Definitions
- the invention relates to the supply of machine strips and more particularly to machines having multiple feed magazines arranged on a turret in order to allow the automatic change of the paper strip used and coming from the machine. 'one of the stores. More particularly, the tapes used are photosensitive products such as paper and the machine is a photographic printer.
- Photographic printers using chargers are well known.
- the loaders are installed manually on the machines and their weight limits the strip lengths available in such loaders. We therefore produced large capacity chargers that cannot be moved manually.
- Such loaders are described for example in WO 91/19222 and an interface similar to that described in WO 91/20016 is used between the loader and the machine.
- the photosensitive paper strip feed is obtained through loaders.
- the loaders are placed on a turret so that the magazine used as a tape feeder can be changed automatically.
- a bonding station allows the new strip to be connected to the strip already sold during use.
- the operation of these machines being controlled by a computer, it was easy to modify the intended operation to take maximum advantage of the possibilities of the machine.
- the calculator manages automatically feeding the strips so as to adapt the type or quality of the strip to the order to be carried out.
- the strip is cut during feeding, the turret is rotated so as to present another strip at the feeding station, the paper strip having the new quality is cut back, and the length of wanted band.
- This series of operations is repeated each time that the quality of the paper has to be modified in order to produce the prints ordered.
- the invention aims to provide a machine which solves the above problems without losing the advantages of use provided by the machine.
- the machine comprises: a) an entry slot for receiving a strip and directing it towards a user station; b) a feed device provided with a rotary turret capable of receiving several removable debtor magazines containing rolls of strip material; c) a means for driving towards the entry slit a strip coming from a determined debtor magazine; and d) means for interrupting the feeding of the strip in order to change the debtor magazine used.
- the interfacing device comprises a first part for connecting the external source to the part of the trajectory capable of rotating with the turret when this part of the trajectory is used , said first part being able to switch between a first position so as to provide a light-tight trajectory during use and a second position situated outside the volume delimited by the removable magazines arranged on the turret when the latter rotates.
- the interfacing device comprises means for returning the strip located in the part liable to rotate with the turret to the external source when the means is used to interrupt the supply of the strip coming from the external source.
- FIG. 1 schematically represents a machine according to the invention using a strip coming from an external source
- Fig. 2 schematically represents a machine according to the invention using a strip coming from a removable magazine arranged on a rotary turret.
- Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the satellite part of the interfacing device
- Fig. 4 shows a schematic section of the satellite part shown in FIG 3
- Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the main part of the interfacing device used in the invention
- Fig. 6 shows a sectional view of the main part shown in FIG. 5
- Figs 7 and 8 show a detail in top view and in front view of a mechanism included in the main part of the interfacing device.
- Figs 1 and 2 schematically represent the feed device 10 of a machine 11 of which only a part is sketched.
- the feeding device supplies a strip 12 to an inlet slot 13 of the machine in order to send this strip to a user station (not shown).
- the inlet slot 13 of the machine is arranged in the vicinity of a sizing station 14 making it possible to join the upstream end of the strip already cut to the downstream end of the new strip to be used .
- the bonding station 14 is provided with a shear 15 making it possible to cut the upstream and downstream ends of the strips.
- the known feeding device of the machine comprises a rotary turret 20 on which magazines 21 containing bands to be supplied to the machine are temporarily fixed.
- the various magazines 21 contain strips of different quality.
- tape quality refers to various characteristics, either chemical or physical, of the tape. In the present application, two strips having a different thickness or a different surface finish can be qualified as strips of different quality.
- the machine is a photographic printing machine and the fed strips are strips of photographic paper having a different surface finish or a different grade.
- quantities of tape of a quality determined are used much more than the quantities of strips of other quality.
- the external source can advantageously be similar to the magazine described in application WO 91/19222.
- the strip from this store is transmitted to the machine 11 via an interface 40.
- This interface can be of the type described in application WO 91/20016.
- other functionalities have been incorporated into it.
- the machine comprises an interfacing device 50 arranged so as to connect the outlet slot of the interface 40 to the inlet slot 13 of the machine.
- the interfacing device delimits a guide path 51. As can be seen in FIGS.
- the machine is equipped with a displacement member 16.
- This member moves the strip exiting either from the removable magazines 21 or from the device interfacing 50 to the bonding station 14 while retaining the light tightness.
- the path must be light-tight so as not to cloud the photosensitive paper which is moved inside the interfacing device 50.
- the interfacing device comprises at least two parts 22, 23.
- a main part 22 which is arranged so as to replace one of the removable magazines 21 and which is fixed on the turret 20 by the same so that the magazines 21.
- the main part 22 delimits a part of the guide path 51.
- the zone of the main part 22 through which the strip leaves the guide path 51 is arranged in a similar manner to the zone of the removable magazines 21 by which the tape contained in these stores is extracted from them. This arrangement makes it possible not to modify the rest of the machine.
- the interfacing device also comprises a satellite part 23.
- the satellite part 23 makes it possible to connect the exit slot of the interface 40 to the main part 22 and delimits another part of the guide path 51.
- the satellite part 23 comprises a deflection roller 24 and the main part 22 includes a deflection roller 25.
- the deflection rollers 24 and 25 are free to rotate which prevents damage the strip as it scrolls.
- the guide path therefore consists of a part that is practically immobile relative to the machine 11 and another part capable of turning with the turret 20 when it is desired to change the quality of the strip.
- the strips are photosensitive products. Under these conditions, the guide path must be isolated from light so as not to cloud the photosensitive product.
- the satellite part 23 is articulated at 60 so as to switch between a first position in which this satellite part cooperates with the main part 22 and provides a light-tight trajectory and a second - position in which it is distant from the main part so as not to interfere with the volume delimited by the magazines 21 arranged on the turret when the latter rotates to change the quality of the tape.
- This tilting is obtained by means of a jack 61 controlled by the logic (not shown) of the machine.
- the actuator 61 is implemented so as to tilt the satellite part 23 in its first position where this satellite part 23 cooperates with the main part 22 to obtain sealing against light for the guide path 51. Then the operator introduces the strip leaving the magazine 30 into the interface 40, as described in application WO 91/20016, between the drive roller 42 and its pressure roller 41. It will be noted that in the proposed interface 40, another drive roller 43 has been arranged which cooperates with another pressure roller 44 and whose function will be seen below.
- a control logic (not shown) associated with the interface 40 makes it possible to introduce the strip between the rollers 43 and 44 to bring the pressure roller 44 into contact with the drive roller 43 and then to lower the rollers 45 for forming loop which during priming had been arranged by the control logic of the interface 40 in their position shown in broken lines. Once the loops formed, the tape is fed by the drive roller 43 and the pressure roller 44 in the satellite portion 23 and to main portion 22 and finally to the entrance slit 13 of the • machine.
- the deflection roller 25 When feeding the strip from the external source 30 or external magazine, the deflection roller 25 is moved away from a advancement drum 72 as indicated below.
- a guide element 71 on which the return roller 25 is fixed makes it possible to deflect the strip of photosensitive product so as to direct it towards the entry slot 13 of the machine.
- the return roller 25 and its guide element 71 are tilted around the articulation 70 so as to pinch the strip between the idler roller and the drum 72 which will be described in more detail below and which can be rotated in one direction or in the other via pin 80 of the machine.
- the pressure roller 44 is moved away from the drive roller 43 and a clutch (not shown) releases the roller 43 which becomes free to rotate and only serves as a return roller.
- the strip leaving the main part can be taken over by the movement member 16 of the machine.
- the machine can cut the strip to produce successive draws. If the operator wishes to change the quality of the strip and use a strip contained in one of the removable loaders 21, the machine interrupts the supply of the strip coming from the external source 30 and by means of the shears 15 cuts said strip .
- the drive roller 43 and the pressure roller 44 are brought back into contact with one another the deflection roller 25 and its guide element 71 are again distant from the drum 72 and the control logic of the interface and of the machine controls the reverse rotation of the drive roller 43 which has the effect of moving the rollers 45 downwards and bringing the downstream end of the strip of paper which has just been cut towards the interface 40 .
- the backward movement of the paper strip is only interrupted when there is no paper strip in the area main 22, that is to say when the downstream end of the strip is situated between cells 112 and 113.
- the jack 61 is implemented so as to tilt the satellite part 23 in its second position, position in which it does not interfere with the volume delimited by the chargers 21 disposed on the turret 20 when the latter is rotated.
- the operator can then arrange that of the magazines 21 chosen in the working position as shown in FIG. 2.
- the movement member 16 of the machine is then implemented and takes charge of the strip coming from this magazine 21 to bring it to the bonding station 14 where the downstream end is connected to the upstream end of the previously debited tape.
- the stitching station is not essential if the machine has been designed differently, for example to take care of individual pieces corresponding to the format of the final images.
- the machine interrupts the progression of the tape coming from a magazine 21, cuts this tape which is partially turned inside the magazine 21 by means of the 'displacement member 16 which then rotates in reverse.
- the main part 22 of the interfacing device 50 is then placed in the working position as shown in FIG. 1, then the actuator 61 is excited so as to tilt the satellite part 23 in its first position and the strip contained in this satellite part 23 is returned, as described above, to the main part 22 and to the slot d input 13 of the machine where this strip is again supported by the displacement member 16 of the machine 11. It is obvious that during this feeding the rollers 45 have returned to their previous position, intermediate position in which the function which they provide is that described in application WO 91/20016.
- the satellite part 23 consists mainly of two plates 101, 102 connected together so as to define a part of the guide path 51.
- the upstream part 106 of the satellite part 23 extends beyond the casing of the machine 11 and enters through the outlet slot of the interface 40 into the interior of this interface.
- this upstream part 106 has a flared shape so as to facilitate the introduction of the strip of paper into said satellite part 23.
- the satellite part 23 is provided at its downstream end 109 with a rounded wall serving to deflect the paper strip when the latter is moved by the rollers 43, 44 during the feeding of the paper strip.
- this end 109 is provided with a deflection roller.
- this end 109 is also provided with a nozzle 110 whose external walls are inclined and which has a thinned lip 111 used to establish 1 • light tightness when the satellite part 23 and the main part 22 cooperate.
- the main part consists of a light-tight chassis formed by two side plates 120, 121 secured to one another on the one hand by rods 122, 123 which, as seen in FIG. 6 are provided with longitudinal grooves and on the other hand by a support 124, an upper part 125 and a housing 126.
- the support 124, the upper part 125 and the housing 126 are also provided with grooves.
- the grooves are designed so as to receive front panels 131, 132 and rear 133 and upper panels 134 and lower 135.
- the panels also penetrate into grooves made in the side plates 120 and 121. This type of mounting makes it possible to ensure light tightness while avoiding welding. It is obvious that any other type of fixing ensuring the light-tightness can be used.
- the main part is produced so as to occupy the space left vacant when one of the removable magazines 21 is removed, which is usually fixed on the turret 20.
- the magazine fixing system removable is used to fix the main part 22.
- the support 124 is provided with an extension 140 which cooperates with the shaft 141 of the turret 20 in the same way as certain parts removable magazines cooperate with this shaft 141.
- the main part 22 is provided with a hollow shaft 150 which surrounds one of the driving spindles 80, 81, 82 of the machine. It is therefore easy to thread the magazines 21 or the main part 22 onto the pins, rotation being prevented by the cooperation of the extension 140 with the shaft of the turret.
- the main part is always associated with the same machine shaft.
- a keying device which can take the form of a pin (not shown) cooperating with a corresponding hole (not shown) made in the turret 20.
- the upper part 125 is surmounted by a matrix 144, the shape of which is designed to cooperate with the end piece 110 and ensure light tightness.
- the matrix 144 has a groove 145 surrounding the slot through which the strip passes and that this groove is arranged so as to receive the lip 111 of the end piece 110. In this way it is delimited between the satellite part 23 and the part main 22 a V-shaped junction through which light cannot pass.
- the main part comprises a drum 72 connected to the shaft 150 by a toothed belt 151 so as to be able to be driven in rotation by the control unit of the machine.
- the upper part of the drum 72 is practically at the same level as the bottom of the housing 126.
- a bent arm is articulated by one of its ends at 70 and supports at its other end the deflection roller 25.
- the bent arm carries a guide 71 delimiting by means of two walls 73 the guide path 51.
- the end of the wall located in the vicinity of the idler roller 25 outside of the latter is slightly bent (Fig. 6) .
- the bent arm is biased by a spring 75 so as to move the deflection roller 25 away from the drum 72. In this position the bent arm assumes a position shown in broken lines in FIG. 6 in which the bent arm is practically in abutment against the upper part 125.
- the guide delimited by the walls 73 therefore coincides with the opening of the die 144.
- the guide 71 has at its lower part a slightly curved area so as to bend the strip, and to make it penetrate into the housing 126 where it slides on the bottom of this box then leaves this box through an opening 127.
- the bottom of the housing 126 extends sufficiently towards the drum 72 so that the strip of photosensitive paper does not get caught between the drum 72 and the bottom of the housing 126.
- the bent arm is tilted by means of a jack which moves a lever 151 articulated at 70.
- the tilting of this lever 151 moves the bent arm so as to urge the roller return 25 to the drum 72.
- the force exerted by the jack is sufficient to overcome the force exerted by the spring 75 and apply the strip to the drum 72 so that any movement of the drum drives the strip.
- the pressure roller 44 of the interface 40 is raised and a clutch (not shown) releases the connection between a motor and the drive roller 43 which is therefore transformed into a return roller.
- the interface 40 now operates as described in WO 91/20016.
- the interfacing device 50 can receive like the machine strips of various widths.
- the housing 126 is provided with two additional lateral guides 160 which can be moved by means of a control lever. 161 extending beyond one of the walls of the housing.
- the lateral guides 160 have an "L" shape so as to limit the lateral and vertical movements of the strip.
- the lever 161 is guided on the one hand by the opening in the wall of the housing allowing its passage and on the other hand part by a flange secured to the bottom of the housing.
- the lever 161 has several positioning grooves 163 which cooperate with a spring ball 164.
- the guides 160 are brought closer to each other by rotation around respective axes offset.
- one of the edges of the strip has a fixed lateral position and serves as a reference.
- the axis 165 serving to articulate the guide 160 is therefore fixed relative to the housing.
- the axis 166 serving as an articulation to the other lateral guide 160 is integral with the control lever 161.
- the temporary approximation of the ends of the lateral guides 160 towards one another at the time of priming is obtained by 1 ' intermediate pins 167 which are integral with the guides 160 and which penetrate into a groove 168 which can be moved.
- the groove 168 is part of a slide assembly 169 provided with a rack engaging a gear 170.
- the gear 170 is driven by another rack 171 carried by a slide 172 urged to rest by a compression spring 173 ".
- the lateral guides 160 assume a position in which their respective downstream end is distant from each other, by the action of the compression spring 173.
- the distance between the downstream ends of the two lateral guides 160 is approximately 3 mm greater than the width of the strip when these ends are brought together.
- the bent arm When the interfacing device 50 is in operation, the bent arm is in the position shown in solid lines in FIG. 6 and does not press on the slide 172.
- the compression spring then makes it possible to separate the downstream ends of the guides 160 from each other and the distance is greater than the width of the strip by about 20 mm.
- the tension spring 75 causes it to tilt and it comes into contact with the slide 172 to move it and thus form a guide corridor of smaller width.
