Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for balancing a force capable of guiding a load on a given trajectory, in particular a linear trajectory.
- Balancing devices of this type comprise an articulated mechanism formed by a proximal arm carried by a support and wedged on a first axis of rotation and by a distal arm carried by the proximal arm and wedged around a second axis of rotation which extends parallel to the first axis, and in which the distal arm has a free end which carries a load.
- a balancing device with two articulated arms of this type has multiple applications, in particular in the field of manipulators, transfer devices, etc. It can also be used as a pantograph, in particular a rail pantograph for electric locomotives.
- pneumatic solutions are known using a jack which ensures the suspension of the load and / or its displacement, for example in the vertical direction.
- the object of the invention is in particular to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks.
- It aims in particular to provide a force balancing device, with high performance, which makes it possible to guide a load on a trajectory, and this with a high bandwidth.
- a device for balancing a force which comprises first balancing means with high bandwidth having a first output axis and acting on the proximal arm, second means of balancing with high bandwidth having a second output axis and acting on the distal arm, as well as coordination means with high bandwidth, interposed between the first balancing means and the second balancing means for coordinating the movements of respective rotation of the proximal arm and the distal arm.
- the invention makes it possible to separately balance the proximal arm and the distal arm of the articulated mechanism, and this thanks to first balancing means and second balancing means which are coordinated with one another. This minimizes the inertia brought back to the balancing system and the transmission elasticities of the proximal arm and the distal arm.
- balancing means have a high bandwidth, which means a bandwidth of the order of a hundred Hertz, and this without adding appreciable friction and inertia.
- the bandwidth reflects the ability of a mechanical system to react to transient phenomena. In fact, this reflects the ability of said system to maintain its performance for stresses which, in the present case, can be of the order of a hundred Hertz, which can also be defined as a response time of the order of a hundredth of a second.
- the device comprises a balancer capable of providing a sinusoidal mechanical torque and having two output axes which have synchronized speeds of rotation but in opposite directions, and in which these two output axes are linked in rotation respectively with the first axis of rotation of the proximal arm and with the second axis of rotation of the distal arm.
- such a balancer can be of the type described in French patent No. 88 02 423 (published under No. 2 627 718).
- Such a known balancer which is purely mechanical, is generally used to balance the forces acting on an arm stressed by a load, such as a tool. It provides a rigorous balancing of the arm, whatever its angular position, and can rotate 360 °, allowing the load to describe a circular trajectory.
- This known balancer offers the advantage of providing a sinusoidal torque with excellent efficiency and a high bandwidth, that is to say mechanical balancing with low response time.
- the balancing device ensures a displacement synchronous of the two arms allowing a single operation of the load, regardless of the distribution of the loads on each of the two arms of the articulated mechanism.
- one of the two output axes of the balancer constitutes the axis of rotation of the proximal arm, while the other output axis is coupled to the axis of rotation of the distal arm by transmission means.
- transmission means for this, use may be made of different mechanical means, in particular means having at least one deformable parallelogram.
- the proximal arm and the distal arm have the same length.
- the load can then move on a rectilinear trajectory with an amplitude of movement corresponding to four times the length of each of the aforementioned arms.
- the device comprises an additional motorization formed by at least one actuator coupled to at least one movable member of the device.
- Such a motorization can be used for different purposes, in particular for moving the articulated mechanism from one to the other of two positions which include a service position and a storage position.
- these adjustment means comprise a mass displaceable on the proximal arm or the distal arm.
- the device may include an additional motorization, controlled by a force sensor placed in a location chosen to allow either to assist an operator in the case of manual movement, or to provide a force constant on a given organ.
- the free end of the distal arm carries the bows of a railway pantograph capable of capturing the electrical energy of a catenary, so that the load is here formed by the force exerted the bows on the catenary.
- the device comprises at least one accessory, in particular a fin, which is mounted integral in rotation of the second output axis, by being either mounted on this second output axis or mounted idly on the first output axis, which has a chosen geometry and which moves parallel to the distal arm, of which it is also integral in rotation, this accessory being arranged on a radius of gyration such that its penetration in the air generates an equal and opposite torque to the penetration torque in the air of the articulated mechanism (that is to say here of the pantograph), these two couples s' canceling out in binding mechanics.
- the balancing means of the invention may, as a variant, include motorization means.
- a servo motorization makes it possible to provide the inertial forces linked to the movement, on the vertical axis, of the entire structure. This is to avoid that the effort produced by the bows on the catenary is not disturbed by these movements.
- This servo motorization will moreover be able to compensate for the imperfection of the torque defined by the fin mentioned above, or even to compensate for its absence.
- This motorization comprises an electric motor coupled to an endless screw cooperating with a nut, this nut being carried by a crank coupled to one of the first output axis and the second output axis, servo means being provided for controlling the electric motor from a control signal delivered by a force sensor carried at the free end of the distal arm.
- the worm is advantageously a reversible screw driven by the electric motor via a reduction gear, a clutch mechanism being interposed between the reduction gear and the worm.
- This reducer makes it possible to put an endless screw with large pitch, reversible and with high reverse efficiency.
- control means comprise a tachometric dynamo driven by the electric motor and capable of delivering a speed signal, a first operational amplifier (speed loop) receiving this speed signal and producing a first output signal, a second amplifier.
- operational current loop
- power amplifier receiving this second output signal and delivering an output current sent to the electric motor and whose image of this output current is sent to the second operational amplifier, the control signal delivered by the force sensor being applied to the input of the second operational amplifier (current loop).
- the servo motorization can also be used as a service system in order to ensure deployment and folding.
- This deployment and folding mechanism is of particular interest in the case where the free end of the distal arm carries the bows of a rail pantograph.
- this mechanism is suitable for receiving a control signal applied to the first operational amplifier (speed loop) in order to fold or deploy the articulated mechanism. This signal will then have priority over the signal from the force sensor brought back to the current loop.
- this mechanism can receive an emergency signal applied to the first operational amplifier (speed loop) to carry out the folding of the articulated mechanism in the event of an emergency.
- This signal will also priority over the signal from the force sensor brought back to the current loop.
- control means comprise corrective means capable of carrying out a correction between the control signal delivered by the force sensor and the actual force exerted on the load, this in order to to compensate for the inertial forces linked to the mechanics placed downstream of the sensor, in particular to the mass of the bows in the case of a rail pantograph.
- corrective means comprise derivative means capable of deriving with respect to time the variations in speed taken from the tachometric dynamo and applying them to the input of the second operational amplifier.

- FIG. 2 is a diagram of a balancing device according to a second embodiment of the invention.
- FIG. 3 is a side view of a balancing device according to a third embodiment of the invention applied to a rail pantograph;
- FIG. 4 is a front view corresponding to Figure 3;
- FIG. 5 represents motorization means according to the invention;
- Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 3 incorporating the motor means of Figure 5;
- FIG. 7 represents a control circuit forming part of the motorization means of FIGS. 5 and 6.
- the balancing device shown in FIG. 1 comprises an articulated mechanism 10 formed by a proximal arm 12 and a distal arm 14.
- the proximal arm 12 is carried by a support 16 which is here formed by the frame or body d '' a balancer 18.
- This balancer is advantageously of the type described in French patent n ° 88,02423 already cited. It has two axes or output shafts 20 and 22 which are mutually parallel and, in the example, arranged horizontally.
- the balancer is capable of providing a sinusoidal torque and the two output axes 20 and 22 are linked so as to have synchronized speeds of rotation, but in opposite directions.
- the output axis 20 coincides with the axis of rotation of the proximal arm 12.
- the distal arm 14 is carried by the proximal arm 12 and is wedged around an axis of rotation 24 which extends parallel to the axis outlet 20.
- the distal arm 14 has a free end 26 capable of providing a force F, and an opposite end 28 forming an axis of articulation.
- the proximal arm 12 is fixed on the outlet axis 20 of the balancer 18 and is therefore integral in rotation with the latter.
- a crank 30 is fixed on the outlet axis 22 of the balancer and is also integral with it in rotation. It As a result, the proximal arm 12 and the crank 30 rotate in synchronism, but with opposite directions.
- a crank 32 is fixed on the output axis 20 by bearings (not shown), which allows it to turn on this axis without constraint.
- a link 34 is fixed to the ends of the cranks 30 and 32 by bearings (not shown) allowing rotations and thus creating a parallelogram transmitting the forces from the crank 30 to the crank 32.
- the distal arm 14 is fixed to the end of the proximal arm 12 by bearings (not shown) allowing it to pivot freely and without constraint around the axis 24.
- the arm 14 has a length L, between its end 26 and the axis 24, which is equal to the length of the arm 12, as defined between the axes 20 and 24.
- a connecting rod 36 parallel to the proximal arm 12, is fixed on one side on a crank 38 and on the other at the end 28 of the distal arm 14 by means of bearings (not shown) thus creating a second transmitting parallelogram the forces from the crank 38 to the distal arm 14.
- the cranks 32 and 38 are fixed on the outlet axis 20, being mounted to rotate freely around it, but integral with each other at an adequate angle A to avoid the braces.
- the output axes 20 and 22 are synchronized in opposite directions and indexed so that, when the arm 12 is horizontal, the crank 38 is also (in one direction or the other depending on whether the connecting rod 36 is below or above the arm 12).
- the rotation of the output axes 20 and 22 through 180 ° causes the displacement of the free end 26 along a straight line over a distance, or amplitude, equal to 4 x L.
- This straight line corresponds to a trajectory rectilinear roof T which, in the example, extends in a vertical direction.
- the force F transmitted to the end 26 is constant and always parallel to the direction indicated by the arrow.
- This force is equal to the sum of the maximum torques (arms 12 horizontally) given by the balancer 18 on the output axes 20 and 22, being reduced by the torque brought back by the weights of the different mobile elements (arms, connecting rods , cranks, rods, bearings, bearings, etc., plus different on-board systems or tools) divided by the value 2 x L (except when arms 12 and 14 are vertical, up or down, where a phenomenon of bruising occurs.
- This force can be used to balance a mass which will therefore be "weightless” over the entire trajectory T (here a vertical trajectory), or even to apply a force, for example the force which must be exerted by a current capture pantograph bow. on a catenary.
- the device of Figure 2 uses the basic elements of the device of Figure 1 and the common elements are designated by the same references. It further comprises an additional motorization 40 applied, in the example, to the link 34 and which can be used for different purposes.
- This additional motorization can be used in particular to move the articulated mechanism 10 from one to the other of two positions comprising a service position and a storage position. This motorization will be neutralized when the device is in the service or working position.
- this additional motorization can also be used to balance additional masses which are not always present or whose weights are substantially different, or to compensate for a lack of additional mass.
- the main mass could be a gripper and the additional masses could be different parts, the motorization 40 being limited to the weight of the part present.
- This additional motorization could also serve to make travel at the end 26 of the desired displacements, the motorization being limited to friction and inertia, excluding the imbalance.
- the device can be associated with a device for controlling a mechanical manipulator with controlled control as taught by French patent application No. 0003047 of the applicants.
- the additional motorization 40 can be of any kind (pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, etc.), linear or circular.
- its point of application is not limited to the rod 34, it can be any part linked to the movement, including the output axes 20 and 22 and even the free end 26 of the distal arm.
- the device of FIG. 2 comprises means suitable for ensuring constant orientation to a link 42 which carries the load (force F).
- This link 42 thus extends in the direction of the aforementioned path T.
- This device comprises a crank 44 fixed to the end of the proximal arm 12 by bearings, and therefore free to rotate relative to the latter.
- This crank 44 carries, at its lower end, an elongated part 46 comprising an oblong hole in which slides a finger 48 fixed on the connecting rod 36 vertical to the articulation axis 24.
- the finger 48 slides in the oblong hole , due to the deformation tion of the parallelogram formed by the arms 12 and 14, the link 38 and the link 36, during operation, the crank 44 remains vertical.
- a connecting rod 50 is fixed by bearings, therefore free to rotate, at one end to the crank 44 and, at its end, to the connecting rod 42 so as to remain parallel to the arm 14 and thus form a deformable parallelogram.
- FIG. 3 and 4 show a balancing device according to the invention which is similar to that of Figure 2 and which is applied to a pantograph of a railway car.
- the elements common with those of FIG. 2 are designated by the same reference numerals.
- the device carries two railway bows 76 and 78 suitable for coming into contact with a catenary (not shown). This embodiment aims to improve the behavior of horizontal forces, in particular those induced by resistance to penetration into the air.
- pantograph allows excellent behavior with respect to the lateral forces which arise perpendicularly to the direction of advance of the railcar, which therefore poses no particular problem.
- a balancer of the type described in the aforementioned French patent 88,02423 offers high values of direct and indirect efficiency, that is to say of the order of 98%.
- the high bandwidth of this mechanism gives the pantograph a very good transfer of torque from one to the other of the output axes. Indeed, as these output axes rotate in opposite directions, the balancer will reverse, from one output axis to the other, the direction of the transferred torque. This characteristic thus makes it possible to confer a certain stability on the whole of the structure.
- the device according to the embodiment of FIGS. 3 and 4 differs from that of FIG. 2 as regards the means suitable for ensuring constant orientation of the link 42.
- the elongated part 46 comprising an oblong hole (FIG. 2) is replaced by a tie rod 80 which comes to seek its direction on the frame of the balancer.
- a first solution would be to deposit on the second outlet axis 22 of the balancer a structure equivalent to that of the articulated mechanism carried by the first outlet axis 20, and which therefore would generate the same torque, these two couples canceling out in the balancer.
- Such a solution has several drawbacks, in particular a weighting of the structure, an increase in its inertia, and a space requirement doubled when the pantograph is folded. Moreover, such a solution is very expensive.
- the invention proposes another solution which consists in modeling this second structure and replacing it with an accessory, in particular a fin, equivalent in aerodynamics to this second structure.
- This accessory 82 is arranged on a radius of gyration R such that its penetration into the air generates an equal and opposite torque to the torque of penetration into the air of the mechanism. articulated 10 (pantograph), these two couples canceling out in the connection mechanics that the balancer 18 includes.
- the accessory 82 comprises a profile 84 forming a fin proper and fixed to the end of two levers 86 which are integral in rotation with the cranks 30.
- the accessory 82 integral in rotation with the second outlet axis of the balancer offers identical friction conditions since its angle of air intake is the same as that of the distal arm of which it is also integral in rotation and that the variations of its lever arm are perfectly symmetrical to those of the proximal arm. It therefore generates a torque of nature and value equivalent to the residual torque due to the penetration of the pantograph structure in the air. These two couples therefore cancel each other out through the mechanics of the balancer.
- this modeling will be adjustable in particular as regards the structure and geometry of the fin and its radius of gyration, and this as a function of the aerodynamic characteristics of the powerplant and of the pantograph.
- this system is complementary to all the points mentioned above with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, in particular the installation of a force control (see the motorization 90 described below), which it facilitates the adjustment by limiting its function to the sole control of the inertia of the pantograph.
- the addition of this accessory has no appreciable effect on the overall inertia of the pantograph. Its weight is fully taken into account by the balancer.
- this accessory makes it possible to correct the distortion due to the fact that, contrary to the assumptions made for the calculations, and although the distal arm and the proximal arm have the same length, the force of penetration into the air of the distal arm n is not identical to that of the proximal arm, this in particular due to the presence of a fairing on the drive and of the connecting rod 36.
- the accessory can be mounted on the crank 32, itself integral in rotation with the second output axis of the balancer, this arrangement making it possible to reduce the size of the folded accessory.
- the accessory is mounted idly on the first output axis 20.
- any means of compensating for the force of penetration into the air of the structure of the pantograph, mounted integral in rotation with the second outlet axis of the balancer, can be arranged either on the first outlet axis, or the second output axis of the balancer, or even on both.
- the structure of the accessory is not limited to a fin as shown in Figures 3 and 4, but may resemble a structure closer to that of the distal arm, of which it models the penetration into the air.
- FIG. 5 shows motorization means 90 used for the control of the articulated mechanism 10, which is advantageously constituted by a rail pantograph, as shown in FIG. 6.
- These drive motorization means are advantageously combined with a mechanical balancer 18 with two output axes 20 and 22 as described above.
- These means motorization 90 comprise an assembly articulated around an axis 92 and comprising an electric motor 94 coupled to a tachometer dynamo 96.
- This motor 94 drives, by means of a reduction gear 98 and a clutch 100, a screw without end 102 which cooperates with a nut 104.
- This nut 104 is articulated at 106 at the end of a crank 108 which is coupled to one of the output axes 20 and 22 of the balancer 18.
- this coupling will ensure the insulation between the electrical potential of the balancer (that of the catenary) and that of the worm (mass of the powerplant).
- a servo circuit 110 which will be described later with reference to FIG. 7, controls the electric motor 94 from a control signal SC delivered by a force sensor 112 carried at the free end of the distal arm 14 of the articulated mechanism 10.
- these motorization means advantageously find application in the case of a rail pantograph as shown in FIG. 6.
- the pantograph of FIG. 6 corresponds to that of FIGS. 3 and 4.
- the rail pantograph comprises a fin 82 similar to that described above.
- the crank 108 is advantageously integral in rotation with the fin, that is to say more particularly with the levers 86, which are integral in rotation with the outlet axis 22 of the balancer 18.
- This control aims in particular to respond to the problem of the dissociation of the systems which generate pressure forces on the catenary 74 and the control of the inertia of the structure of the pantograph. This is intended to compensate for the effects of variations in parallelism between the catenary and the railway, whether they are due to the geometry of the line itself or to the oscillations caused on the catenary by the passage of a first pantograph and that must follow any follower pantographs.
- These servo motorization means are, in the example, mounted on the mechanical balancer 18. Such a mechanical balancer intrinsically generates a sinusoidal torque balancing 98% of the mass of the structure.
- the induced kinematics also makes it possible, intrinsically, to ensure the generation of the force on the catenary with the same precision, and this regardless of the deployment position of the structure of the pantograph.
- the low inertia and friction values of the balancer, as well as its high bandwidth make it particularly suitable for a motorization of this type.
- the structure of the pantograph constructed around the balancer 18 makes it possible to compensate, under very good conditions, for the disturbances of the horizontal forces of all kinds to which it is subjected. As a result, the relationship between the actuator and the force on the bows that it generates remains practically independent of the speed of the train, the direction of travel of the pantograph and its deployment height.
- the motorization 90 essentially takes care of the inertial forces necessary for the vertical displacement of the structure.
- These motorization means have particularly interesting dynamic performance. They are able to compensate, if necessary, the residual forces caused in particular by the penetration into the air of the structure of the pantograph, preferably in coordination with the fin 82 described above. This is the reason why these motorization means 90 are advantageously combined with the pantograph with aileron, as can be seen in FIG. 6.
- these motorization means make it possible to compensate in a similar manner, and if necessary, all or part balancing or generating all or part of the bows' efforts on the catenary.
- the kinematic chain of the servo is constant velocity.
- crank 108 This kinematics is obtained by recreating a connecting rod / - crank system (crank 108) which transforms a constant force into sinusoidal torque, which torque is transformed back into constant force by the structure of the pantograph at the level of bows 76 and 78.
- the sinusoid of the crank 108 is synchronized, that is to say in phase, with that of the pantograph.
- the reduction gear 98 (FIG. 5) is advantageously constituted by a reduction gear with gears having an inverse ratio to that of the amplification between the structure of the pantograph and the crank (crank 108) of motorization.
- the endless screw 102 is advantageously a reversible type screw with high reverse efficiency.
- a ball screw with rolled threads preferably a screw having a diameter of 30 mm and a pitch of 30 mm.
- the screw is reversible, and this is why a reduction gear is also provided.
- a screw with a smaller pitch, without reducer but the reverse efficiency of which would be lower.
- the clutch 100 makes it possible to disengage the motorization means 90, for example in the event of the latter failing, to allow degraded operation of the pantograph. This means that, in such an operating mode, the performance of the pantograph would be analogous to that of a non-controlled pantograph.
- FIG. 7 We now refer to FIG. 7 to describe an example of control means 110.
- the motor 94 and the tachometer dynamo 96 The tachometer dynamo driven by the motor delivers a speed signal SV.
- the circuit 110 further comprises a first operational amplifier 114 (speed loop) receiving this speed signal SV and producing a first output signal SI which is sent to a second operational amplifier 116 (current loop).
- This second operational amplifier delivers a second output signal S2 which is received by a power amplifier 118, which delivers an output current CS sent to the electric motor 94 and whose image is sent to the second operational amplifier 116.
- the sensor effort 112 (carried by the pantograph bows) delivers a control signal SC which is applied to the input of the second operational amplifier 116.
- control of the bow-catenary effort is applied at the level of the servo current loop (operational amplifier 116). This allows a very short response time of the assembly and a management of perfectly homogeneous quantities since the torque delivered by the motor 94 is proportional to the control signal of this loop.
- deployment and folding operation 120 suitable for receiving an SRD control signal applied to the first operational amplifier (speed loop) to perform the folding or deployment of the articulated mechanism 10, that is to say say in the example of the pantograph.
- an emergency signal SU is sent by a safety device 122 operating in the event of the catenary breaking.
- This safety device sends the emergency signal to fold the structure of the pantograph in either of the following cases (given as an example): - prolonged disappearance of the bow-catenary effort during the operating phase,
- corrective means 124 are provided which are capable of delivering a correction between the control signal SC delivered by the force sensor 112 and the real force exerted on the load F, here on the catenary.
- These corrective means include derivative means capable of deriving with respect to time the variations in speed taken from the tachometric dynamo 96 and applying them to the input of the second operational amplifier 116. This signal, linear at acceleration, will generate a current, therefore a torque, capable of compensating for the inertial forces defined above which are themselves proportional to said acceleration.
- the servo system used in servitude for the folding or deployment of the structure is, as already indicated, doubled by another system ensuring the folding of the pantograph in case of defection of the first system, for example by the additional motorization 40 shown in Figure 2.
- motorized means with servo-control as described above, can be applied in combination with other balancing means.
- they are not limited to the application to an articulated mechanism of the rail pantograph type.
- the servo motorization system has been arranged vertically on the axis carrying the fin. In practice, and for reasons of space, this motorization system will be mounted indifferently on one of the two output axes of the balancer and will be arranged horizontally next to it.
- the balancing means of the device of the invention advantageously use a balancer of the type described by the aforementioned French patent 88 02 423.
