Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a magnetotherapy unit.
  • magnetotherapy which is based- on applying a variable magnetic field to the body, is performed using equipment comprising a variable magnetic field source including a coil supplied with a variable current.
  • a further advantage of magnetotherapy is the availability of portable units not requiring the assistance of qualified personnel or a surgical environment, and which may therefore be used at home as convenient and as required by the patient, with no traveling or waiting time involved.
  • a drawback of known magnetotherapy units is that an increase in the magnetic output power required is accompanied by an increase in current to the coil, in the size of the coil and the electric generating and control circuits, in the heat generated by the Joule effect, and in the complexity of the unit as, a whole. Consequently, over and above certain output levels, the component size, associated heating problems and complexity of the unit are such that the unit can no longer be made portable, and is considerably more expensive, thus limiting the application scope of the therapy.

Alternatively, the spiral conducting path may be provided on both faces of disk 18. Firstly, by virtue of the variable magnetic field being generated by moving the permanent magnets, and by virtue of the email size and weight of the disk-magnet assembly, the power supply required is reduced, and the electric power supplied to the motor at the input is therefore not correlated to the magnetic power at the output, which may therefore be increased as required by appropriately sizing the permanent magnets. Secondly, though straightforward in design and cheap to produce, the unit according to the invention is capable of supplying considerable magnetic power, up to 10,000 Gauss/cm, to meet various requirements. And lastly, it is highly compact, may be carried easily in a pocket or handbag, is easy to handle, and extremely versatile.

  • the number of permanent magnets used may vary as required, to vary total power and/or the frequency of the magnetic field generated.
  • the unit may be combined with other functions in addition to electromagnetotherapy as described with reference to Figures 3 and 4.
