Summary of the present invention
Technical problems
When taking into consideration the technical deliberations that a person skilled in this particular art must make in order to provide a solution to one or more technical problems that he/she encounters, it will be seen that on the one hand it is necessary initially to realise the measures and/or the sequence of measures that must be undertaken to this end, and on the other hand to realise which means is/are required to solve one or more of said problems On this basis, it will be evident that the technical problems listed below are highly relevant to the de- velopment of the present invention
When considering the present state of the art as described above, it will be evident that a technical problem resides in creating a basic design of an arrangement of the aforesaid kind with the aid of simple constructive measures, which will not only allow a rail section to be firmly secured to a railroad sleeper through the medium of securing devices, but which will also enable the rail section to be released from the sleeper by releasing the devices, wherein the securing devices and the releasing devices may have the form of clips, with one device placed on one side of the rail section and one device placed on the other side thereof, where both devices are associated with and allocated to one and the same sleeper
It will also be seen that a technical problem is one of providing such a construction that may be given a low construction height and which will be lighter in weight than known constructions of this kind and therewith easier to manoeuvre and handle, either manually or with the aid of a link arrangement, such as an arrangement which is balanced with the aid of springs, for instance air springs
It will also be seen that a technical problem resides in providing an arrangement of the aforesaid kind with which simple measures have been taken so as to forcibly create conditions for at least achieving generally co-ordinated movement of the two legs by the inclusion of a parallel-movement strut arrangement, so that the actuatable devices can be subjected to mutually the same force and given mutually the same positions by equal displacement of the elements actuating said devices
Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages afforded by pivotally connecting said legs together through the me- dium of a parallel-movement strut arrangement that has only one parallel- movement strut, such that a first pivotal attachment of said parallel-movement strut to one leg is positioned closer to one device-displacing element than the pivotal attachment of said one leg to said intermediate part, and such that a second pivotal attachment of said parallel-movement strut to said other leg is positioned further away from a device-displacing element than the pivotal attachment of the intermediate part to said other leg
Another technical problem is one of enabling the arrangement to be locked in relation to the rail section through the medium of said intermediate part with the aid of simple measures, so as to prevent relative movement between the intermediate part and the rail section in a direction transversely to a longitudinal plane or line assigned to the rail section
Still another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing the intermediate part to comprise a portion which has provided centrally thereof a U-shaped recess which has a locking function and which is adapted to surround the upper wear surface of the rail sec-
tion with a given clearance, and to enable locking to be achieved against a rail head with a small clearance.
Another technical problem resides in realising the significance of providing the intermediate part with mutually distal pivot shafts (mutually spaced or outer- edge related pivot shafts), for pivotally and tiltably holding respective legs between said parts
Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing said parallel movement strut to have a slightly angled shape and to be placed in between said parts.
Another technical problem is one of realising the„sιgnιficance of allowing the intermediate part to comprise two mutually spaced portions that have U- shaped recesses where each of the recesses is adapted to surround a rail head belonging to the rail section with a small clearance, and then particularly to a position in the close proximity of the sides or side edges of the rail head. It will be seen that a particular technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing the intermediate part to be provided with support pads that can act to support the arrangement against a device prior to activating parallel movement of said elements.
With regard to the special application of the arrangement when said ar- rangement is adapted to move two elements towards each other and cause each element to urge a respective device in a direction such as to secure the rail section to a sleeper, it will be seen that a technical problem resides in the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing the elements on the free ends of said legs to have the form of a simple, removable plate. Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing the plate to include a bottom groove or channel for co-action with an outer actuating surface adapted for displacing the device.
Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with providing the groove with a bottom sloping edge that
functions to exert an upwardly directed force component on the device when necessary
Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of providing conditions which will enable an outer bevelled surface to be provided on the bottom sloping edge of the groove and/or in the close proximity of said edge
When the arrangement is adapted for movement of two elements away from each other and to cause each element to press its respective device in a direction for releasing the rail section from a railroad sleeper, it will be seen that a technical problem resides in realising the significance of and the advantages as- sociated with allowing the elements carried by the free ends of the legs to have the form of a plate which can be positioned between the rail section and the device and to provide a connecting part that extends between the plate and the free end of the leg and to give the plate a form which enables it to be removably attached in a simple manner and also to provide limited movement of said plate In the case of this particular application it will be seen that a technical problem reside in realising the advantages of pivotally and/or tiltably attaching the connecting part to the free end of an associated leg
Another technical problem is one of providing means which will enable the connecting part to pass a recess in the leg and to be removably attached to the leg in a simple manner
Another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with allowing the connecting part to be angled for co- action with the opposite side of the leg
Still another technical problem is one of realising the significance of and the advantages associated with at least allowing one of said elements through which a rail section is secured to a railroad sleeper to function as means for limiting the movement of a device which is operative in releasing the rail section from the sleeper and which is caused to move from a position in which it co-acts with the rail section to a position in which it releases said section
It will also be seen that a technical problem is one of providing different constructive embodiments within a small construction volume and with the aid of simple means so as to enable a parallel-movement strut arrangement, primarily one single parallel-movement strut, to be used, although where room has been provided for the use of two struts with a force alternating transmission link
Solution
The present invention is based on an arrangement for moving two securing or releasing devices active between a railroad sleeper and a rail section to a securing or releasing mode with the aid of a piston-cylinder device whose move- i θ ments can be transmitted via pivot attachments to two legs which are pivotally related to each other via pivotal attachments to an intermediate part, where the free ends of the legs carry actuating elements that can be moved in directions towards each other so as to bring said two devices simultaneously from a free position to a position in which the rail section is firmly clamped to the sleeper, or vice versa
15 With the intention of solving one or more of the aforementioned technical problems, it is now proposed in accordance with the invention that the legs are pivotally joined to one another through the medium of a parallel-movement strut arrangement
When only one single parallel-movement strut is used, it is proposed that a first pivotal attachment of the strut to one leg is placed closer to said element than the pivotal attachment of the intermediate part to said one leg, and that a second pivotal attachment of said strut to the other leg is placed further away from said element than the pivotal attachment of said intermediate part to said other leg
25 In accordance with embodiments that lie within the scope of the present invention, it is proposed that the intermediate part is comprised of two mutually spaced portions and that each portion includes a centrally located U-shaped recess that has mutually spaced, or distal, pivot shafts for pivotally and tiltably holding respective legs between said portions
30 It is also proposed that the parallel-movement strut is slightly angled and placed between said portions
It is also proposed that the U-shaped recess or recesses is/are adapted to surround the upper wear surface of a rail head belonging to the rail section with a given clearance, and to connect with and embrace the side surfaces of the rail head with a small clearance
5 It is also proposed that the support pads belonging to the intermediate part are each adapted for abutment with said device so as to support the arrangement prior to movement of said elements in response to activation by the piston- cylinder device
In respect of an arrangement that is particularly adapted to allow two ele- i J ments to be moved towards each other in a direction in which the rail section is released from a sleeper with the aid of two devices, it is proposed that the elements on the free ends of the legs have the form of a detachable plate
It is also proposed that the plate is provided with a bottom groove adapted for co-action with an actuating surface for moving the device
1 It is also proposed that the groove has a bottom sloping edge which functions to exert an upwardly acting force component on the device when necessary
It is also proposed that the downwardly sloping edge has an outer bevel adjacent the groove
When the arrangement is adapted particularly to allow two elements to 20 move away from each other to release the rail section from a sleeper with the aid of two devices, it is proposed in accordance with the invention that each of the elements carried by the free ends of the legs has the form of a plate which can be positioned between the rail section and the device with a connecting part extending between the plate and the free end of the leg
25 In this regard, it is proposed that the connecting part is pivotally attached to the free end of the leg
It is also proposed that the connecting part is arranged to pass a recess in the leg, and that said connecting part is attached to the leg in a manner which enables it to be easily removed therefrom
It is particularly proposed that the connecting part is angled for co-action
It is also proposed in accordance with the invention that one of said two elements, where said element is adapted to allow a rail section to be secured to a railroad sleeper, to function as stop means for limiting movement of a device that is the object of release movement
When the parallel-movement strut arrangement is based on the use of two or more struts, it is proposed that a force alternating transmission link is mounted between the struts
Advantages
Those advantages primarily significant of an inventive arrangement reside in enabling a rail section to be secured to or released from a railroad sleeper, wherein movement of two elements associated with respective legs is forcibly controlled for movement of the elements towards or away from each other with the aid of a parallel-movement strut arrangement
The arrangement also provides a construction that requires a very small construction height
The arrangement may also be provided with two elements at one and the same time one which that will cause a device to secure a rail section to a sleeper and one element which will function to release said rail section from said sleeper, wherein in the case of a securing sequence the element used to secure the rail section to the sleeper can function as a movement limiting means
The primary characteristic features of an inventive arrangement are set forth in the characterising clause of the accompanying claim 1

Description of embodiments at present preferred
The present invention is thus based on an arrangement 1 which is constructed to allow two securing and releasing devices 4, 4a active between a railroad sleeper 2 and the lower part or flange 3b of a railroad section 3 to be moved between a securing (clamping) and a releasing (unclamping) position
The devices 4, 4a are known to the art and a number of these known constructions can be used in the present invention For instance, the devices used may be those designated FASTCLIP, type FC 1501
The arrangement 1 utilises an hydraulic piston-cylinder device 5 that includes two connections 5a and 5b by means of which the piston-cylinder device is coupled to an hydraulic pressure source, although this has not been shown for the sake of clarity
The piston of the piston-cylinder device 5 can be caused to move recipro- catingly through the medium of the hydraulic pressure source and necessary control valves The piston of the illustrated piston-cylinder device 5 in Figure 1 is shown fully withdrawn
In this fully withdrawn position of the piston, elements 9, 9a that actuate devices 4, 4a are in an outer position
It will be understood that full extension of the piston of the piston-cylinder device 5 will bring the elements 9, 9a together (this position not being shown)
The piston-cylinder device 5 is connected to the upper ends of two legs 6, 6a by means of pivotal attachments 5c, 5d, so that reciprocal movement of the arrangement 5 will result in pivoting or rocking of the legs 6, 6a
The legs 6, 6a are pivotally attached at 6', 6a' to an intermediate part 7, such that said legs 6, 6a will pivot or tilt relative to each other The elements 9, 9a are carried on the bottom free ends 8, 8a of the legs
6, 6a so that when the ends 8, 8a are moved towards each other, the two devices 4 4a will be moved simultaneously to a position in which they clamp the railroad section firmly against the sleeper, or vice versa
As shown in Figure 1 , the arrangement 1 is firmly held by a link arrangement 10 which is resiliency dampened with the aid of air springs 1 1 , 12 mounted in a frame structure 13
This arrangement enables the arrangement 1 to be brought to a position in which it extends over a railroad section 3 in the close proximity thereof, or to be moved to a position outside said section, the arrangement being referenced 1 ' in this alternative position
As will be seen from Figures 2 and 3, the legs 6, 6a are pivotally connected to one another via a parallel-movement strut arrangement that comprises a single parallel-movement strut 20 so that movement of the elements 9, 9a and the devices 4 4a will be controlled positively and said elements and devices moved to mutually the same extents
Any deviation that may occur in this equivalent movement has a subordinate significance in this context In order to centre said equivalent movement about a centre line or a centre plane -C-, it is necessary to lock the intermediate part 7 to the railroad section 3 or to some other fixed point so as to be immovable
A first pivotal attachment 20a of the parallel-movement strut 20 to one leg 6 is placed closer to the element 9 that the position of the pivotal attachment 6' of the intermediate part 7 in relation to said one leg 6
The parallel-movement strut 20 is pivotally attached to the second leg 6a at a seconα pivotal attachment 20b which is positioned further away from said element 9a than the pivotal attachment 6a' of the intermediate part 7 to said second leg 6a The intermediate part 7 is comprised of two mutually spaced portions 7a,
7b, wherein each of said portions includes centrally a U-shaped recess and is pivotally connected to respective ends of the legs 6, 6a by pivot shafts 6', 6a'
The aforesaid parallel-movement strut 20 is slightly angled and is positioned between the portions 7a, 7b of the intermediate part 7
The aforesaid U-shaped recesses 21 a, 21 b in respective portions 7a, 7b are adapted to enclose the upper wear surface 3a of a rail head belonging to said railroad section with a given clearance, where an adapted small clearance shall be obtained primarily between the side parts of the rail head, as shown in more detail in Figure 1
The intermediate part 7 includes support pads 22, 22a which are adapted for abutment with the devices 4, 4a and therewith function to support the arrangement 1 prior to activating said elements 9, 9a through the medium of the piston-cylinder device 5
The arrangement illustrated in Figures 1 , 2 and 3 is adapted to allow the two elements 9 9a to be moved towards each other and therewith secure the railroad section 3 to a railroad sleeper 2 with the aid of said two devices 4, 4a
To this end the elements 9, 9a carried on respective free ends 8 8a of the legs 6 6a have been given the form of a detachable plate Respective plates, here referenced 9' and 9a', are inserted as a separate unit in a respective recess 8', 8a and bolted to respective free ends 8, 8a
Each plate includes a bottom groove or channel 91 , 91 a for co-action with an actuator surface 4a' for displacement of the device 4a
As will be seen from the enlarged view in Figure 1 b, the channel or groove 91 a has a bottom sloping edge 9b which is adapted to enable the device 4a to be actuated with an upwardly acting force component when necessary, as the device 4a moves to the left in Figure 1 This slope will conveniently have an angle of between 20 and 60 degrees, preferably slightly less than 45 degrees
The groove 91 a has adjacent its bottom sloping edge 9b an external bevel 9c which is adapted to be able to pass any obstacles that impede movement of the device 4a to the left in Figure 1 It will be noted that the devices 4, 4a are shown in a free position in Figures 1 , 2 and 3 and that when in a securing position they will protrude slightly over the bottom flange 3b of the railroad section 3
In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 4 to 6, the arrangement is adapted to enable two elements 19, 19a to be moved in a direction in which a rail-
road section is released from a railroad sleeper with the aid of said two devices 4, 4a
Each of the elements 19a associated carried on the free ends 8, 8a of the legs has the form of a plate 19b that can be position between the railroad section 3 and the device 4a and includes a connecting part 19c which extends between the plate 19b and the free end 8a of the leg 6a
The element 19a is pivotally connected to said free end 8a by means of a pivot pin 19e
The connecting part 19c is thus pivotally connected to the free end 8a of the leg via an extension 19d and said pivot pin 19e, therewith enabling the plate 19b to be raised and lowered within given limits, said limits being implemented with the aid of stop means not shown
As will be seen from Figure 6, the connecting part 19c is intended to pass through a recess 25 in the leg 6a and is also removably attached to the bottom part 8a of the leg 6a
A portion 19g of the connecting part 19c is angled for co-action with the leg 6a This co-action can be achieved with the aid of a screw 19h whose thread 19ι co-acts with a corresponding thread 19j and which includes a collar 19k which is narrower and smaller than a recess 19m such as to enable the part 19a to move slightly in relation to the leg 6a
It will be particularly noted that in respect of the embodiment shown in Figure 6 at least one of said two elements 9a, which are not shown in Figure 6, may well be fastened to the same place as in the embodiment shown in Figure 3, where the element 9a is intended to displace the device 4a towards the railroad section 3 so as to allow said railroad section to be secured to a railroad sleeper, and that said element 9a may be adapted to function as a means for limiting movement of a device that is intended to be released through the medium of said element 19a, said device being referenced 4a in the Figure
The provisions for such an arrangement that includes a stop means are described in more detail in International Patent Application No PCT/SE98/01993
Figure 7 is a perspective view of an arrangement according to Figure 1 , but without supports 22, 22a
Figure 8 illustrates an embodiment of a parallel-movement strut arrangement 20' which includes two struts 81 , 81 and an intermediate force alternating transmission link 82
The strut 81 is pivotally mounted to the leg 6 slightly above the point 6' at which the intermediate part 7 is pivotally mounted to the leg 6 by means of a pivot attachment 81a
The strut 81 a is pivotally attached to the leg 6a slightly above the pivotal attachment 6a' of the intermediate part 7 to said leg 6a, via a pivotal attachment 81 a'
The strut 81 is pivotally attached to the force transfer link 82 by means of a pivotal attachment 82a, whereas the strut 81 a is attached to said link 82 by means of a pivotal attachment 82b i : The link 82 is also pivotally attached to the intermediate part 7 by means of a pivotal attachment 82c
It will be noted that in respect of a force alternating transfer link 82 that provides parallel movement the pivotal attachments 82a and 82b shall be placed at the same distance and diametrically positioned relative to the pivotal attachment 82c and pivot to the same extent on each side of the plane C The pivotal attachments 81a, 82c and 81 a' shall also be placed in one and the same plane
Figure 9 is intended to illustrate the situation when the arrangement, provided with railroad section/sleeper releasing elements, is lowered down over a railroad section with the devices 4, 4a in a securing position and with the piston of the
25 piston cylinder arrangement 5 fully withdrawn
As will be seen, the end edges 19h and 19k of respective elements 19, 19a are slightly raised and rest on the upper surface of the devices 4, 4a in this position
Figure 10 shows the arrangement in a position in which it is lowered over
30 the rail section 3, similar to the Figure 9 illustration, but with the piston of the pis-
ton-cylinder device 5 fully extended and the end edges 19h, 19k therewith moved to a position between the rail section 3 and the inwardly facing parts 4b, 4b' of the devices 4, 4a
When the piston of the piston-cylinder device 5 is fully withdrawn, in accordance with Figure 4, the devices 4, 4a will have been caused to move to a position in which the rail section is fully released
It will be understood that the invention is not restricted to the aforede- scπbed exemplifying embodiment thereof and that modifications can be made within the concept of the invention as defined in the following claims
