Definitions
- the present invention relates to a helmet.
- crash helmets while riding two or three wheeled vehicles, such as a motorcycle, is mandatory by law in most countries and is at any rate advisable in order to prevent injury to the head in case of accident.
- the aim of the present invention is to overcome the above described problems by providing a helmet, particularly a crash helmet, which can be easily stored in a limited space.
- An object of the invention is to provide a helmet which is structurally reliable and safe in use.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective exploded view of the helmet according to the invention
- Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the helmet according to the invention.
- Fig. 3 is a rear view of the helmet according to the invention.
- Fig. 4 is a side view of the helmet according to the invention.
- Fig. 5 is bottom perspective view of the helmet according to the invention.
- FIG. 6 perspective view of the helmet according to the invention shown in a non operative, folded, condition
- Fig. 7 is a front view of the helmet according to the invention, shown in a non operative condition similar to that of Fig. 6;
- Fig. 8 is a side view of the helmet according to the invention, shown in a non operative condition
- Fig. 9 is a bottom plan view of the helmet according to the invention, shown in a non operative condition.
- the helmet according to the invention globally designated by the reference numeral 1 , comprises a first member 2 and a second member 3 mutually associable in order to form a complete helmet structure.
- first member 2 is substantially in the form of a semispherical bowl and comprises engagement means 4 adapted to engage the second member 3.
- the engagement means 4 comprises a protruding profile having, for example, a semicircular, rounded or polygonal, section adapted to engage a corresponding seat 5 formed in the inner surface of second member 3.
- First member 2 is coupled to second member 3 with the protruding profile 4 engaging the seat 5. It should be noted that first bowl member 2 and second member 3 are both preferably ellipsoidal.
- Second member 3 has a discontinuity 6 which allows member 3 to be opened by widening.
- Discontinuity 6 defines a first portion 3a and a second portion 3b adapted to be spaced apart when second member 3 is opened and to be mutually joined when second member 3 is closed into the operative condition of the helmet encompassing first member 2.
- Second member 3 has a closure means constituted, in the illustrated example, by a lever 7 pivoted to first portion 3a of second member 3, by means of a first pivot 8, and adapted to exert a closing force while closing the second member 3, between the first and second portions 3a and 3b of second member 3.
- the lever 7 is pivoted to a rod 9 at a point opposite to pivot 8.
- Rod 9 has a first end pivoted to the second portion 3b of second member 3 by means of a second pivot 10, and has a second end pivoted to the lever 7 by means of a third pivot 11.
- lever 7 is conveniently arranged in a seat 12 formed on the external surface of portions 3a and 3b constituting second member 3.
- Lever 7 is arranged in a substantially lateral position, with respect to the portions of the helmet adapted to cover the forehead and the back of the head.
- the operation of the crash helmet according to the invention is as follows. To assemble the helmet into the operative condition, the user has to insert annular projection 4 of the first bowl member 2 in the corresponding seat 5 formed on the inner surface of second member 3.
- Lever 7 is very easily operated by simply pushing at its end associated with rod 9 and thereby closing together portions 3a and 3b while lever 7 fits snugly into seat 12, flush with the external surface of the first and second members 2 and 3.
- the helmet according to the invention is easily opened and disassembled by simply inserting a finger into a space provided between the end of the lever 7 and the edge of seat 12 and by lifting the lever 7, which opens the first and second portions 3a and 3b of the second member 3, thereby freeing the first member 2.
- the first member 2 can be overturned and inserted into second member 3, thereby virtually halving the space occupied by the dismantled helmet with respect to the space occupied by the helmet in the operating condition.
- the closure of the helmet is made stable by the fact that the line 13 connecting third pivot 11 to first pivot 8 moves beyond second pivot 10 thereby generating a component of the elastic return forces of the second member, which tends to remain open when at rest, such as to keep lever 7 tight against the body of second member 3, inside seat 12.
- the rotation of the lever in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2 makes the second member 3 to open.
- the two members 2 and 3 may be reassembled by turning first bowl member 2 upside down and inserting it again in second member 3 in this upside down position.
- the assembly of first and second members 2 and 3 again assumes a monolithic configuration, but its vertical dimensions are reduced to approximately half the height of the helmet in the operative condition.
- the invention is also useful for different types of helmets, for examples helmets used in sports such as climbing, wherein the helmet can be easily stored in a back pack when its use is not required.
- the helmet in the compact non operative condition can be easily stored in bags such as an overnight case, a knapsack or any other small case, for example of the type provided on mopeds.
- the helmet according to the invention may have numerous modifications and variations, all within the inventive concept; furthermore, all the details may be substituted with technically equivalent elements.
- the materials employed, as well as the dimensions, may be any according to the specific needs and the state of the art.
