Abstract

L'invention concerne un revêtement textile durable à propriétés antimicrobiennes, tel que la solidité de la couleur, le toucher et la capacité d'absorption du textile ne sont pas modifiées de manière significative par rapport à un textile dépourvu de ce revêtement. En particulier, ce revêtement appliqué sur des serviettes en coton ou en coton mélangé, par exemple, permet de réduire fortement ou d'éliminer les moisissures, champignons et bactéries présents sur celles-ci ; ce qui permet de réduire efficacement les taches et les odeurs de ces serviettes. Plus particulièrement, ce revêtement à base de micro-émulsion comporte un polyuréthanne, un plastifiant et un agent antimicrobien. Le revêtement à base de micro-émulsion (composition antimicrobienne) renferme d'environ 90 à environ 95 % en poids de polyuréthanne ou de co-polyuréthanne ; d'environ 1 à environ 5 % en poids de plastifiant ; et d'environ 1 à 5 % en poids d'agent antimicrobien, le total atteignant 100 pour cent. On obtient ensuite une composition de revêtement pour textiles à l'aide de cette composition de micro-émulsion en mélangeant de 3 à 7 parties de la composition antimicrobienne avec 93 à 97 parties d'eau (pour un total de 100 parties). Cette composition aqueuse est ensuite appliquée sur un textile et séchée. Le textile revêtu antimicrobien garde son efficacité pendant au moins 50 lavages, conformément à la méthode d'essai AATCC 147-1993.
