Definitions
- the present invention relates to compositions making it possible to combat the proliferation of mites.
- Perennial domestic allergies are the expression of a disease of civilization. Perennial allergic diseases, mainly asthma, are constantly increasing in developed and developing countries.
- Pyroglyphidae mites are probably the main culprits of chronic allergies. Among them, we find three main species: Dermatophagoids pteronyssinus, D. Farinae and D. Euroglyphus.
- Household mites are present everywhere in our environment, but they multiply only if the conditions are favorable to their needs (humidity, heat and food). The proliferation of house dust mites is largely explained by changes in the interior environment of homes and lifestyle:
- the surface treatments must be renewed at a relatively frequent rate. Many chemicals can kill mites in culture. However, only a small number have sufficiently low toxicity to allow use inside the habitat. This is why the present invention relates to an acaricidal composition, characterized in that it contains a synergistic association of crotamiton and N-hydroxyethylacetamide. Crotamiton, or crotonyl-N-ethyl-0 toluidine is commonly used as a scabicide.
- Such an association has acaricidal activity both on the larvae and on hard-shelled insects. It also has excellent air stability, which guarantees optimal persistence on the treated surfaces. This is an important parameter for the overall activity of such products, given the multiplication cycle of mites.
- the crotamiton concentration is advantageously between approximately 0.5 and 5% w / v.
- the N-hydroxyethyl acetamide is present at a concentration of between approximately 0.5 and 5% w / v.
- composition according to the invention is preferably in liquid form, in particular to allow its spraying in microdroplets on the surfaces to be treated. It can also contain vegetable essential oils. These essential oils can for example be essences of thyme, lemon grass, geranium or myrtle.
- the invention relates to a composition containing a combination of crotamiton and N-hydroxyethylacetamide as defined above, and formulated as an emulsion with a hydroalcoholic continuous phase.
- the emulsion will preferably be obtained with a surfactant of a cationic nature.
- these surfactants known to a person skilled in the art, there may be mentioned bromide or cetrimonium chloride, benzalkonium chloride or laurylpyridinium chloride.
- the invention also relates to the use for the prevention and treatment of infestations by mites of a synergistic mixture of crotamiton and N-hydroxyethylacetamide. This use, which uses two compounds of very different configurations, makes it possible to combine complementary modes of action which lead to synergy in the treatment of mites.
- the technique used to evaluate the miticide activity of the preparations is a method recommended by INRA.
- the four surfaces are treated with the solution in spray form, spraying for approximately 20 seconds.
- a population of 100 to 300 mites (Dermatophagoids farinae was the strain selected for the test, considered to be the best representative of household mites) is deposited on each surface.
- the plots are then stored individually in an enclosure whose temperature and humidity conditions have been defined as being optimal for the development of the parasite (25 ° C and 75% RH). Before starting the experiment, it is necessary to carry out a few tests in order to properly control the quantity deposited, this approach being done by measuring the spraying rate.
- the assessment of the activity is determined by the mortality checks at the times:
- Reinfestations on several dates provide information on the persistence of the effect of the products on the treated supports. They can be made at OJ + 60 days or even OJ + 90 days, if necessary.
- the percentages obtained are an average of the different readings taken for the same dose and the same duration.
- the persistence of activity of the product on the supports was studied 30 days, 60 days and 90 days after they have received the treatment with the solution.
- the table below gives the average of the mortality percentages obtained for doses between 20 g / m 2 and 40 g / m 2 .
- 48 hours of contact with the treated support are generally sufficient to destroy all of the parasites.
- the following table gives the percentages of parasites destroyed by the supports respectively 30 days, 60 days and 90 days after their treatment with different solutions.
- crotamiton acts only at concentrations close to 10% and generally exhibits good remanence on the supports tested.
