Abstract

The invention concerns a method for chemically stripping used electric cables with PVC insulating sheath, so as to recuperate the metal and the PVC transformed into film. First, the used electric cables (2) are introduced into an autoclave-cylinder (3) wherein is also fed a specific solvent as well as a shielding gas. After being mixed in said cylinder the PVC is dissolved in the solvent, leaving the electric cable completely stripped but not in any way split as a result of being crushed. The PVC solution is refined and purified through a centrifugal decanter (30), a filter press (34) and a compounder (37). The resulting refined solution is then conveyed to a calendering spreader (55) whereon it is transformed into a solid film. The solvent is extracted from said film by absorption in a gas and then restored by desorption and continuously recycled in the process.
