Definitions
- the invention relates to a girding device for making a knot of binding material round one or more products, comprising a supply needle for the binding material, a rotatable beak, an at least double clamping device, cutting means and drive means for driving these elements.
- Such a girding device is used for girding for example bunches of flowers, labels and other loose objects.
- binding material use is usually made of elastic cord but the use of string, ribbon etc. is also possible.
- Existing girding devices gird loose objects with binding material which is unwound from a roll or ball and clamped in the clamping device at the free end. The binding material is trained round the objects and then severed at two locations. Each time a girding operation takes place a small portion of the binding material is thus cut loose which has to be disposed of as waste. These loose portions of binding material can disturb the girding process if they fall into undesired positions in the girding device.
- Another drawback of the existing girding devices is the problem of controlling the tension on the binding material during the girding operation. Due to the incomplete control of this tension the process is limited in speed and susceptible to disturbance.
- the present ir. 'ention has for its object to provide an improved girding device with which girding can take place in reliable manner at higher speeds than with the existing device.
- Such an i ⁇ oroved device will fce less susceptible to disturbance and require less servicing.
- the invention provides to this end a girding device of the type stated in the preamble characterized in that the clamping device consists of a rotatable disc (rotor) with recesses which lies under bias against a counter plate (stator), which counter plate uncovers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one circle segment and covers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one other circle segment.
- the clamping device consists of a rotatable disc (rotor) with recesses which lies under bias against a counter plate (stator), which counter plate uncovers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one circle segment and covers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one other circle segment.
- Another advantage of this construction is that the free end of the material girded round the products will be longer, whereby there is the possibility of making a knot with one loop. By pulling on the free end directly connected to the loop the binding material knotted round the products can be removed in simple manner.
- a preferred embodiment of the girding device is characterized in that the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement in the direction of the beak during a binding cycle.
- the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement in the direction of the beak during a binding cycle.
- the cord rotates round the beak whereby extra binding material is required in the vicinity of the beak.
- the clamping device has to make a movement toward the beak.
- the means for generating an urged movement of the clamping device in the direction of the beak make the tension on the binding material independent of for instance the mass inertia of the clamping device.
- the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement directed away from the beak at the end of a binding cycle.
- the urged movement of the clamping device directed away from the beak increases the tension in the binding material and hereby simplifies severing, whereby the girding operation can be better controlled and is thus less susceptible to disturbance.
- the counter plate preferably stands under a bias directed away from the beak. This bias clamps the rotatable disc against the counter plate and is preferably adjustable. The bias clamps the free end of the binding material between the counter plate and the rotatable disc. Because the bias is adjustable the clamping force with which the free end of the binding material is clamped is also adjustable.
- the needle is preferably provided with a channel for guiding the binding material and the outer end is preferably provided with a passage opening for binding material and is manufactured from a wear-resistant material.
- a supply needle provides little uncontrollable resistance during unwinding of a reel or ball of binding material.
- the binding material is well protected from the environment whereby the danger of it becoming hooked up somewhere is small.
- the girding device comprises a feed device for binding material in which a reel of binding material is placed substantially horizontally, which feed device comprises: a guide for binding material placed axially relative to the reel and a flexible pressing member lying under bias against the binding material wound onto the reel.
- fig. 1 shows a partly cut away perspective view of a girding device
- fig. 2 is a perspective view of a cut away girding device
- fig. 3 is a perspective view of an alternatively embodied part of the device shown in fig. 1 and 2
- fig. 4-8 shows different stages in the making of a knot.
- Fig. 1 shows a girding device 1 on which lies a bunch of flowers 2 which is girded with elastic cord 3.
- the latter comes from a roll 4 of elastic cord 3 which is suspended horizontally on a frame 5.
- a guide 6 is arranged axially of roll 4 for uniform unwinding from the roll 4.
- a flexible layer 7 is arranged over roll 4 from which hangs a free weight 8.
- the flexible layer 8 prevents elastic cord running spontaneously off roll 4.
- An adjustable resistance 9 determines the resistance with which the elastic cord 3 is provided to a movable needle 10.
- the needle is provided on the upper side with a channel 11 for guiding the cord 3.
- An outer end 12 of the needle 10 is manufactured of a wear- resistant material, for instance hardened metal.
- a starter 14 Protruding from a casing 13 is a starter 14 with which the device 1 can be activated. Situated inside the casing 13 is a drive 15 with which inter alia a rotatable beak 16, a clamping device 17 and cutting means 18 are driven.
- Fig. 2 shows a part of the girding device 1 of fig. 1 in another position.
- the needle 10 is in the process of making an upward directed movement as according to arrow P after a loop 38 has been laid round a bunch of flowers 2 pressed against elastic cord 3.
- Cord 3 is herein fixed for a second time in the clamping device 17. To make the loop 38 the cord 3 was only fixed at one end portion in clamping device 17, as shown in fig. 1.
- the operation of clamping device 17 will be elucidated in the figure description of fig. 3.
- the beak 16 will subsequently make a substantially rotating movement whereby a knot, not yet arranged here, is arranged in cord 3.
- a bracket 19 for guiding the cord 3.
- the cutting means 18 are activated by a cam arranged on a rotatable wheel 20.
- a drive (not shown here) drives a shaft 22 with which a transverse shaft 24 is then driven by bevel gears 23.
- the transverse shaft 24 is connected to the rotatable wheel 20.
- the latter is provided with a toothed circle segment 25 with which the beak 16 is driven.
- the transverse shaft is connected by means of a toothed belt 26 to a clamping device shaft 27 to effect movement of clamping device 17.
- the clamping device 17 makes a movement directed toward the beak 16 during making of the knot.
- the movement of the clamping device 17 directed toward beak 16 is caused by a contour member 28 which is connected to the clamping device shaft 27 and which co-acts with a pin 29 fixed onto frame 5.
- the return movement of clamping device 17 directed away from beak 16 is caused by a spring 30.
- Fig. 3 shows an alternatively embodied clamping device shaft 31 provided with a groove 32 in which the pin 29 is received.
- the groove 32 forms a double guiding for the urged movement of clamping device 17 toward and away from beak 16.
- Clamping device 17 consists of a disc 34 which is provided with four recesses 33 and lies under bias against a counter plate 35. The bias is generated by an adjustable clamping spring 36. The bias determines the clamping force of clamping device 17.
- the movement directed toward beak 16 and away from beak 16 is performed by both the disc 34 and the counter plate 35.
- the disc 34 makes a rotating movement while the counter plate 35 does not co-rotate.
- the counter plate 35 comprises for this purpose a not clearly visible hole 42 which moves reciprocally over a pin 41 received in frame 5.
- Counter plate 35 cannot rotate as a result.
- the counter plate 35 covers the recesses 33 over a part of the circle segment.
- the cord 3 can be fixed in the clamping device 17 or a free end of cord 3 can be released.
- the receding portion 37 in counter plate 35 visible in this figure leaves the recesses 33 free to take up the cord in clamping device 17. It is also possible to provide disc 34 with more than four recesses 33.
- Fig. 4-8 show schematically the stages of making a knot 39 in cord 3.
- the counter plate 35 uncovers two recesses 33 in the disc 34 so that a loop 38 can be laid round a product and cord 3 can be fixed into the clamping device 17.
- the situation corresponds with that of fig. 2.
- the beak 16 has made a full rotation, wherein the beak 16 is opened during rotation. Additional cord 3 is now required in the vicinity of beak 16.
- the clamping device 17 has made a movement directed toward the beak 16.
- the beak 16 is closed again and in fig. 7 the knot 39 is pulled from the beak.
