Definitions

  • the invention concerns the devices used in vacuum cleaners and similar appliances for changing dust collection bags.
  • Subject of the invention is a replaceable dust-collecting bag for vacuum cleaning appliances.
  • Said bag is closed at one end and has a rigid flange glued onto its base, covering substantially the whole of the bag's cross section, having in it a large central oblong hole whose position corresponds with that of a large hole in the bottom of the bag, said flange comprising an elastic lamina in which a hole is made of a diameter smaller than the external diameter of the end of the dust-discharging tube, substantially aligned with the other holes.
  • a substantially rectangular elastic tongue fixed close to the edge of the hole in the elastic lamina and of a width greater than the diameter of said hole, extends beyond the opposite side of said hole in close contact with said elastic lamina.
  • Thickness of the flange is substantially constant and, projecting centrally from its sides, are two small rounded teeth intended to be elastically pressed inside corresponding holes made in the bottom of opposingly situated U-shaped channels, cut in a pair of arms, fixed to the inner wall of a door in the appliance, that stand out substantially at right angles from said wall.
  • Distance between said channels corresponds to the width of the flange on the bag, a width the same as the flange's thickness and, when the door of the appliance is closed, their position substantially corresponds to a geometrical plane passing through the end of the dust-discharging tube, symmetrical to both sides of said end.
  • the tongue When the full bag is taken out of the appliance for changing, the tongue, no longer pressed by the discharge tube, spontaneously resumes its closed positiion preventing dust from coming out.
  • Frontward the flange is curved to fit the inner curved wall of the door carrying the bag, while rearward it has a projection for easy finger grip.
  • the flange is preferably formed by glued association of two pieces of stiff pressed cardboard, there being interposed between them the lamina of latex rubber and the tongue of elastic plastic material.
  • the flange at one end of the bag acts as a real automatic valve that opens when the empty bag is put in and closes when the full bag is removed, preventing any dust from leaking out into the environment.
  • said flange Being made from a series of thin superimposed layers, said flange is substantially flat and of minimum thickness so that it can be bent against the side of the empty bag to be of little or no bulk in transport and storage. Opening the bag from its practically flat storage position to its operative form with the flange substantially crosswise, is extremely simple.
  • the seal between bag and discharge tube is rendered automatic due to elasticity of the edge of the latex lamina, pressed on to surround and cover the end of said tube.

  • Two holes 64 are cut in the base and almost at the end of said channels 63, the size of said holes being that of the lateral teeth 34 on the flange.
  • Said end 73 of the tube on penetrating inside said hole 51 , causes the tongue 55 to curve 55' so that the tongue moves away to allow free passage of dust rising up through said tube.
