  • the lock device of the aforementioned type comprises a lock fitting plate and a clamping plate that can be placed on two opposite faces of a door leaf in the area of an edge recess of the door leaf at the edge thereof, the lock fitting plate being arranged as a flat plate and including a receiving window to receive the portion of the lock cylinder comprising the lock bit, the lock bit being rotatable in the receiving window when the lock cylinder is received therein, a sliding member being fitted at the bottom of the receiving window, the sliding member comprising a locking bolt extendable and retractable through an opening extending from the receiving window toward a long side of the lock fitting plate, the sliding member with the locking bolt being displaceable in the receiving window to either a locked or open position by the lock bit engaging the sliding member, the lock fitting plate and receiving window being manufactured by extrusion, and the clamping plate comprising an aperture adapted to the outline of the lock cylinder.
  • the lock fitting plate including the receiving window is thus manufactured as an extruded profile plate, using a suitable mandrel to form the receiving window. Plates having the desired thickness are then cut from the extruded profile bar. Only the opening through which the locking bolt can be extended and retracted, and the bore for fixing the lock cylinder have to be provided after the cutting step.
  • the receiving window of the lock fitting plate preferably comprises an immobilising recess provided in the top portion of the receiving window to receive the free end of the lock cylinder bit and prevent the lock cylinder from rotating in the receiving window.
  • this immobilising recess is not absolutely necessary, since the lock cylinder is already held in its position by the aperture of the clamping plate, said aperture being adapted to the outline of the lock cylinder including the cylinder bit.
  • the lock fitting plate is provided with two cover plates that cover the receiving window on both sides while having apertures conforming to the outline of the lock cylinder including the lock cylinder bit .
  • Each of the cover plates comprises a guiding slot.
  • the sliding member is provided with two pins that protrude from both sides of the sliding member at right angles with respect to its displacement plane, and exceed the receiving window. The pins each engage the guiding slot of the adjacent cover plate, thus guiding the displacement of the sliding member.
  • the cover plates are preferably made of metal sheet, and the apertures may be formed by punching. Alternatively, cover plates having the required thickness may be cut from a corresponding extruded profile bar.
  • the clamping plate including the aperture may likewise be made of metal sheet.

  • the clamping plates can be cut from the extruded profile such as to provide the required thickness; above all, each clamping plate thus produced may already have the required aperture.
  • a clamping plate cut from an extruded profile bar will be used, because the thickness of such a clamping plate can be chosen without resorting to any additional distance plates so that the end of the lock cylinder and lock bit exceeding the edge recess of the door leaf can be received in the clamping plate. In this manner, the lock cylinder does not protrude from the clamping plate, which effectively prevents a burglar from breaking the lock cylinder, or at least renders such attempts more difficult.
  • the lock fitting plate and the clamping plate are each provided with through holes for mounting screws arranged to tighten these plates to each other and to the interposed door leaf comprising the edge recess.
  • These through holes may be drilled into the lock fitting plate and clamping plate in a separate processing step after extrusion. It is preferred, however, to provide these through holes already in the process of extrusion.
  • the through holes comprise mandrel communication slots toward the receiving window and the lock cylinder aperture or the plate edge, respectively. In this fashion, the through holes necessary in the lock fitting plate for fixing the cover plates may also be provided by extrusion.
  • the sliding member arranged in the lock fitting plate comprises a latch element that is biased by the resilient force of a spring and can be displaced perpendicularly to the direction of displacement of the sliding member.
  • the latch element is provided with an integral pin engaging the slot of the adjacent cover plate and guided in this slot.
  • the guiding slot is U-shaped, with the legs of the U- shape oriented toward the aperture for the lock cylinder.
  • the biased spring is arranged between the bottom of the sliding member and the latch element and urges the pin onto the rim of the slot.
  • the legs of the U-shaped slot define the open and locked position, respectively, of the lock device.
  • the components used within the lock fitting plate are of a simple design and can be manufactured in an inexpensive way. Since only the lock cylinder may have to be purchased from another manufacturer, the lock device according to the invention can be produced independently of any parts supply from a lock manufacturer. In the event of a failure of elements in the lock device, the lock device can be disassembled without having to remove the door, and the defective components can be simply replaced.

  • Figure 2 shows the lock fitting plate 1 according to claim 5, in which the through holes have communication slots 3 toward the receiving window 2 and toward the edge of lock fitting plate 1, respectively.
  • the thickness of the clamping plate 4 can be selected such that the lock cylinder 15 does not substantially protrude from the clamping plate, as shown in Figure 7, which makes it more difficult to force the lock cylinder 15 open.
