Abstract
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureestern durch Veresterung von (Meth)Acrylsäure mit einem Polyalkylenglykol oder einem Polyalkylenglycolmonoalkylether in Gegenwart von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysator.

Verfahren zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureestern unter Verwendung von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysatoren
Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)-acrylsäureestem, die als Comonomere für die Herstellung von Polymeren mit speziellen Eigenschaften (z.B. Fließverbesserern oder Verdickern) verwendet werden können, indem man Heteropolysäuren als Veresterungskatalysatoren verwendet.
Nach dem Stand der Technik werden verschiedene Methoden zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureestern verwendet wie z. B die Umsetzung von Säurehalogeniden mit den Alkoholen, die Umesterung von (Meth)acrylsäure(m)ethylestern und die Direktveresterung. Von Nachteil ist hierbei u.a. die Verwendung von halogenhaltigen Reagenzien und Lösungsmitteln, die nach der Reaktion bei der Verwendung des Produktes stören können.
EP-A-1 090 901 offenbart die Direktveresterung von IVIethylpolyethylenglykolen mit Methacrylsäure unter Verwendung von Schwefelsäure als Katalysator.
Bekannt ist, dass Heteropolysäuren als Veresterungskatalysatoren verwendet werden können.
WO-02/0589 und WO-02/00591 offenbaren, dass aus Olefinen und aliphatischen Carbonsäuren Ester hergestellt werden können, indem man Heteropolysäuren als Katalysatoren verwendet.
In Chem. Rev., 1998, 98, 171-198 werden Heteropolysäuren und deren Anwendungen als Katalysatoren zusammengefasst.
Die genannten Schriften offenbaren allerdings keine Verfahren, die zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)Polyalkylenglykolestem der (Meth)Acrylsäure geeignet wären.
Aufgabe vorliegender Erfindung war es, ein verbessertes Verfahren zur Herstellung der (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureester zu finden. Aufgabe vorliegender Erfindung war es insbesondere, ein Verfahren zur Darstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureestern zu entwickeln, das ohne halogenhaltige Verbindungen und Lösungsmittel auskommt.
Überraschenderweise wurde nun gefunden, dass sich durch Verwendung von festen Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salze als Katalysatoren oder (Co)- Katalysatoren die Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglykol(meth)acrylsäurestern besser durchführen lässt, als mit einfachen Mineralsäuren wie z.B. Schwefelsäure, Phosphorsäure, Salzsäure, oder organischen Säuren wie z.B. Methansulfonsäure, Toluolsulfonsäure oder Alkylbenzolsulfonsäure.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist somit ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureestern durch Veresterung von (Meth)Acrylsäure mit einem Polyalkylenglykol oder einem Polyalkylenglycolmonoalkylether in Gegenwart von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysator.
Ein weiterer Gegenstand der Erfindung ist die Verwendung von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysator bei der Veresterung von (Meth)Acrylsäure mit einem Polyalkylenglykol oder einem Polyalkylenglycolmonoalkylether.
Die so erhaltenen (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)acrylsäureester entsprechen vorzugsweise der Formel 1 oder der Formel 2,
worin n eine Zahl von 1 bis 150,
R1 Wasserstoff oder Methyl,
R2 Wasserstoff, Methyl oder Ethyl,
R3 Wasserstoff oder Alkyl mit 1 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatomen darstellen.
Die Polyalkyleneinheiten können blockweise oder statistisch angeordnet sein.
Die Verbindungen der Formeln 1 oder 2 sind durch die Umsetzung von (Alkyl)Polyalkylenglykolethern der Formeln 3 und 4
worin R2, R3 und n die oben angegebene Bedeutung haben, mit (Meth)Acrylsäure durch das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren erhältlich. Die Umsetzung von Verbindungen der Formel 3 führt zu den Verbindungen der Formel 1 , die
Umsetzung von Verbindungen der Formel 4 führt zu Verbindungen der Formel 2.
Heteropolysäuren sind komplexe Protonensäuren die sich von Heteropolyanionen ableiten lassen. Heteropolyanionen des Keggin-Typs lassen sich beispielsweise durch die Formel ZM-ι20 ox"8 beschreiben, worin Z für ein Zentralatom
(beispielsweise Si4+, Ge4+, P5+), x für dessen Oxidationsstufe und M für ein Metallatom (beispielsweise Mo6+, W6+, V5+, Co2+, Zn2+) steht. Aus diesem Strukturelement leiten sich Heteropolysäuren wie z. B. Siliziumwolframsäure (H4SiWι2O40), Phosphorwolframsäure (H3PWι204o). Phosphormolybdänsäure, Siliziumvanadiumsäure, Cobaltwolframsäure oder Phosphormolybdovanadiumsäure ab.
Neben den Keggin-Typen gibt es auch Heteropolysäuren, die sich von Heteropolyanionen wie beispielsweise Z2Mι8O62 2x"16 > ZMnO3g 2x"12 oder Z2Mι7θ6i2x"20 ableiten lassen. Z, x und M haben die gleiche Bedeutung wie oben.
Neben den Heteropolysäuren können auch deren Salze verwendet werden. Hierbei werden die aziden Protonen teilweise oder vollständig durch Kationen wie NH4 +, Li+, Na+, K\ Rb+, Cs+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, etc. ersetzt.
Die genannten Heteropolysäuren und deren Salze können auch auf einem geeigneten Trägermaterial wie beispielsweise Aktivkohle, Siliziumoxid, Zirkonoxid oder Titanoxid fixiert werden.
Das hier beschriebene Verfahren zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass
Polyalkylenglykole der Formel 3 oder 4 mit (Meth)Acrylsäure ohne Verwendung von Lösungsmitteln zu den entsprechenden Estern umgesetzt werden. Hierbei wird die Säure im Überschuss eingesetzt. Für eine zu verestemde Hydroxyfunktion werden vorzugsweise 1 ,1 bis 4,5 Äquivalente Säure eingesetzt. Die Reaktionstemperaturen betragen vorzugsweise 90 bis 150°C. Bei der
Veresterung werden das entstehende Wasser als Azeotrop mit (Meth)Acrylsäure und die überschüssige (Meth)Acrylsäure abdestilliert. Es wird vorzugsweise bei Drücken von 1013 mbar (Normaldruck) bis 5 mbar gearbeitet. Es ist auch möglich, die abdestillierte (Meth)Acrylsäure wiederzuverwenden. Als Katalysator werden Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salze zusammen mit Mineralsäure oder organischer Säure verwendet.
Der Gesamtmenge an Katalysator beträgt vorzugsweise 0,2 bis 2 Gew.-%,
bezogen auf das Polyalkylenglykol. Als Katalysator kann eine Mischung aus Mineralsäuren bzw. organische Säuren (z.B. Schwefelsäure, Phosphorsäure, Salzsäure, oder organischen Säuren wie z.B. Methansulfonsäure, Toluolsulfonsäure, Alkylbenzolsulfonsäure) und Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salze verwendet werden.
Hierbei kann die Zusammensetzung des Katalysators von 99 % Mineralsäure bzw. organische Säure und 1 % Heteropolysäure bis 100 % Heteropolysäure(salz) gewählt werden.
Als Inhibitoren können Chinone wie beispielsweise p-Benzochinon, p-Methoxyphenol, Naphtochinon, Cupferron oder auch Phenothiazin einzeln oder als Mischung verwendet werden. Der Gehalt an Inhibitor beträgt vorzugsweise von 0,02 bis 0,4 Gew.-%.
Beispiele
Beispiel 1 :
Ein Gemisch aus 500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren
Molmasse von 2000, 43 g Methacrylsäure, 1 ,42 g Schwefelsäure, 0,47 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,1 g Phenothiazin und 0,03 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 140°C angehoben und der Druck auf ca. 110 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 22 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 480 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 2: Ein Gemisch aus 500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 2000, 38 g Methacrylsäure, 1,41 g Schwefelsäure, 0,47 g Phosphorwolframsäure (getrocknet), 0,1 g Phenothiazin und 0,03 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in
Beispiel 1) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 140°C angehoben und der Druck auf ca. 110 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 21 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 460 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 3: (Vergleich) Ein Gemisch aus 500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 2000, 38 g Methacrylsäure, 1,41 g Schwefelsäure, 0,1 g Phenothiazin und 0,03 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 1) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 140°C angehoben und der Druck auf ca. 110 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus
Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 40 Stunden Reaktionszeit konnte lediglich ein Umsetzungsgrad von 75 % erreicht werden.
Beispiel 4:
Ein Gemisch aus 3000 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 1100, 376 g Methacrylsäure, 10 g Schwefelsäure, 3,4 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,82 g Phenothiazin und 0,17 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einem Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 700 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf
130°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 60 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 23 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 3010 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 5:
Ein Gemisch aus 3000 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 1100, 376 g Methacrylsäure, 6,8 g Schwefelsäure, 6,8 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,82 g Phenothiazin und 0,17 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 4) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 700 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 130°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 60 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 25 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 3020 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 6:
Ein Gemisch aus 1500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 750, 276 g Methacrylsäure, 5 g Schwefelsäure, 5 g
Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,6 g Phenothiazin und 0,12 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der
Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 24 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 1660 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 7:
Ein Gemisch aus 1500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 750, 276 g Methacrylsäure, 5 g Methansulfonsäure, 5 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,6 g Phenothiazin und 0,12 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 6) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl

Beispiel 8: Ein Gemisch aus 1500 g eines Methylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 750, 276 g Methacrylsäure, 5 g Methansulfonsäure, 5 g Siliziumwolframsäure, 0,6 g Phenothiazin und 0,12 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 6) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 24 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 1610 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.

Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,6 g Phenothiazin und 0,12 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 6) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur
langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 24 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 1660 g des gewünschten Methylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 11 :
Ein Gemisch aus 510 g eines Alkylpolyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 510, 137 g Methacrylsäure, 2,5 g Schwefelsäure, 2,5 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,3 g Phenothiazin und 0,06 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 6) auf 100°C erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 24 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 490 g des gewünschten Alklylpolyglykolmethacrylsäureesters.
Beispiel 12: Ein Gemisch aus 1200 g eines Polyalkylenglykols mit einer mittleren Molmasse von 600, 258 g Methacrylsäure, 5 g Schwefelsäure, 5 g Phosphorwolframsäure, 0,6 g Phenothiazin und 0,12 g p-Methoxyphenol wurde in einen Rührkolben gegeben. Es wurde (wie in Beispiel 6) auf 100X erwärmt und ein Vakuum von ca. 200 mbar angelegt. Anschließend wurde die Temperatur langsam bis auf 120°C angehoben und der Druck nach und nach auf ca. 100 mbar erniedrigt, wobei ein Gemisch aus Reaktionswasser und Methacrylsäure abdestilliert wurde. Der Reaktionsverlauf wurde über die Verseifungszahl beobachtet. Nach 26 Stunden Reaktionszeit war die Umsetzung vollständig. Man erhielt 1100 g des gewünschten Polyalkylenglykolmethacrylsäurediesters.

Claims
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von (Alkyl)polyalkylenglycol(meth)- acrylsäureestern durch Veresterung von (Meth)Acrylsäure mit einem Polyalkylenglykol oder einem Polyalkylenglycolmonoalkylether in Gegenwart von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysator.
2. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 , worin die Polyalkylenglykole den Formeln
entsprechen, worin n eine Zahl von 1 bis 150,
R2 Wasserstoff, Methyl oder Ethyl,
R3 Wasserstoff oder Alkyl mit 1 bis 30 Kohlenstoffatomen darstellen.
3. Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1 und/oder 2, worin die Heteropolysäuren aus der Gruppe bestehend aus Siliziumwolframsäure, Phosphorwolframsäure, Phosphormolybdänsäure, Siliziumvanadiumsäure, Cobaltwolframsäure oder Phosphormolybdovanadiumsäure ausgewählt sind.
4. Verfahren gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, worin Salze der Heteropolysäuren verwendet werden.
Verfahren gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, worin die Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salze auf einem geeigneten Trägermaterial fixiert sind.
6. Verfahren gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, worin die Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salze zusammen mit Mineralsäure verwendet werden.
7. Verfahren gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, worin die Menge an Heteropolysäuren oder deren Salzen 0,2 bis 2 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Polyalkylenglykol, beträgt.
8. Verfahren gemäß einem oder mehreren der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, worin zusätzlich 0,02 bis 0,4 Gew.-% Inhibitoren verwendet werden.
9. Verwendung von Heteropolysäuren als Katalysator bei der Veresterung von (Meth)Acrylsäure mit einem Polyalkylenglykol oder einem Polyalkylenglycolmonoalkylether.
