Abstract

Le procédé de liquéfaction d'un gaz naturel selon l'invention consiste à liquéfier au moins en partie ce gaz en le détendant avec fourniture d'énergie mécanique, le gaz au cours de cette détente passant d'une phase dense à une phase liquide sans transition de phase. Le procédé comporte au moins les deux étapes suivantes: a) on refroidit le gaz naturel constitué de plusieurs constituants à une pression au moins supérieure ou égale à la valeur de pression critique du méthane et à une température telle que ledit gaz se présente en phase dense à la fin de ce refroidissement, b) on détend et on liquéfie au moins en partie une fraction de ladite phase dense provenant de l'étape a) à travers un dispositif (T3) adapté à diminuer la pression du gaz selon une détente avec fourniture d'énergie mécanique, le passage de l'état en phase dense vers un état en phase liquide se faisant sensiblement sans transition de phase.
