Abstract

L'invention concerne des verres luminescents à efficacité élevée conçus en particulier pour être utilisés en tant que matériaux scintillants pour détecter une radiation ionisante. L'invention se rapporte en outre à un procédé de production correspondant. Ces verres sont obtenus au moyen d'une réaction sol-gel suivie d'une densification ainsi que d'une préfusion, et sont caractérisés en ce qu'ils sont fondamentalement constitués de matrices vitreuses de silice extrêmement pure ou de silice/germanium à haut degré de pureté, comprenant au moins un dopant présentant des propriétés luminescentes, et en ce qu'ils présentent des caractéristiques élevées d'émission même si la teneur en dopant est relativement faible. Les verres selon l'invention conviennent en particulier pour produire des fibres optiques scintillantes à haute performance.
