角 度 0 2と、 第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2の傾斜角度 0 4も、 ほぼ同じとされている。 そして、 この第 1の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 O Aは、 図 1に示すように、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4とが反射部材 9 0を 介して結合されている。
具体的には、 図 3に示すように、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2の端面 (光ファ ィバアレイ 2 4の端面 4 0と第 1の基台 1 8の端面 4 2 ) と反射部材 9 0の一方 の端面 9 2とが屈折率整合層としての接着剤 9 4を介して互いに固定され、 第 2 のファイバアレイ部 1 4の端面 (光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0と第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2 ) と反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6とが屈折率整合層としての接 着剤 9 8を介して互いに固定されている。 反射部材 9 0は、 石英基板 1 0 0と、 該石英基板 1 0 0の一方の端面に形成された多層膜 (ハーフミラー膜 1 0 2 ) を 有する。 従って、 このハーフミラ一膜 1 0 2の端面が反射部材 9 0の一方の端面 9 2を構成する。
ここで、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4の端面 4 0の傾斜角度 θ 1と、 反射部材 9 0の一方の端面 9 2の傾斜角度 ø 5はほぼ同じ とされ、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0 の傾斜角度 0 3と、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6の傾斜角度 Θ 6もほぼ同じと されている。
そのため、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2と反射部材 9 0とを面合わせにて固定 することができ、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4と反射部材 9 0も面合わせにて固 定することができる。
従って、 この第 1の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 O Aにおいては、 図 4に模 式的に示すように、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4 の端面 4 0と反射部材 9 0の一方の端面 9 2との間隔 d 1をサブミクロンレベル にすることが可能となり、 組立て時の貼り付け製造ばらつき等を考慮しても、 間 隔 d 1は 5 m以下にすることができる。 これは、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0との 間隔 d 2でも同様である。
このように、 前記間隔 d 1及び d 2を 5 以下にすることができるため、 例 えば第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2から反射部材 9 0を介して第 2のファイバァレ ィ部 1 4に向けて光 Lを透過させた場合に、 それぞれの界面にて屈折が起きたと しても、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4での透過光 Lの位置ずれ (第 2のファイバ アレイ部 1 4での理想の光軸 mに対する位置ずれ) はほとんど発生せず、 低損失 となる。
また、 図 3に示すように、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4の端面 4 0の傾斜角度 0 1と、 反射部材 9 0の一方の端面 9 2の傾斜角度 0 5がほぼ同じであるため、 反射部材 9 0内において屈折があっても、 前記透過光 Lの位置ずれは大きくなることはな く、 低損失である。
反射部材 9 0を固定した際に、 各端面 9 2及び 9 6の傾斜角度 0 5及び Θ 6が ずれるということがないため、 反射部材 9 0の傾斜角度 0 5及び 0 6を精度よく 管理することができ、 これは、 入射角度のばらつきを抑えることにつながり、 反 射特性や透過特性を所望の特性 (要求特性) に合わせ込むことができる。
また、 反射部材 9 0を面合わせで固定することができることから、 ほとんど接 着剤がない状態にすることができ、 しかも、 各接着剤 9 4及び 9 8の厚みのばら つきも小さくすることができる。 このようなことから、 接着剤 9 4及び 9 8の厚 みに対する制御が容易になり、 反射光の干渉の影響を管理し易くなる。 これは、 干渉の影響をほとんどなくすことにつながり、 特性の向上を図ることができる。 また、 この第 1の実施の形態では、 反射部材 9 0の各端面 9 2及び 9 6に対し て、 それぞれ光ファイバアレイ 2 4及び 6 8の端面 4 0及び 8 0を面合わせする ようにしている。 通常、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4及び 6 8の端面 4 0及び 8 0は、 光学研磨が施されていることから、 反射部材 9 0と面合わせされる端面 4 0及び 8 0は、 ほとんど鏡面とされた端面であり、 これにより、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4 及び 6 8の各端面 4 0及び 8 0で光 Lが発散するということがなくなり、 入射角 度の変動並びに波長や偏光特性の変動等は生じない。
また、 反射部材 9 0は、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2と第 2のファイバアレイ 部 1 4間においてリジットな状態となり、 温度等、 環境の変化があっても、 反射 部材 9 0のみが動くということはなく、 反射特性や透過特性等は安定する。
このように、 第 1の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 O Aにおいては、 モニタリ ング機能を有する光デバイス 1 O Aの透過光 Lの位置ずれによる影響、 入射角度 による特性のばらつき、 干渉の影響、 面状態の特性への影響、 環境変化による特 性変動等の問題を解消することができ、 反射光及び透過光の特性の劣化を抑える ことができる。
ところで、 通常の光ファイバアレイでは、 V溝に光ファイバを載置し押さえ基 板で固定するようにしており、 特に、 光ファイバアレイ上に受光素子を設置する 場合、 押さえ基板上に屈折率整合としての接着剤を介して受光素子を設置するよ うにしている。 このような構成の場合、 反射光が受光素子に到達するまでの距離 が長くなることから、 反射光の受光素子の受光面でのスポット径が大きくなり、 それに伴ってクロストークが大きくなるなど悪影響を与えるおそれがある。
し力、し、 この第 1の実施の形態では、 モニタ部 4 4には押さえ基板 2 6を設置 せずに、 光ファイバ 2 2のクラッド上に屈折率整合としての接着剤 5 2を介して 直接受光素子 4 8を設置するようにしたため、 受光素子 4 8を反射光の発生源ま で極力近づけることができる。 その結果、 クロストークの低減に有効となる。 特に、 この第 1の実施の形態では、 モニタ部 4 4以外の部分に押さえ基板 2 6 を設置するようにしたので、 該部分において、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4を固定する ことができ、 機械的な信頼性の向上も図ることができる。
また、 この第 1の実施の形態では、 スぺーサ 5 4上に配線基板 5 0を設置する ようにしているため、 このスぺ一サ 5 4を前記押さえ基板 2 6として兼用させる ようにしてもよい。 この場合、 押さえ基板 2 6を設置するためのスペースを削減 することも可能となる。
次に、 第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bについて図 5〜図 9を参照し ながら説明する。
この第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bは、 上述した第 1の実施の形態 に係る光デバイス 1 O Aとほぼ同様の構成を有するが、 図 5〜図 7に示すように、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4の各光ファイバ 2 2 のクラッドのうち、 モニタ部 4 4に対応する部分に削り込み加工あるいは研磨加 ェを施して、 例えば底面 1 1 0 aが平坦な凹部 1 1 0 (削り部分) を設けるよう にしている点と、 図 5及び図 7に示すように、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4にお ける光ファイバアレイ 6 8の各光ファイバ 6 6のクラッドのうち、 第 2のフアイ パアレイ部 1 4の端面から押さえ基板 7 0までの部分に削り込み加工又は研磨加 ェを施して、 例えば底面 1 1 2 aが平坦な凹部 1 1 2 (削り部分) を設けるよう にしている点で異なる。 凹部 1 1 2は、 表面粗さ R a < l 0 O n mの鏡面加工さ れることが望ましい。 表面粗さが大きい場合、 透過してくる光の偏光依存性を悪 化させる懸念があるからである。
更に、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2においては、 図 6及び図 7に示すように、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に屈折率整合層としての接着剤 5 2を介して受光素 子アレイ 4 6が固定される。
この第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bにおいては、 上述した第 1の実 施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 O Aの効果に加えて以下のような効果を奏すること となる。
まず、 第 1に、 1 2 5 mピッチ等のように狭い間隔の光ファイバアレイ 2 4 の場合、 受光素子 4 8の受光面積を小さくする必要から、 反射光のスポット径が 限られることと、 配列ピッチが狭いため、 他のチャネルに光が入るというクロス トークの発生が問題となるが、 この第 2の実施の形態では、 クラッドに凹部 1 1 0を設け、 該凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に接着剤 5 2を介して受光素子 4 8を 設置したことから、 反射光の発生源から受光素子 4 8の受光面までの距離を、 第 1の実施の形態の場合よりも更に短くすることができ、 反射光における受光素子 4 8の受光面でのスポット径を小さくすることができる。 これは、 クロスト一ク の低減に有効となる。
第 2に、 図 5に示すように、 削り込み加工又は研磨加工によって形成された前 記凹部 1 1 0における内壁 1 1 O bを、 受光素子 4 8の設置上の基準とすること で、 受光素子 4 8 (並びに受光素子アレイ 4 6 ) の光軸方向に対するパッシブァ ライメントが可能となる。 通常、 受光素子 4 8 (並びに受光素子アレイ 4 6 ) を 設置する場合、 受光素子 4 8からの光をモニタしながら光ファイバ 2 2との光軸 合わせ (光信号の出力が最も強く観測される位置を見つけること) を行って設置 するようにしているが、 前記凹部 1 1 0における内壁 1 1 O bを設置上の基準と することで、 上述のような光信号出力のモニタの手間をなくすことができ、 受光 素子 4 8 (並びに受光素子アレイ 4 6 ) の設置にかかる時間の短縮、 工程の簡略 化を図ることができる。
第 3に、 光ファイバ 2 2の上部における反射光の損失要因の除去が可能となる。 即ち、 例えば図 8 Aに示すように、 V溝 1 6に屈折率整合層を構成しない接着剤 1 1 4を用いて光ファイバ 2 2を固定した場合を想定する。 この場合、 光フアイ バ 2 2のクラッド上に接着剤 1 1 4が残留すると、 この残留した接着剤 (残留接 着剤 1 1 4 a ) の上部に更に接着剤 5 2 (図 6及び図 7参照) を介して受光素子 4 8が設置されることになるが、 クラッドと残留接着剤 1 1 4 aとの界面並びに 残留接着剤 1 1 4 aと接着剤 5 2との界面にて反射光 1 1 6の出力が弱められる こととなる。
一方、 この第 2の実施の形態では、 クラッドに対する削り込み加工又は研磨加 ェによって、 該クラッドに凹部 1 1 0を設けることから、 図 8 Bに示すように、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 aに接着剤 1 1 4が残留するということがない。 そのた め、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に接着剤 5 2を介して受光素子 4 8を設置して も、 前記接着剤 1 1 4による反射光 1 1 6の損失は発生しない。
第 4に、 熱変動に対しても、 受光素子 4 8にて安定に受光を行うことができる。 即ち、 削り込み加工又は研磨加工によって凹部 1 1 0を形成すると、 受光素子 4 8が設置される部分 (凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a ) が平坦面を有する構造となる。 3 009067
16 従って、 図 6に示すように、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に接着剤 5 2を介し て受光素子 4 8を設置する場合等において、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に設け られる接着剤 5 2の厚みを前記凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上において均一とする ことができる。
通常、 円柱状の光ファイバ 2 2上に接着剤 5 2を介して受光素子 4 8を設置す る場合、 受光素子 4 8の受光面をほぼ水平に維持して設置する。 ここで、 受光素 子 4 8の受光面の中心線 (光ファイバ 2 2の光軸に沿った線) を考えたとき、 そ の中心線から左右に向かうほど接着剤 5 2の厚みが大きくなる。 屈折率整合層と して使用される接着剤 5 2は、 熱膨張係数が 2 0 0〜3 0 O X 1 0—7 [ 1 /CC] と大きいために、 接着剤 5 2の厚みが不均一な場合、 熱変動による応力不均一が 無視できない場合がある。 このような応力不均一状態においては、 その屈折率分 布も不均一となる場合があると想定される。
この課題は、 接着剤 5 2の硬化条件 (方法) 等で回避することも可能であるが、 有効な手段の 1つとしては、 この第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bのよ うに、 削り込み加工又は研磨加工によって光ファイバ 2 2のクラッドに凹部 1 1 0を形成することにより、 接着剤 5 2の厚みを均一にすることが挙げられる。
ここで、 その他の好ましい態様について説明する。 削り込み加工又は研磨加工 を行う位置については、 特に限定されるものではないが、 反射部のコア端面から 受光素子 4 8の受光中心までの距離が 5 mmの範囲になる位置であることが望ま しい。 これは反射部材 9 0から受光位置が離れるほど反射モニタ光の受光パワー が減衰してしまうためである。
削り込み量又は研磨量については、 直径 1 2 5 mのシングルモードファイバ の場合、 光ファイバ 2 2の上端部から最小で 2 1 ^ m、 最大で 5 5 mとするこ とが望ましい。
削り込み量又は研磨量の最小値については、 反射光のスポット径が約 1 0 m において損失要因の影響を受けないことを考慮すると、 直径 1 2 5 ファイバ の場合、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 aの幅が最低 1 0 になるように、 最小で 2 1 mの削り量とすることが好ましい。 また、 光ファイバ 2 2におけるコアの周囲には、 コアの内部での全反射による 漏れ光が周囲 2 m程度存在している。 この範囲まで削り込みを行ってしまうと、 コアを伝搬する信号光まで取り出してしまうことになり、 信号光の損失要因とな る。 従って、 削り込みの最大値はこの漏れ光の範囲に及ばないことが好ましい。 例えば直径 1 2 5 z mシングルモードファイバの場合、 5 5 mまで削り込みを 行うことができる。
次に、 第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bを製造する方法について図 7、 図 9〜図 1 1を参照しながら説明する。
まず、 図 9のステップ S 1において、 第 1の基台 1 8と第 2の基台 6 2の基と なる第 3の基台 1 2 0 (図 1 0参照) を用意する。 即ち、 この第 3の基台 1 2 0 は、 第 1の基台 1 8と第 2の基台 6 2とが一体構造された構成を有する。
その後、 ステップ S 2において、 第 3の基台 1 2 0の上面に V溝 1 6 ( 6 0 ) を形成する。 その後、 ステップ S 3において、 第 3の基台 1 2 0を例えば中央 (図 1 0において、 破線で示す部分) で切断して、 第 1の基台 1 8及び第 2の基 台 6 2を作製する。
その後、 ステップ S 4において、 第 1の基台 1 8の V溝 1 6にそれぞれ光ファ ィバ 2 2を載置固定して光ファイバアレイ 2 4を構成し、 同じく第 2の基台 6 2 の V溝 6 0にそれぞれ光ファイバ 6 6を載置固定して光ファイバアレイ 6 8 (図 1 1参照) を構成する。
その後、 ステップ S 5において、 図 7に示すように、 第 1の基台 1 8の端面に 反射部材 9 0の一方の端面 9 2を屈折率整合層としての接着剤 9 4を介して接合 する。 この段階で、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2が構成されることになる。 その 後、 ステップ S 6において、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6を切削研磨して、 反 射部材 9 0の厚みを所望の厚みにする。
その後、 ステップ S 7において、 図 7に示すように、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端 面 9 6に第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2を屈折率整合層としての接着剤 9 8を介して 接合する。 この接合にあたっては、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファ ィバアレイ 2 4の各光ファイバ 2 2と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光フ P T/JP2003/009067
18 アイバアレイ 6 8の各光ファイバ 2 2とを調心して行われる。
その後、 ステップ S 8において、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファ ィパアレイ 2 4のモニタ部 4 4上に受光素子アレイ 4 6を設置する。 具体的には、 配線基板 5 0の機能面 5 0 aの一部にスぺーサ 5 4を貼り付け、 更に、 配線基板 5 0の機能面 5 0 aを下向きにした状態でスぺーサ 5 4を光ファイバアレイ 2 4 を跨るようにして、 該光ファイバアレイ 2 4上、 即ち、 凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 a上に載置固定する。 このとき、 各受光素子 4 8がそれぞれ光ファイバ 2 2に対 応するように位置決めして載置固定される。 この固定にあたっては、 光ファイバ アレイ 2 4と受光素子ァレイ 4 6間に屈折率整合層としての接着剤 5 2を介在さ せることによって行われる。
前記ステップ S 8での工程が終了した段階で、 この第 2の実施の形態に係る光 デバイス 1 0 Bが完成する。
次に、 第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bのいくつかの変形例について 図 1 0〜図 1 2も参照しながら説明する。
まず、 第 1の変形例に係る光デパイス 1 O B aは、 上述した第 2の実施の形態 に係る光デバイス 1 0 Bとほぼ同様の構成を有するが、 図 1 1に示すように、 第 1の基台 1 8及び第 2の基台 6 2の各上面のうち、 V溝 1 6及び 6 0が形成され た部分の両側に、 第 1及び第 2の基台 1 8及び 6 2において連続するガイド溝 1 3 0が形成され、 更に、 このガイド溝 1 3 0にガイドビン 1 3 2が揷入されてい る点で異なる。
第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4とを反射部材 9 0 を介して接合する場合、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光ファイバアレイ 6 8とを調心して 接合する必要があるが、 この調心においては、 それぞれ対向させる光ファイバ 2 2の相対位置が一致していればよい。
この第 1の変形例に係る光デバイス 1 0 B aでは、 上述のように、 第 1の基台 1 8と第 2の基台 6 2にかけて連続形成されたガイド溝 1 3 0にガイドピン 1 3 2を挿入するようにしているため、 光ファイバアレイ 2 4における各光ファイバ 2 2と光ファイバアレイ 6 8における各光ファイバ 2 2との相対位置を簡単に一 致させることができる。
つまり、 通常、 調心は、 光ファイバ 2 2の透過光の強度等を検出しながら行う、 いわゆるアクティブァライメントが必要であるが、 この第 1の変形例では、 ガイ ド溝 1 3 0にガイドピン 1 3 2を揷入するだけで、 調心を行うことができるため、 パッシブァライメントが容易に実現でき、 コスト的に有利となる。 なお、 ガイド ピン 1 3 2は、 各光ファイバアレイ 2 4及び 6 8を調心固定した後は、 不要であ るため、 除去してもよい。
そして、 この第 1の変形例に係る光デバイス 1 O B aの具体的な製造方法とし ては、 例えば図 9のステップ S 2において、 第 3の基台 1 2 0の上面に前記 V溝 1 6 ( 6 0 ) に加えてガイド溝 1 3 0 (図 1 0参照) を形成する。 そして、 ステ ップ S 3において、 第 3の基台 1 2 0を切断して、 第 1の基台 1 8及び第 2の基 台 6 2を作製した際に、 第 1の基台 1 8及び第 2の基台 6 2にそれぞれガイド溝 1 3 0の一部が形成される形態とする。
その後、 ステップ S 7において、 図 7に示すように、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端 面 9 6に第 2の基台 6 2を接着剤 9 4 介して面合わせした際に、 図 1 1に示す ように、 その面合わせによって形成されるガイド溝 1 3 0 (第 1及び第 2の基台 1 8及び 6 2にわたつて連続形成された形態となっている) にガイドピン 1 3 2 を挿入する。 このガイドピン 1 3 2の揷入によって、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4における光ファ ィバアレイ 6 8の各光ファイバ 2 2の相対位置が一致することとなる。 即ち、 パ ッシブァライメントにて光ファイバアレイ 2 4と光ファイバアレイ 6 8とが調心 される。 その後、 接着剤 9 4を硬化して反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6に第 2の ファイバアレイ部 1 4の端面 (第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2及び光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0 ) を固定し、 その後、 ステップ S 8を経てこの第 1の変形例に係 る光デバイス 1 0 B aが完成する。
次に、 第 2の変形例に係る光デバイス 1 O B bは、 図 1 2に示すように、 第 2 のファイバアレイ部 1 4が途中で切断された形状を有し、 該第 2のファイバァレ ィ部 14の他端面 140の傾斜角度 (基準面とのなす角) は、 6° 〜8° に設定 されている。
そして、 この他端面 140には、 AWG (アレイ導波路) 等の PLC (プレー ナ導波路回路) や MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) 型の光スィッチ 等の光学部品 142が接続される。
上述した第 1の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 10 A及び第 2の実施の形態に係 る光デパイス 10 B (第 1及び第 2の変形例 1 0 B a及び 1 0 B bを含む) にお いては、 反射部材 90として、 石英基板 100にハーフミラー膜 102を形成し た例を示したが、 その他、 屈折率が石英と等しい、 あるいはほぼ等しいポリイミ ドフィルムの一方の端面にハーフミラ一膜 102を形成して反射部材を構成して もよい。
次に、 第 2の実施の形態に係る光デバイス 1 08を12心のモニタリング機能 付きファイバアレイ (250 mピッチ) に適用した実施例について図 5〜図 7、 図 10及び図 1 1を参照しながら説明する。 なお、 図 1 0及び図 1 1は、 8チヤ ネルの光デバイス 10 B a、 1 0 B cを示しているが、 基本構造は 12心のモニ 夕リング機能付きファイバアレイと同じである。
まず、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 12を作製した。 この第 1のファイバアレイ部 12は、 図 5に示すように、 押さえ基板 26が設置された部分の長さが 3mm、 モニタ部 44の長さが 3 mm、 載置面 30の長さが 3 mm、 オープン部 34の長 さが 2mmであって、 全長 1 1mmとした。 厚みは、 第 1の基台 18、 押さえ基 板 26とも 1. 5 mmであり、 幅は 5 mmとした。 図 7に示すように、 光フアイ バァレイ 24の端面 40の傾斜角度 0 1及び第 1の基台 18の端面 42の傾斜角 度 Θ 2を共に 12° とした。
次に、 第 2のファイバアレイ部 14を作製した。 この第 2のファイバアレイ部 は、 図 5に示すように、 押さえ基板 70が設置された部分の長さが 3mm、 第 2 の基台 62の端面 80から押さえ基板 70までの長さが 2mm、 載置面 74の長 さが 3mm、 オープン部 78の長さが 2mmであって、 全長 1 0mmとした。 厚 みは、 第 2の基台 62、 押さえ基板 70とも 1. 5mmであり、 幅は 5mmとし た。 図 7に示すように、 光ファイバアレイ 6 8の端面 8 0の傾斜角度 S 3及び第 2の基台 6 2の端面 8 2の傾斜角度 0 4を共に 1 2 ° とした。
反射部材 9 0として、 厚み 0 . 5 mmの石英基板 1 0 0の一方の端面に多層膜 を設けた。 この多層膜は、 入射角度 1 2 ° で反射 1 0 %、 透過 9 0 %となるハー フミラー膜 1 0 2とした。
第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2の端面に、 反射部材 9 0を接着剤 9 4にて貼り付 けた。 このとき、 ハーフミラー膜 1 0 2が形成されている端面 9 2を第 1のファ ィバアレイ部 1 2の端面に貼り付けた。 接着剤 9 4として、 屈折率が波長 1 5 5 O n mで光ファイバ 2 2のクラッドと一致する接着剤を用いた (屈折率 = 1 . 4 5 ) 。
その後、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6を通常のファイバアレイの研磨で使用 する研磨方式で研磨加工を行った。 このとき、 石英基板 1 0 0の厚みが 2 0 u rn となるまで研磨を施した。 最終的には光学研磨を施し、 反射部材 9 0の他方の端 面 9 6も鏡面とした。
次に、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4の各光ファ ィバ 2 2のクラッドのうち、 モニタ部 4 4に対応する部分に対して平面研削盤に よる研磨を施して、 例えば底面 1 1 0 aが平坦な凹部 1 1 0を設けた。 光フアイ バ 2 2の各コアの中心から 2 0 mの位置に凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 aが位置す るように研磨を施した。
第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2に貼り付けられた反射部材 9 0の他方の端面 9 6 と第 2のファイバアレイ部 1 4の端面とを接着剤 9 8を介して面合わせし、 更に、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4と第 2のファイバァ レイ部 1 4における光ファイバアレイ 6 8とを調心し、 前記接着剤 ·9 8にて固定 した。 この接着剤 9 8も、 屈折率が波長 1 5 5 0 n mで光ファイバ 6 6のクラッ ドと一致する接着剤を用いた (屈折率 = 1 . 4 5 ) 。
次に、 受光素子アレイ 4 6の準備を行った。 各受光素子 4 8の表面は、 屈折率 1 . 4 5 (石英) に対する ARコートを施した。 配線基板 5 0にはアルミナを採 用し、 厚み l mmとした。 受光素子 4 8は厚みが 2 0 0 mのものを用いた。 ま た、 光ファイバ 2 2と受光素子 4 8との間隔が、 ボンディングワイヤ 5 8 (図 5 参照) が光ファイバ 2 2に接触しない程度の距離である 1 0 0 mになるように、 配線基板 5 0の機能面 5 0 aに厚み 3 0 0 mのスぺーサ 5 4を貼り付けた。
次に、 受光素子アレイ 4 6の設置を行った。 反射部材 9 0の端部を撮像し、 該 端部の画像を見ながら、 受光素子アレイ 4 6をラフに位置決めした後、 受光素子 アレイ 4 6の受光素子 4 8と光ファイバ 2 2との間に屈折率整合層としての接着 剤 5 2を塗布した。 このとき、 スぺーサ 5 4の下面が光ファイバ 2 2の各凹部 1 1 0の底面 1 1 0 aに当接するように設置した。 また、 この接着剤 5 2は光ファ ィバ 2 2のクラッド (石英) から外方に光が抜ける際に反射が発生しないように、 屈折率 1 . 4 5の紫外線硬化型接着剤を用いた。
次に、 第 1のファイバアレイ部 1 2における光ファイバアレイ 2 4の他端から 波長 1 . 5 5 のレーザ光 Lを入射し、 反射部材 9 0を介して反射される反射 光を受光素子ァレイ 4 6で受け、 反射光の強度をモニタしながら、 強度が最大と なるように受光素子アレイ 4 6の設置位置を微調整した。 このとき、 1 じ 11と1 2 c hのみの反射光の強度をモニタしながら調整を行った。 反射光の強度のモニ タは配線基板 5 0上に形成された配線パターンにプローブを当てて検出した。
次に、 受光素子アレイ 4 6の接着剤 5 2に対して紫外線を照射して仮硬化した。 実際には、 配線基板 5 0がアルミナで構成され、 紫外線が透過しないため、 まず、 紫外線照射装置に、 この実施例に係るファイバアレイを、 ある方向で設置して、 配線基板 5 0の周囲から紫外線を照射し、 周辺の接着剤 5 2を硬化した。
その後、 紫外線照射装置からファイバアレイを一旦外した後、 今度は、 向きを 変えて設置して、 受光素子アレイ 4 6の設置面と逆の面 (裏面) から紫外線を照 射して接着剤 5 2の本硬化を行った。
その後、 接着剤 5 2の熱養生を行った後、 検査を行った。 反射光としては、 1 3 d Bの強度を確保した。 P D L (偏波面依存損失) = 0 . 1 5 d B、 WD L (波長依存損失) = 0 . 5 d B、 チャネル間のクロストークは 3 0 d Bと良好で あった。
また、 信号光 (透過) への損失は、 反射光分の減衰を含め、 l d Bの損失であ り、 PDL=0. l dB、 WDL=0. 2 d B、 チャネル間のクロス! ^一ク 50 dBと良好であった。
なお、 この発明に係る光デバイス及びその製造方法は、 上述の実施の形態に限 らず、 この発明の要旨を逸脱することなく、 種々の構成を採り得ることはもちろ んである。 産業上の利用可能性
以上説明したように、 本発明に係る光デバイス及びその製造方法によれば、 モ 二タリング機能を有する光デバイスの透過光の位置ずれによる影響、 入射角度に よる特性のばらつき、 干渉の影響、 面状態の特性への影響、 環境変化による特性 変動等の問題を解消することができ、 反射光及び透過光の特性の劣化を抑えるこ とができる。

1. 1以上の光ファイバ (22) を有する第 1のファイバアレイ (24) を通過 する光 (L) の反射光を、 該第 1のファイバアレイ (24) の外方へ導く構造を 有する光デパイスにおいて、
前記第 1のファイバアレイ (24) と、
1以上の光ファイバ (66) を有する第 2のファイバアレイ (68) と、 前記第 1のファイバアレイ (24) の端面 (40) と前記第 2のファイバァレ ィ (68) の端面 (80) との間に配された反射部材 (90) とを有し、
前記反射部材 (90) は屈折率整合部材 (94, 98) を介して前記第 1のフ アイバアレイ (24) と前記第 2のファイバアレイ (68) との間に固定されて いることを特徴とする光デバイス。

少なくとも前記第 1のファイバアレイ (24) の端面 (40) の基準面に対す る傾斜角度と、 前記反射部材 (90) の前記第 1のファイバアレイ (24) と対 向する端面 (92) の前記基準面に対する傾斜角度とがほぼ同じであることを特 徵とする光デバイス。

11. 請求項 10記載の光デバイスの製造方法において、
前記第 2の工程は、 前記第 3の基台 (120) に前記 V溝 (16、 60) に加 えて位置決め用溝 (130) を形成し、
前記第 3の工程において前記第 3の基台 (120) を切断して前記第 1の基台 (18) 及び第 2の基台 (62) を作製した際に、 前記第 1の基台 (18) 及び 第 2の基台 (62) にそれぞれ前記位置決め用溝 (130) の一部が形成される 形態とし、 ' 前記第 6の工程は、 前記反射部材 (90) の他方の端面 (96) に前記第 2の 基台 (62) の端面 (82) を面合わせし、 該面合わせにて形成される前記位置 決め用溝 (130) の部分にガイドピン (132) を挿入して、 前記第 1のファ ィバアレイ (24) と第 2のファイバアレイ (68) とを調心し、 その後、 前記 反射部材 (9.0) の他方の端面 (96) に前記第 2の基台 (62) の端面 (8 2) を固定することを特徴とする光デバイスの製造方法。
