La présente invention concerne un dispositif (10) pouvant être relié à un ordinateur (16) pour servir à la fois d'enregistreur/lecteur (12) de cartes bancaires (15), et de 'souris' ou outil de pointage (11). Ce dispositif (10) comprend une position d'enfichage (19), permettant d'insérer des 'cartes à puces' (15) ainsi que plusieurs boutons (24, 25) destinés à servir de souris. Ce dispositif est en outre relié audit ordinateur (16) par un unique raccordement (18). Dans un second mode de réalisation, ce dispositif (10) comprend également un clavier (122), permettant en particulier de saisir un numéro d'identification personnelle, et un dispositif d'affichage (129), fournissant les indications visuelles relatives aux touches manipulées. Ce dispositif (10) est à la fois peu onéreux et convivial, et convient particulièrement aux utilisateurs souhaitant effectuer des transactions bancaires depuis chez eux. Ce dispositif peut également être utilisé pour protéger l'ordinateur de tout accès non autorisé.
