Definitions

  • the invention relates to a girding device for making a knot of binding material round one or more products, comprising a supply needle for the binding material, a rotatable beak, an at least double clamping device, cutting means and drive means for driving these elements.
  • Such a girding device is used for girding for example bunches of flowers, labels and other loose objects.
  • binding material use is usually made of elastic cord but the use of string, ribbon etc. is also possible.
  • Existing girding devices gird loose objects with binding material which is unwound from a roll or ball and clamped in the clamping device at the free end. The binding material is trained round the objects and then severed at two locations. Each time a girding operation takes place a small portion of the binding material is thus cut loose which has to be disposed of as waste. These loose portions of binding material can disturb the girding process if they fall into undesired positions in the girding device.
  • Another drawback of the existing girding devices is the problem of controlling the tension on the binding material during the girding operation. Due to the incomplete control of this tension the process is limited in speed and susceptible to disturbance.
  • the present ir. 'ention has for its object to provide an improved girding device with which girding can take place in reliable manner at higher speeds than with the existing device.
  • Such an i ⁇ oroved device will fce less susceptible to disturbance and require less servicing.
  • the invention provides to this end a girding device of the type stated in the preamble characterized in that the clamping device consists of a rotatable disc (rotor) with recesses which lies under bias against a counter plate (stator), which counter plate uncovers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one circle segment and covers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one other circle segment.
  • the clamping device consists of a rotatable disc (rotor) with recesses which lies under bias against a counter plate (stator), which counter plate uncovers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one circle segment and covers the recesses in the rotatable disc over at least one other circle segment.
  • Another advantage of this construction is that the free end of the material girded round the products will be longer, whereby there is the possibility of making a knot with one loop. By pulling on the free end directly connected to the loop the binding material knotted round the products can be removed in simple manner.
  • a preferred embodiment of the girding device is characterized in that the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement in the direction of the beak during a binding cycle.
  • the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement in the direction of the beak during a binding cycle.
  • the cord rotates round the beak whereby extra binding material is required in the vicinity of the beak.
  • the clamping device has to make a movement toward the beak.
  • the means for generating an urged movement of the clamping device in the direction of the beak make the tension on the binding material independent of for instance the mass inertia of the clamping device.
  • the counter plate comprises means for making an urged movement directed away from the beak at the end of a binding cycle.
  • the urged movement of the clamping device directed away from the beak increases the tension in the binding material and hereby simplifies severing, whereby the girding operation can be better controlled and is thus less susceptible to disturbance.
  • the counter plate preferably stands under a bias directed away from the beak. This bias clamps the rotatable disc against the counter plate and is preferably adjustable. The bias clamps the free end of the binding material between the counter plate and the rotatable disc. Because the bias is adjustable the clamping force with which the free end of the binding material is clamped is also adjustable.
  • the needle is preferably provided with a channel for guiding the binding material and the outer end is preferably provided with a passage opening for binding material and is manufactured from a wear-resistant material.
